Jennifer Aniston: ‘I’m just a very fortunate and blessed human being’

jennifer aniston people cover

-The Morning Show promo tour is in full swing, with Jennifer Aniston covering the latest issue of People. “I’m in a really peaceful place. I have a job that I love, I have people in my life who are everything to me, and I have beautiful dogs.”

Aniston also did an interview with Howard Stern, during which she squashed the rumors of tensions between her and Brad Pitt (“Brad and I are buddies; we’re friends”), and insisted nothing romantic ever happened between her and David Schwimmer (“I would proudly say I banged Schwimmer if that happened. But no”).

-Sources tell People that Britney Spears was “very nervous about speaking in front of the judge” yesterday but insisted on doing it because “this is her life and she wants big changes.” Audio of her testimony was posted on Youtube, and despite stammering a bit and talking really fast, she sounded articulate and in control.

-Meanwhile, despite his immense contribution to how she’s been treated, Justin Timberlake tweeted: “Jess and I send our love, and our absolute support to Britney during this time. We hope the courts, and her family make this right and let her live however she wants to live.” Perez Hilton also tried to get in on the action with some empathetic tweets. Look, as someone who has a messy past with celebrity coverage, I get that we’re all reckoning with our role in all of this. Or we’re supposed to be. But these two seemingly having zero self-awareness, instead pretending they didn’t have a hand in what’s happened to her.

-You thought Gigi Hadid’s pasta cabinets were bad? Cara Delevingne opened the doors of her new LA home and showed off her vagina tunnel, ball pit, hat room, Playboy arcade game, David Bowie shrine and the razor scooter she zips around on so the hard floors don’t hurt her feet. “Hugh Hefner is a big inspiration in this house.” I can’t stop watching this video.

-I love this story about a little boy who was sent to the principal because the kept insisting “Superman is my uncle” — and then his uncle Henry Cavill came to pick him up.

-So it sounds like that Deux Moi blind from a couple of weeks ago might have been onto something– according to THR, John Boyega walked off the set of Netflix’s Rebel Ridge mid-shoot due to issues such as the script and his accommodations. Filmmakers reportedly discovered he left when they went to his hotel and found he had checked out. (His agent denies this and says he left due to family issues.) This is so tough because, if true, it’s such a bad look. But Hollywood has a long history of blacklisting black actors with an undeserved “difficult” label, so it’s hard to just accept this story at face value.

Shia LaBeouf and his ex-wife Mia Goth were spotted arm-in-arm at Disneyland.

Sharon Stone was not impressed when she asked what it was like to work with Meryl Streep: “You didn’t say, ‘Meryl finally got to work with Sharon Stone.’ Or we finally got to work together…Viola Davis is every bit the actress Meryl Streep is. Emma Thompson. Judy Davis. Olivia Colman. Kate Winslet, for f**k’s sake. But you say Meryl and everybody falls on the floor.”

-Even Rihanna can’t convince me that fuzzy bucket hats should be back in style. Unless your name is Cher Horowitz, I don’t approve.

-The Good Fight’s season five premiere takes a wild stab at recapping 2020. (It premieres today on CBS All Access, and July 1 here in Canada on the W Network).

-Blink-182 frontman Mark Hoppus revealed he has been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy.

-Here a good read on why Kenya Barris‘s Netflix deal (the biggest overall deal in comedy) unraveled.

-Mumford and Sons lead guitarist and banjoist Winston Marshall recently came under scrutiny for his support of a right-wing provocateur. Now, he’s leaving the band so he can “speak freely” about the “evils of political extremism.” Buh-bye!

Vin Diesel said he feuded with The Rock to push his acting “where it needed to be,” saying “We had to get there and sometimes, at that time, I could give a lot of tough love. Not Felliniesque, but I would do anything I’d have to do in order to get performances in anything I’m producing.” I don’t know what’s funnier: that Vin Diesel thinks he’s qualified to give acting advise, or that he cited Fellini.

James McAvoy and Sharon Horgan star as a couple forced to re-evaluate their relationship in lockdown in BBC’s Together. I wanna watch this so badly!

-Netflix puts a new spin on the Old West in the trailer for The Harder They Fall — with a stacked cast that includes Regina King, Jonathan Majors, Idris Elba, Zazie Beetz, LaKeith Stanfield, and Delroy Lindo.

Elliot Page Covers Time

-In Times’ excellent new cover story, Elliot Page talks about the reaction to coming out as trans (“What I was anticipating was a lot of support and love and a massive amount of hatred and transphobia. That’s essentially what happened”), how the pandemic helped him go public (“I had a lot of time on my own to really focus on things that I think, in so many ways, unconsciously, I was avoiding”), and why he chose the name Elliot (“I loved E.T. when I was a kid and always wanted to look like the boys in the movies, right?”).

-The Talk has extended its hiatus as more allegations are being leveled against Sharon Osbourne — like journalist Yashar Ali‘s Substack detailing claims of racist language on set — including allegations that she frequently referred to cohost Julie Chen as ‘wonton’ and ‘slanty eyes,’ which original panelist Leah Remini confirmed to him.

Gayle King says she spoke to Prince Harry this week, and he told her that he finally spoke to William and Charles but it was “not a productive” talk. He also said no one in the family has spoken to Meghan since the interview.

A-Rod flew to the Dominican Republic, where Jennifer Lopez is currently shooting a movie.

-Did Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom get married, or do they just like shiny things?

Keanu Reeves and Alexandra Grant: still together, still adorable.

-Are we going to get to see the full episode of James McAvoy on Great British Bakeoff, because this 3-minute clip was not nearly enough.

Maya Rudolph is hosting SNL on March 27, while Daniel Kaluuya and Carey Mulligan are on tap in April.

-Photos from the set of House of Gucci continue to be a trip. Here’s what Jared Leto looks like in it.

-The Hollywood Foreign Press Association reportedly denied requests to hold press conferences for major projects with Black-led casts in recent years, including Bridgerton, Girls Trip and Queen & Slim. Not surprisingly, none of those projects were nominated for Golden Globes.

Rian Johnson‘s first TV series will be a mystery show starring Natasha Lyonne.

-Here’s the trailer for Ed Helms’ new Peacock comedy Rutherford Falls.

Idris Elba stars in the trailer for Netflix’s Concrete Cowboy, which I saw a few months ago and think I liked but have completely forgotten it.

The Weeknd Talks Grammy Snub

the weeknd billboard

The Weeknd is still all up in his feels about his Grammy snub. Calling it “an attack,” he tells Billboard: “I use a sucker punch as an analogy. Because it just kind of hit me out of nowhere. I definitely felt … I felt things. I don’t know if it was sadness or anger. I think it was just confusion. I just wanted answers. Like, ‘What happened?'” He added that the three previous Grammy Awards he’s won “mean nothing” to him now.

Taylor Swift fans are feeling a little duped today: a rumour of new music turned out to be re-packaged previous releases.

Armie Hammer has exited the upcoming TV series The Offer, which tells the behind the scenes story of the making of The Godfather. This was a really buzzy project — one wonders if he’s just laying low because of what’s already being talked about, or if he’s bracing for more.

-Wow. Call Me By Your Name’s Luca Guadagnino and Timothée Chalamet are eyeing a reunion for the coming-of-age horror story Bones & All, which is — wait for it — a cannibal love story. I’m not joking.

-The latest installment of Variety’s Actors on Actors features Riz Ahmed and Steven Yeun, who discuss language and what it was like expressing themselves in American Sign Language and Korean, respectively, in their most recent films.

-I don’t watch Snowpiercer, but this interview with Daveed Diggs is a delight!

Miley Cyrus did a NPR Tiny Desk concert and covered Mazzy Star’s “Fade Into You.” It’s a bit hard, but I’ll allow it.

Wendy Williams says she hired a P.I. to follow her husband when they were together and he discovered a mistress. “The P.I. followed her to her GYN appointments. The P.I. ended up finding out that the girl was pregnant.”

-I don’t watch RHOC, but Rick Leventhal‘s daughter seems to be reading her new stepmother for filth on social media.

Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson‘s new Malibu estate looks less palatial than I was expecting.

Daisy Ridley and James McAvoy are among the stars appearing for charity in Celebrity Bake Off, but McAvoy has clearly already won in every way that counts.

Joshua Bassett released a new video, but posted on Instagram “hiiii, i wrote this song half a year ago, and this release has been scheduled for months!” — just in case you thought he was trying to wade in on the Olivia Rodrigo vs Sabrina Carpenter diss track drama.

Zendaya is defending the 12-year age gap between her and her Malcolm & Marie costar John David Washington: “People often forget — which is understandable because I’ve been playing 16 since I was 16, you know — [but] I am grown. I knew that, as I grow and as I evolve, there would be that moment where I could play someone my own age.”

Zendaya also let it slip that her Spider-Man 3 character will be “running from aliens.” Sigh. How has MCU not yet grasped that the beauty of the Spider-Man movies is that they’re about a high school kid dealing with neighborhood baddies. The smaller stakes is why Homecoming was so great.

-This is a very good piece on how the MCU has conditioned its audience not to accept change. There’s a great show to be had in WandaVision if the whole thing is a construct she’s created to cope with her grief, but I’d be surprised if it goes that way. And we barely got three episodes of “what the heck is going on?” weirdness before they’re feeling the need to shift into explaining.

Trevor Noah explained the GameStop stock drama as if he were a bubbly Margot Robbie in The Big Short.

-Netflix confirmed that Lupin’s remaining 5 episodes will debut this summer.

This is a good piece on how when it comes to onscreen diversity, quality is just as important as quantity.

Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo play BFFs in the trailer for Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar.
