Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas Welcome Baby Girl

-TMZ is reporting (complete with hilariously bad photoshopped artwork) that Sophie Turner gave birth to a daughter last Wednesday at a hospital in Los Angeles. She and Joe Jonas reportedly named the little one Willa.

-If the new plan for Tenet actually goes ahead, it’s going to be so, so dumb. Instead of just pushing movie to next year, it will now open first overseas on Aug. 26 in over 70 countries, (including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Russia, Spain and the UK), followed by select U.S. cities on Sept. 3 — even though so few cities in the U.S. should be encouraging people to hang out inside for hours with strangers. But if it drops in other countries, I can’t imagine Warner Bros postponing their U.S. plans and letting people go crazy on torrents, no matter how dangerous theatres still are.

-According to a new book, Prince William ‘wanted to make sure Harry wasn’t blindsided by lust‘ when it came to Meghan Markle. That’s pretty rich, coming from William (if rumours are to be believed).  Also, I’m sure that didn’t come up when Harry was dating Chelsy Davy or Cressida Bonas.

-Speaking of Cressida, she just got married.

–Justin and Hailey Bieber are currently on a cross-country U.S. roadtrip (which sounds like the last thing I’d want to do these days), and they made a pit stop to visit Kanye West at the rapper’s Wyoming ranch.

-Shortly after Justin’s visit, Kanye tweeted “I would like to apologize to my wife Kim for going public with something that was a private matter.” He also posted the cover art for his delayed new album.

-The Daily Beast spoke to former teachers and administrators at Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s New Village Leadership Academy, who say that it was really a Scientology school for kids.

-Speaking of the Daily Beast’s coverage of Scientology, they talked to Leah Remini, who says of Tom Cruise: “This is a man who has not even seen his own daughter in years. That this guy can be running around and having people think he’s this super-nice guy, I don’t get it. But that’s the Hollywood bulls**t game people play.”

-WarnerMedia is investigating the Ellen Degeneres Show’s workplace after that damning Buzzfeed article.

–Megan Thee Stallion talked about being shot in both feet in a tearful IG live: “It was just the worst experience of my life and it’s not funny, it’s nothing to joke about and nothing for y’all to go and be making fake stories about. I didn’t put my hands on nobody I didn’t deserve to get shot.”

–Peter Shinkoda (who played Nobu in Daredevil) says Jeph Loeb, who was then the head of Marvel TV, told the writers not to develop Asian characters and drop a major storyline for his character. “Jeph Loeb told the writer’s room not to write for Nobu and Gao. This was reiterated many times by many of the writers and showrunners that ‘Nobody cares about Chinese people and Asian people. There was three previous Marvel movies—a trilogy called Blade—where Wesley Snipes kills 200 Asians each movie; nobody gives a shit, so don’t write about Nobu and Gao,’ and they were forced to put their storyline down and drop it. -He also tweeted that he and his costar (also Asian) were not invited to the Season 2 premiere.

-Netflix has announced The Witcher: Blood Origins; a spin-off series set 1200 years before the story of Geralt of Rivia.

-After 37 years on Days of Our Lives, Kristian Alfonso (who plays Hope) is saying goodbye — and seems quite happy to be rid of it. “In the last few years, Days of Our Lives is not the Days of Our Lives as I know it.”

–Seth Green looks back at his biggest roles in this 9-minute video, of which I watched every second.

-Pitchfork gave Taylor Swift‘s new album an 8/10, which is INCREDIBLY generous compared to how their ratings usually go. And some of her craziest fans have spent the day harassing and doxxing the reviewer.  My god.

-A few people I follow on Insta were sharing video of the drive-in concert Third Eye Blind did this weekend, and it seemed so cool. Social distancing and masks seemed enforced, and people listened through their car stereos. But then video of a Chainsmokers “drive in” concert that happened in the Hamptons surfaced and I’m back to being scared of everyone.

-Freeform seems to be first out of the gate with a show that revolves around covid. Here’s the trailer for Love In the Time Of Corona, a four episode romcom that was shot using remote technologies from in the cast’s actual homes.

-The Kissing Booth 2 just dropped this weekend, but it turns out the third movie has already been shot and is coming next year. There’s already a new clip too.

-The entire cast of Scott Pilgrim vs the World reunited for a Zoom table read.

More Avengers Assemble for Bridger

–Robert Downey Jr. sent a message to Bridger, the little boy who saved his sister in a dog attack, promising him a surprise on his next birthday.

–Tom Holland did a Facetime call with him and invited him to the set of the next Spider-Man movie.

–Ellen DeGeneres just took another hit. In a new article, current and former employees tell Buzzfeed they faced racism, fear, and intimidation.

-The show’s producers released a statement saying they’re taking the allegations “very seriously” and adding “We are truly heartbroken and sorry to learn that even one person in our production family has had a negative experience. It’s not who we are and not who we strive to be, and not the mission Ellen has set for us.”

–Princess Beatrice married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in a private ceremony on Friday morning, Buckingham Palace confirmed. It’s believed that around 20 people attended the scaled-down event including The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and Prince Andrew.

–Megan Thee Stallion posted on Instagram that she wanted to “set the record straight” and revealed that she “suffered gunshot wounds, as a result of a crime that was committed against me and done with the intention to physically harm me.” New reports allege that the crime against her was committed by Canadian rapper Lanez, from Brampton, Ont. TMZ reports that Lanez opened fire in their chauffeur-driven SUV and shot Megan in the foot twice after an argument broke out in the vehicle and the rapper and her friend, Kelsey Nicole, said they wanted to get out of the vehicle.

–Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans are teaming up for a new Netflix thriller directed by the Russo Brothers.

-In a new interview, August Alsina clears up lingering questions about his “entanglement” with Jada Pinkett Smith and how it figures into his path to wellness.

-This interview with Helen Hunt on Twister is great, but at the very end with the interviewer is about to ask her a question about Jodie Foster and accidentally calls her “Jodie”? I felt that.

-Fox released a Bob’s Burgers short of how the Belchers might react during quarantine — and it’s geoblocked. Yeah, that feels about right these days.

-Quarantine isn’t hurting all businesses: Netflix announced a blowout quarter: it added 10.09 million subscribers during its second quarter, boosting its global base to nearly 193 million.

-Netflix also put out calls for Canadian TV and film pitches, likely because production has started to open back up here.

–Will Arnett, Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes are turning their decades-long friendship into podcast called Smartless.

-Briarpatch has been cancelled after only one season. I’m bummed for Andy Greenwald.

–Rosamund Pike plays Marie Curie in the Radioactive trailer.

Chris Evans Sends Captain American Shield To Young Hero

–Chris Evans sent an incredibly sweet video message to Bridger, the little boy who protected his sister from a dog attack. Anne Hathaway, Mark Ruffalo, Winston Duke and other stars have also shouted him out.

-This 5-minute video of Henry Cavill building a computer from scratch is simultaneously hot and relaxing.

-The Bold Type’s Aisha Dee, who plays Kat, posted about her frustration over the lack of diversity behind the scenes of the show. She also echoed many fans’ disappointment for her character’s bizarre new relationship with a rich conservative woman, saying that it felt “felt confusing and out of character.” She added, “It was heartbreaking to watch Kat’s story turn into a redemption story for someone else, someone who is complicit in the oppression of so many. Someone whose politics are actively harmful to her communities.” The season finale airs tonight, ending an abbreviated season after production was shut down due to covid.

–Prince Andrew’s website has been removed.

-With Britney Spears‘ conservatorship nearing its August 22 deadline, #FreeBritney is trending again. Anyone who follows gossip has known for years how messed up her situation is, but now it seems to finally be hitting mainstream consciousness, with multiple sites posting backgrounders this week.

-It’s also in the news because her mother Lynne Spears has filed a legal request to be more in the know about “all matters” surrounding Britney’s finances and trust.

–Cory Monteith‘s mom talked about his friendship with Naya Rivera in an emotional Instagram post.

–Cardi B is defending Offset’s present to their two-year-old daughter: a $20k Birken bag.

-In Johnny Depp‘s libel case, the court heard a witness statement provided by Winona Ryder: “I understand that it is very important that I speak from my own experience, as I obviously was not there during his marriage to Amber, but, from my experience, which was so wildly different, I was absolutely shocked, confused and upset when I heard the accusations against him. The idea that he is an incredibly violent person is the farthest thing from the Johnny I knew and loved. I cannot wrap my head around these accusations. He was never, never violent towards me. He was never, never abusive at all towards me. He has never been violent or abusive towards anybody I have seen.” Vanessa Paradis‘ statement was also read, in which she said: “This is nothing like the true Johnny I have known, and from my personal experience of many years, I can say he was never violent or abusive to me.”

–Amanda Peet and Sarah Paulson did a wonderfully chaotic IG Live for Instyle. (This short clip perfectly sums up the energy.) They call each other “Bird” and have been friends since Jack & Jill, a terrible show I used to love.

–Chrissy Teigen has chain blocked more than a million Twitter users in attempt to weed out the “sick psychopaths” obsessed with the idea that she was linked to sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein, a dumb conspiracy theory based on a very fake flight manifesto.

-A source tells People that Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith‘s marital problems were exacerbated by their fame, and during their separation four years ago he felt “more of the pressure” to make their marriage work.

-Barely 24 hours after NBC’s new streaming service Peacock launched, some movies are already being removed. So strange, especially since one of the movies is Shrek, which was a major part of their marketing.
