-Here’s our first look at Gillian Anderson as Eleanor Roosevelt, Michelle Pfeiffer as Betty Ford, and Viola Davis as Michelle Obama in Showtime’s The First Lady.

-The Houston police has declared Travis Scott‘s Astroworld festival a “mass casualty event” after 8 people died and hundreds were injured (including a 9-year-old) after the crowd surged forward during his headlining set and security did not stop the show for 40 minutes. Videos of the audience trying to alert the crew and being ignored are heartbreaking.

–Scott has cancelled his upcoming festival appearances as the lawsuits begin to pour in. Drake, who made a guest appearance at the festival, has also been named in one suit.

–Emily Ratajkowski talked about her new book with the Sunday Times, saying that the exploitation of young women is still common in modeling (“I was not at all shocked by [the Jeffrey Epstein] story. I witnessed so much of that in different forms”), revealed that her teenage boyfriend ‘forced himself’ on her when she was 14 (“So many young women I know, their first early sexual experiences border on nonconsensual”), and said modeling gave her a complex relationship with her body (“There is this sense of your body is not yours, it’s ours. In this contract you’ve given it up to be used how we see fit… If you’re not willing to do what the client wants you to do with your body, then there’s somebody else who will be”).

–Bennifer packed on the pre-flight PDA this weekend.

-According to Page Six, Chris Evans will be this year’s Sexiest Man Alive. I like him a lot but the only interesting thing about this whole thing is that People got scooped.

–Lee Pace shared some thirsty pics and that’s just what I needed to save this Monday.

–Vin Diesel held an olive branch out to Dwayne Johnson via an Instagram post, inviting him back to the Fast and Furious franchise.

–Kanye West (no, I’m not calling him Ye) was spotted at a basketball game with model Vinetria.

–Scott Speedman revealed on Instagram that he’s a new dad.

-After Aaron Rodgers hit nearly every anti-v*xxer talking point in an interview, his fiancée Shailene Woodley is insisting her cryptic posts are not referencing it.

–Emilio Estevez is pushing back on a report that he’s not doing season two of Mighty Ducks because he refuses to follow the show’s vaccine mandate. He blames his departure on “contract disputes” and “creative differences” and says he contracted covid in March 2020 and suffers from long haul symptoms. Interestingly, his statement doesn’t say anything about him being vaccinated.

-Production on Black Panther 2 has halted due to Letitia Wright‘s experiencing an “onset injury.”

-In an open letter, George Clooney asked the media to stop publishing photos of his kids. I can’t recall ever seeing any, but I rarely follow the British press.

-A Kelly Clarkson holiday special is coming to NBC next month.

–Isaiah Washington tweeted about how he’d be happy to return to Grey’s and play the lead, as long as Ellen Pompeo was “finally gone”. This is unhinged.

-This is such a great profile on Simon Rex and the highs and lows of celebrity. He partied his way through the early aughts, lost his career for a decade, and is now being lauded by critics for his role in festival darling Red Rocket.

–Will Smith reportedly gave the best wrap gift ever to his King Richard costars: cold, hard cash.

-I saw Eternals this weekend and while it wasn’t my fave Marvel movie, it certainly wasn’t as bad as Iron Man 2 or some of the Thor or Hulk movies, despite getting worse reviews. This is a good piece on how Chloé Zhao may be being punished for playing the Marvel good soldier.

-After Eternals got banned in Saudi Arabia and more due to its openly gay superhero, Angelina Jolie responded: “I’m proud of Marvel for refusing to cut [gay] scenes out…How anybody is angry about it, threatened by it, doesn’t approve or appreciate it is ignorant.”

-Speaking of Eternals, I really liked Chloé Zhao’s answer about Kumail Nanjiani‘s character’s decision, which I don’t think I’ve ever seen in a superhero film before. (I did not, however, agree with her answer about referencing a real-life tragedy in the film.)

–Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell‘s new Apple show Shrink Next Door is getting good reviews.

–Ben Gibbard talked about the legacy of Death Cab for Cutie’s The Photo Album, which is 20 years old. He says his favorite use of a Death Cab song on TV was The OC, which of course it is.

–Benedict Cumberbatch goes west in the trailer for Netflix’s The Power of the Dog, Jane Campion‘s latest which is getting serious Oscar buzz.

George Clooney Gushes About Married Life

-In his new GQ profile, George Clooney talks about how Amal has changed his life. “I was like, ‘I’m never getting married. I’m not gonna have kids. I’m gonna work, I’ve got great friends, my life is full, I’m doing well.’ And I didn’t know how un-full it was until I met Amal.” He also talks about a brutal motorcycle accident he had when shooting Catch-22 (“When I hit the ground my mouth—I thought all my teeth were broken out. But it was glass from the windshield”), and why he prefers to watch others get into online fights (“I have much more fun watching Chrissy Teigen. Somebody steps into her world and you go, ‘Oh, I wouldn’t do that, dude.’ It’s so much fun. Like somebody who thinks they’re really smart, and you just go, ‘Ugh, dude. You brought a knife to a gunfight.'”)

–Isaiah Washington is once again calling out Katherine Heigl over the Grey’s Anatomy drama that led to his 2007 firing.  I mean, she stood up for a costar when Washington used a homophobic slur so I don’t understand why he keeps reminding us of it.

–Lil Wayne has been charged with weapons possession in a South Florida federal court, and faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

–Scooter Braun has sold the master rights to Taylor Swift’s first six albums. The buyer, an investment fund, apparently paid north of $300 million.

-Meanwhile Swift, who is free to re-record songs from her first five Big Machine-issued albums as of this month, hit back at Braun, saying that she didn’t get a chance to buy back her masters unless she signed an NDA.

-We’re still waiting on the People’s Sexiest Man Alive, but we know that Dan Levy is on the list.

–Zack Snyder has unveiled a new black and white trailer for his director’s cut of Justice League, and it still holds zero interest for me, but if you’re looking for a a never-before-seen shot of Darkseid, knock yourself out.

–Richard Schiff, who played Toby on The West Wing, has been hospitalized after testing positive for COVID-19.

–Dolly Parton helped fund Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine, which this week became the second coronavirus vaccine with a stunningly high success rate.

–Justin Bieber announced what we’d already guessed: he’s doing a collab with Shawn Mendes.

–Rachel Bloom details the whirlwind journey her show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend had to television in this audio excerpt from her new book.

–David E. Kelley‘s new ABC drama Big Sky, starring Ryan Phillippe, is getting brutal reviews. Says THR: “If a pilot is exploitative garbage, but knows it’s exploitative garbage, does that make it less exploitative?”

-Watch the trailer for Vanessa Kirby and Shia LaBeouf‘s emotional drama Pieces Of A Woman, which is coming to Netflix. Saw this one at TIFF a few months ago and it’s good but crushing.

Rihanna Contemplates Marriage and Motherhood

–Rihanna discussed marriage and love in a candid new chat with her Ocean’s 8 co-star Sarah Paulson for Interview magazine. She talked about carving time out of her schedule for boyfriend of two years Hassan Jameel (“I got into a new relationship, and it matters to me. It was like, ‘I need to make time for this.’ Just like I nurture my businesses, I need to nurture this as well. I’ll shut things down for two days, three days at a time. On my calendar we now have the infamous ‘P,’ which means personal days. This is a new thing”), and said she wants to be a mother “More than anything in life.” (My fave part about the interview is when Paulson starts serenading her and Rihanna says “I’m going to tell you this because I’m a black girl: You’re going to have to stay on beat, okay?”)

-Vanity Fair wrote an article speculating who Ellen Pompeo may have been referring to when she talked about “toxic behavior” on the set of Grey’s Anatomy for the first 10 seasons — and Isaiah Washington read it and snapped. He tweeted “Vanity Fair needs to keep my name out of this. You gone be dirty? Why don’t you ask Ellen Pompeo how she was paid ‘hush money’ to protect Patrick Dempsey and HIS ‘toxic behavior’.” 👀

–Kylie Jenner threw a Handmaid’s Tale-themed party. No, girl.

–Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger are officially married. They shared identical posts about it on Instagram (each with a line about how they’re “grateful to Mr. Giorgio Armani” for outfitting them which is…uh…something. Did their sponcon agreement specific a sentence or do they just not know how to tag?)

-Fans are baffled after Justin Bieber challenged Tom Cruise to a UFC fight.

-I’m very ok with The Good Place announcing that season four will be its last.

–Cuba Gooding Jr. has been accused of grabbing a women’s breasts in a NYC club and could potentially be arrested.

-This is horrible: A year after Pauley Perrette exited NCIS following 15 seasons on the show, she took to Twitter to beg fans to stop asking her to return — because she says she’s afraid of being in the presence of lead actor Mark Harmon. She posted “I am terrified of Harmon and him attacking me. I have nightmares about it. I have a new show that is SAFE AND HAPPY!” and then a separate tweet of two graphic photos of an NCIS crew member with stitches around his eyes.

-I love that The Other Two and Barry are on this list of the best TV so far in 2019. I’d add Better Things, too.

-This video compilation of Gwyneth Paltrow being clueless about what’s going on in the MCU movies she stars in is great. Just cash those Marvel checks, girl.

–Kiefer Sutherland calling out our ridiculous premier on Twitter is a good time.

-I gave up on The 100 after season 2 but a lot of my Twitter mutuals still watch it and ship Bellarke (which seems really hard because I don’t think they’ve progressed past a hug in the last five seasons). So it was nice to see their total bliss meltdown when the actors — who no one even knew were dating — announced that they eloped last month.

–Celine Dion stopping her set until a guy came back from the bathroom so he wouldn’t miss anything is very on brand and wonderful.

-This is a good breakdown of what happened to X-Men’s Dark Phoenix, which bombed at the weekend box office and could lose $100M. Insiders told The Hollywood Reporter that after the disaster that was Apocalypse, execs came away thinking that the movie’s failure had been due to an excessive amount of explosions and scale, not due to franchise fatigue generally. “We were wrong.” Then the release date was moved to June to placate James Cameron, Fox’s most important filmmaker, so not to conflict with Alita: Battle Angel. And Dark Phoenix’s muddled marketing campaign didn’t help. “When definite awareness of Rocketman is higher than an X-Men movie, you know you’re in strange territory.”

–Laura Linney and Audra McDonald had some funny “beef” at last night’s Tonys.

–DJ Khaled‘s energy drink bundles might have cost him a #1 album, and now he’s reportedly planning to sue Billboard over it.

-I’m taking a break from non-Legends of Tomorrow CW superhero shows, but here’s the first full trailer for Batwoman.

-The footage of Keanu Reeves recording his part for Toy Story 4 went viral this weekend (deservedly) thanks to a Chris Evens boost.

-Cyberpunk 2077 comes out next year – but Keanu showed up at E3 yesterday to promote his involvement and debut the first trailer.
