Charlize Theron Says Being Unmarried Is “Innately My Truth”

Charlize Theron Glamour Magazine’s 2019 Women Of The Year

Charlize Theron is already getting raves for her turn in Bombshell and the promo tour hasn’t even fully kicked off yet. She’s in Glamour’s 2019 Women of the Year issue, in which she talks about her single status (“I haven’t been in a relationship for a very long time. I never wanted to get married. Those are things that are not hard for me because they’re innately my truth. I find people are somewhat perplexed by that, and also more with women, right?”) and struggling to get recognition as a producer (“I think there’s this conclusion that sometimes gets made, like, ‘It can’t possibly be a f**king actress that put this thing together'”).

-Bless Town & Country for putting Laura Dern‘s “I will not NOT be rich” line from Big Little Lies on her cover. Talk about knowing their target audience.

Drake threw himself a birthday party in LA and Rihanna showed up. Hmmm…..

-Of all the ‘established directors criticizing Marvel’ takes, this one actually has merit. Pedro Almodóvar says superhero movies aren’t sexy enough. “And sexuality doesn’t exist for superheroes. They are neutered. There is an unidentified gender, the adventure is what’s important.” I also really like this thread about how the studios’ increased obsession with targeting all four quadrants has turned the most popular movies for adults and films into the same thing.

-It’s weirdly comforting that Paul Rudd and Conan O’Brien remain committed to their long-standing talk show appearance bit.

Hailey Baldwin might have shaded her hubby’s ex Selena Gomez. Or maybe not. Be better at pettiness, celebrities!

-I’m intrigued by Netflix’s new show Daybreak, mostly because the premise of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off meets zombies sounds fun, and @ira is a writer on it. The reviews are good.

-Speaking of pop culture critics who’ve become TV writers, this is a great NYT profile on Andy Greenwald, who went from critic to showrunner.

Anne Hathaway silencing the room by saying her favourite romcom is Gone Girl is a mood.

Rose McGowan is suing Harvey Weinstein, claiming he unleashed a cadre of “fixers” to make sure her rape allegations against him weren’t revealed in her memoir.

-The fact that these two little moments in the Breaking Bad movie were both improvised makes me so happy.

-I dig that whenever Kelly Clarkson is a fan of something (like Netflix’s Lucifer), she just manages to insert herself into it. I would do the same with her power.

-Patti LuPone continues to give zero f**ks during every interview and I’m living for it. On Andrew Lloyd Webber: “How could he talk about Evita? The whole thing is sung. He’s a jerk. He’s a sad sack. He is the definition of sad sack.”

Jared Leto’s frustration that Warner Bros. was moving ahead with Todd Phillips’s Joker was so great that he not only complained to his agents at CAA, who also represent Phillips, but asked his music manager to call the leader of Warners’ parent company. Bwahahaha!

Garrett Hedlund star in the first trailer for Burden, inspired by real members of the Ku Klux Klan.

Meghan Markle Sues UK Tabloid For Publishing Private Letter

-House Sussex is suing the Daily Mail over their terrible coverage of Prince Harry and (especially) Megan Markle and is paying for the lawsuit themselves. If they win in court, proceeds from the lawsuit will be donated to anti-bullying charities. Perfect timing, as the couple is currently on tour. Prince Harry penned a blistering letter about the lawsuit, saying “I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditised to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person. I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces.”

Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin‘s wedding ceremony in South Carolina last night had a photo booth — which means there are tons of pics on IG.

-So Felicity Huffman got a super sympathetic People cover? Huh.

-Supermodel GiGi Hadid was NOT having it when a YouTube prankster got up on the runway at the Chanel fashion show in Paris.

-There’s a shady report about Adele dating grime musician Skepta and I’m kinda here for it?

Angelina Jolie took her large fam to her movie premiere. They’re soo grown up!

-The press tour for Joker continues to disintegrate before our eyes. Todd Phillips seems to think SJWs are trying to ruin comedy: “Go try to be funny nowadays with this woke culture. There were articles written about why comedies don’t work anymore—I’ll tell you why, because all the fucking funny guys are like, ‘Fuck this shit, because I don’t want to offend you.’ It’s hard to argue with 30 million people on Twitter. You just can’t do it, right? So you just go, ‘I’m out.'” As gross as this is, it seems tailor-made to resonate with the type of dudes they keep insisting this film isn’t courting.

-I am very much looking forward to Amazon’s limited series Modern Love, and glowing reviews like this are only helping its case.

Selena Gomez wrote a powerful essay on the immigration crisis for Time magazine. “I don’t claim to be an expert. I’m not a politician, I’m not a doctor, and I don’t work in the system at all. I understand it’s flawed and that we need rules and regulations, but we also have to remember that our country was formed by people who came here from other countries. It’s time to listen to the people whose lives are being directly affected by immigration policies.”

-Here’s the 6 Underground trailer, starring Ryan Reynolds and Melanie Laurent and directed by (ugh) Michael Bay.

Channing Tatum Plays Paparazzi for Jessie J

-During Jessie J’s performance in Rio last night, Channing Tatum kept jumping onstage to film her. She posted some of his shots on Instagram — and our boy did good!

Ryan Tedder was just joking when he said Coldplay has an upcoming new song featuring Beyoncé and Adele, which explains those confusing 10 minutes this afternoon when we all thought Coldplay might be relevant again.

Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin are getting married tonight and the celebrations are in full swing.

Andie MacDowell is supportive of her daughter Margaret Qualley dating Pete Davidson: “I FaceTimed with Pete the other day or no, she took a video of me to send to Pete that’s what it was. She has a beautiful relationship with him but I don’t want to step on her relationship too much. They have a nice relationship.”

Kanye West‘s latest album Jesus Is King was supposed to drop last Friday night — and now it doesn’t have a release date. A documentary film about it is expected next month, though.

-NYT’s film critic Wesley Morris thinks Gwyneth Paltrow was once “the best young American actor in the movies” and makes a case for wanting to see her star in films again. Same. (And she does sound a bit over GOOP.)

-This gross anecdote from the Hangover set about Todd Phillips, who just directed Joker, keeps making the rounds on Twitter.

Reese Witherspoon‘s son taught her how to TikTok this weekend and she exuded cool aunt energy.

-Did Jeremy Strong wear his Emmy tux on Succession last night? I have so many questions.

-Speaking of Succession, I had to physically leave the room during the rap in last night’s episode. It’s cringe-y perfection. God, this show.

-In terms of fall TV ratings, no new show hit it out of the park last week, but Prodigal Son did best out of the gate, while Stumptown soared in delayed viewings.

Billie Eilish performed a gravity-defying rendition of “Bad Guy” on SNL this weekend thanks to a rotating set.

-This is a great profile on Ryan Murphy but I especially like the bit with his and Bill Condon‘s very divergent accounts of their breakup.

-Netflix has confirmed season 4 of Stranger Things with a promo that promises a new setting. Perhaps in Russia with Hopper?

-Meanwhile, Aaron Paul says Netflix cancelled Bojack Horseman.

-Something has clearly gone sour between Marvel Studios and Marvel Entertainment: Marvel TV is reportedly phasing out live action shows to focus on animation instead.

-Clueless’ actress Stacey Dash was arrested for domestic violence after a fight with her husband.

-25 women who came forward with #MeToo allegations share their experiences about what the fallout has been in this must-read article. We spend so much time talking about the purportedly ruined lives of the alleged perpetrators; it’s time we start considering those who told the stories.

-A “really quite drunk” Daniel Craig gave a heartfelt speech at the wrap party of his latest Bond film.

-A small group of posh spies race against time to prevent history’s worst criminal masterminds from starting a war in The King’s Man trailer.
