-The Angelina Jolie/Brad Pitt divorce continues to disintegrate. Court docs reveal that she accused him of not paying enough in child support. His lawyer quickly shot back, saying her filing was “unnecessary, omits material information and is a thinly-veiled effort to manipulate media coverage” and says the actor has “paid over $1.3 million in bills for the benefit of [Jolie] and the minor children.”

She talks about not enjoying working with Nicolas Cage and Burt Reynolds, how she didn’t feel welcomed by the Friends cast, and mocks method actors (“In Crimes of Passion I was playing a designer by day, $50 whore on Hollywood Boulevard by night. Do you think I was going to hang out with whores on Hollywood Boulevard and find out what the f**k that was like? I have an imagination, you know. My belief is that all the information I need is in the script. And if it’s not, then it’s not a good enough script”).
-Jeebus F. Murphy, what is The Academy doing? They announced some new changes to the Oscars, including a three hour max telecast (sure), an earlier air date (putting it much closer to the SAGs and Globes, which isn’t great) and most perplexing, a new category to honour “popular” films. This is *such* a dumb idea. Why double down on this idea that “art house” should be separate from blockbusters? Especially since it felt like we were making progress, with genre fare like Get Out, District 9 and The Dark Knight scoring best picture noms. Relegating movies to a pandering “popular” category means the snobbier voters will feel like they are giving mainstream/diverse movies a bone without actually having to give them a real award. It’s the worst kind of gatekeeping — and the fact that they’re making this change in the year when Black Panther is getting Oscar buzz is terrible optics. ABC execs reportedly pushed for the changes in the face of declining ratings, which doesn’t even make sense. By that logic, the People Choice Awards would be the biggest rated awards show.
-Oh, now The Academy is saying a movie could potentially be nominated for both popular film and best picture. Sure.
-As expected, ABC fired Roseanne for more than just one tweet. At the TCAs, the network’s president said “For us, we have had multiple instances with Roseanne, and certainly this tweet crossed the line that cannot be crossed, but it was for us a sense of enough is enough and something had to be done.”

-I agree that Melissa Benoist should get a shot at the upcoming Supergirl movie. While I would probably recast most of the CW’s supporting characters if their superhero shows went to the big screen, their TV leads are all good enough to carry a film.

-Netflix’s Insatiable looks like it has a really terrible premise, but according to reviewers it’s even worse than advertised. Variety calls it “jaw-droppingly toxic,” Buzzfeed says it’s a “fat-shaming dumpster fire,” The Daily Beast says its fat-shaming “is the least of its problems,” and FastCompany says the trailer was only “the tip of an extremely irresponsible iceberg.”

-Pride and Prejudice costars Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen reteam in the The Nutcracker and the Four Realms trailer. Succession has really re-ignited my Macfadyen love, so I’m kinda into this.
