Angelina Jolie Accuses Brad Pitt of Skimping on Child Support

angelina-jolie-pitt-november-2015-vogue

-The Angelina Jolie/Brad Pitt divorce continues to disintegrate. Court docs reveal that she accused him of not paying enough in child support. His lawyer quickly shot back, saying her filing was “unnecessary, omits material information and is a thinly-veiled effort to manipulate media coverage” and says the actor has “paid over $1.3 million in bills for the benefit of [Jolie] and the minor children.”

-Meanwhile, Jolie‘s divorce lawyer hasn’t quit (as was previously reported), but the client/attorney relationship may be tense.

-This story about Leonardo DiCaprio’s chin being edited out of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood promos thrills and delights me.

Kathleen Turner gives zero f**ks in this interview and it’s everything. She talks about not enjoying working with Nicolas Cage and Burt Reynolds, how she didn’t feel welcomed by the Friends cast, and mocks method actors (“In Crimes of Passion I was playing a designer by day, $50 whore on Hollywood Boulevard by night. Do you think I was going to hang out with whores on Hollywood Boulevard and find out what the f**k that was like? I have an imagination, you know. My belief is that all the information I need is in the script. And if it’s not, then it’s not a good enough script”).

-Jeebus F. Murphy, what is The Academy doing? They announced some new changes to the Oscars, including a three hour max telecast (sure), an earlier air date (putting it much closer to the SAGs and Globes, which isn’t great) and most perplexing, a new category to honour “popular” films. This is *such* a dumb idea. Why double down on this idea that “art house” should be separate from blockbusters? Especially since it felt like we were making progress, with genre fare like Get Out, District 9 and The Dark Knight scoring best picture noms. Relegating movies to a pandering “popular” category means the snobbier voters will feel like they are giving mainstream/diverse movies a bone without actually having to give them a real award. It’s the worst kind of gatekeeping — and the fact that they’re making this change in the year when Black Panther is getting Oscar buzz is terrible optics. ABC execs reportedly pushed for the changes in the face of declining ratings, which doesn’t even make sense. By that logic, the People Choice Awards would be the biggest rated awards show.

-Oh, now The Academy is saying a movie could potentially be nominated for both popular film and best picture. Sure.

-As expected, ABC fired Roseanne for more than just one tweet. At the TCAs, the network’s president said “For us, we have had multiple instances with Roseanne, and certainly this tweet crossed the line that cannot be crossed, but it was for us a sense of enough is enough and something had to be done.”

-How the heck did Ariana Grande injure herself filming Carpool Karaoke?

-This is a great look at the rise of the “art bro” as celebrity arm candy.

-Is Vanity Fair going through an identity crisis?

-I was off for a few days so I missed the Beyonce Vogue cover, but wow. I know I shouldn’t be advocating for a celebrity to have complete editorial control over a publication, but wow.

-Aw man, Cameron Esposito and Rhea Butcher have split.

-I agree that Melissa Benoist should get a shot at the upcoming Supergirl movie. While I would probably recast most of the CW’s supporting characters if their superhero shows went to the big screen, their TV leads are all good enough to carry a film.

-Speaking of CW stars, Grant Gustin slammed body shamers after a photo of his new suit leaked online.

-The Cut’s guide to celebrities and their pastors is a good read.

-Netflix’s Insatiable looks like it has a really terrible premise, but according to reviewers it’s even worse than advertised.  Variety calls it “jaw-droppingly toxic,” Buzzfeed says it’s a “fat-shaming dumpster fire,” The Daily Beast says its fat-shaming “is the least of its problems,” and FastCompany says the trailer was only “the tip of an extremely irresponsible iceberg.”

-I love love love this profile of Glen Powell on how he carries himself like an old-school movie star.

Kourtney Kardashian and Younes Bendjima have split up, possibly because of this woman.

-This is a great profile on Henry Golding, a travel host with no acting credits to his name who became the leading man in three upcoming films, starting with Crazy Rich Asians.

-Jonah Hill and Emma Stone lose their minds in the trailer for the upcoming Netflix series Maniac.

-Pride and Prejudice costars Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen reteam in the The Nutcracker and the Four Realms trailer. Succession has really re-ignited my Macfadyen love, so I’m kinda into this.

Karlie Kloss, Hailee Steinfeld, Amandla Stenberg Make 30 Under 30 List

forbes-30-under-30

-Forbes’ hotly anticipated 30 Under 30 list dropped, and the celebs on it include Hailee Steinfeld, Amandla Stenberg, Karlie Kloss, Zoe Kravitz and Ben Platt.

-It took awhile, but I really like this statement from Grant Gustin on the allegations that a CW EP harassed staff.

-Meanwhile, in a joint statement signed by One Tree Hill stars including Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton and Bethany Joy Lenz, the female cast crew allege showrunner Mark Schwahn manipulated many of them “psychologically and emotionally.” After the letter was released, male members of the cast, including Bryan Greenberg, Austin Nichols, and James Lafferty, offered their support over Twitter, while other women who worked on the show but did not sign the letter echoed similar sentiments.

-Netflix is reportedly facing big difficulties over firing Kevin Spacey. According to sources, Spacey doesn’t have a morality clause in his contract meaning he is unable to be suspended or terminated from the series as a result of the allegations.

Nearly 30 years after first investigating James Toback ’s behavior, the authors of a Spy piece recall their reporting. “We tried to stop James Toback decades ago.”

-Actress Elizabeth Perkins held a #MeToo sign naming James Woods at an L.A. march. Willa Holland’s mom responded by saying Woods sexually harassed the actress when she was just 17.

-I love Bryan Cranston but screw this noise.

-I also love Jon Stewart but I’m just not buying that he’s ‘stunned’ by the allegations against Louis C.K. This didn’t come out of nowhere. Tig Notaro has been talking about it for months. C.K. was asked about the allegations by the New York Times during TIFF in September.

-Meanwhile, has any male comedian besides Jason Alexander spoken out yet? I’m really disappointed by a lot of my faves.

-Also, this piece on the history of terrible comedians is worth reading. But I’m still I’m not worried about TV comedy. At all.

Mindy Kaling on the end of The Mindy Project: “Six years ago I created a show called The Mindy Project and got to play the lead. Not the sassy friend or nagging wife. It completely changed my life.”

-If the Galaxy Quest TV reboot ends up featuring the movie’s original cast, I’m so in!

Rose McGowan has surrendered on that felony drug charge.

Connie Nielsen, Tom Felton, and Dominic Cooper get violent in the Stratton trailer.

Kendall Jenner Nabs Sept Issue of Vogue

-I had a lot of guesses about who was going to land the cover of September Vogue. Kendall effing Jenner was not at the top of my list.

-Also serving up cover: Gina Rodriguez on Health.

-In a new interviewAmy Schumer talks about Twitter hate and maintaining her confidence. “Just spend shorter amounts of time thinking you’re the ugliest person in the world.”

Hugh Jackman posted a photo of him looking really old, and news outlets didn’t get that he was wearing makeup for a movie.

-What the hell? Criminal Minds’ star Thomas Gibson was suspended after kicking a writer-producer. This is the second time he’s had a physical altercation with a producer on this set. Man, the Dharma & Greg folks have not aged well.

-More stories about how Vin Diesel isn’t exactly a gem continue to surface.

-This article about what it means to be a difficult actor versus a difficult actress is worth your time.

-Speaking of difficult actors, here’s an interesting read on how Jared Leto has ruined method acting. It’s “become more about ego and marketing than good performances.” (On the plus side, maybe actors will stop talking about their “craft” and “process” in interviews.)

Leslie. Jones. Has. Landed. In. Rio.

-The producers of the all-female Oceans Eleven reboot are reportedly worried about a Ghostbusters-type backlash. Funny how this has been the summer of sequel flops and no one’s hand-wringing about those.

-The staff of a Toronto hospital staff sang ‘Courage’ in a tribute to Gord Downie. No, YOU’RE crying!

-Us Weekly claims that Taylor Kinney is already trying to crawl back to Lady Gaga.

-When Adele invited a fan up on stage with her, she had no idea that fan was a Grammy-nominated artist.

Hugh Grant has a pretty laid back attitude about being fat-shamed recently by British tabloids: “They weren’t wrong. I looked shocking. It was awful.”

-Meanwhile, Hugh and Meryl Streep participated in a rather charming AMA on Reddit.

Jonah Hill says he doubts the 23 Jump Street-Men in Black crossover movie will get made. Prayer works!

Jared Padalecki wants you all to know that he was not actually the Trump Tower climber.

-I tend to not like white dresses but Amal Clooney‘s flapper-inspired one is working for her.

-Days after being fired from SNL, Taran Killam and Jay Pharoah have both landed new leading man gigs.

-This is a long but great read on TV’s current drama slump. “An increasing number of not-great dramas with a prestige-y sheen are piling onto a field that was already standing-room only.”

-The fact that Emmy season means Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys are now doing a bunch of joint interviews/photo shoots makes me giddy.

-The TCAs saved my favourite network for last. Lots of goodies from The CW dropped today, including that a character on one of the superhero shows will come outDolph Lundgren will star as Arrow’s villain during their last year of flashbacks, and The Flash and Supergirl are planning a musical crossover that may include Arrow and Legends cast members. Amell has already bowed out, but if we can get a song between Victor Garber, Jesse L Martin, John Barrowman and the Glee alums, I’ll be happy. Remember when Grant Gustin did “Smooth Criminal” and made us all forget that we were supposed to hate his character?

Rachel Weisz is suffering an identity crisis in the Complete Unknown trailer.
