Silicon Valley Moves On From TJ Miller

silicon-valley-thr

-I’ve never been able to get into Silicon Valley because its lack of female characters (and the way they treat the few they have) put me off, but it’s interesting that THR’s new cover story is so openly critical of ex-cast member TJ Miller. “There had been stretches when, multiple show sources say, he looked to have things under control, and others when he’d show up seemingly under the influence, if he showed up at all…Table reads would start late as the cast and crew waited on the untamable actor, and when he did arrive he typically hadn’t cracked open the script. Schedules would regularly have to be rejiggered, and sources from the set recount tales of Miller falling asleep between takes.”

Frances McDormand’s Oscar speech is already working. Your internet boyfriend Michael B. Jordan  says he will incorporate an inclusion rider into all the projects his company produces.

Matthew Morrison hosted a Glee cast reunion and almost everyone show up (with one or two notable exceptions).

-The guy who allegedly groped Terry Crews won’t face charges. Is it just me, or is the Me Too movement kind of forgetting to support Crews as much as others?

-The Wrinkle In Time reviews are in, and they are decidedly mixed. From all the reviews I read, I think this tweet sums up the critical response: there’s something visceral about it that works on you or doesn’t.

-Whoa. Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew are being written out of Grey’s Anatomy. I don’t really watch that show much anymore, but I caught a recent episode and it seemed like Arizona had zero story and they’d really messed up April, so I guess that makes sense.

-The worrisome stories continue: Dean McDermott reportedly called 911 and asked them to check on Tori Spelling‘s well-being.

Gwyneth Paltrow scored Oprah as her first podcast guest.

-Jennifer Lawrence is feuding with a reality TV star, which sounds about right.

-Speaking of JLaw, I liked this article on her backlash.

Reese Witherspoon flirted with Adam Rippon hard on Colbert. “You smell really good. You’re more handsome in person than even on the ice.” And then he unbuttoned his shirt for her.

-Don’t try to ask Christina Hendricks about the Me Too movement. Her publicist won’t let her answer.

-Nick Offerman stars in the The House of Tomorrow trailer.

Tiffany Haddish Has a Hookup Pact with Brad Pitt

Tiffany Haddish talking about her encounter with Brad Pitt in an elevator is all good. “He said in one year if he’s single and I’m single, we’re gonna do it.” God, how interesting would that suddenly make him?

Haddish also wore the same Alexander McQueen dress that she wore to the Girls Trip premiere and on SNL, and she jumped over a rope on the red carpet so she could curtsy in front of Meryl Streep. We are blessed to have her in our lives.

-Everyone’s talking about how E! bungled their red carpet coverage, with Maria Menounos grabbing most of the stars while Ryan Seacrest was awkwardly left with nothing to do.

-Also, I wasn’t as convinced as the rest of Twitter that Taraji P. Henson was “shading” Seacrest during her interview. Sure enough, she says she was actually supporting him: “I did it to keep his chin up. It’s an awkward position to be in. He’s been cleared but anyone can say anything.”

Frances McDormand gave the best speech of the night — and then someone tried to steal her Oscar trophy from her.

-People are really angry about Emma Stone trying to pull a Natalie Portman with her “These four men and Greta Gerwig” comment when presenting best director, seeing as one of those men is a Mexican immigrant and another is the first black person to win Original Screenplay. Someone needs to teach her about intersectional feminism.

-I have watched this GIF of Jennifer Garner at the Oscars so many times today. What is she thinking about?!?

-I also spent a long time looking up photos of Mindy Kaling with BJ Novak at the after-parties. I have such hope, guys!

-Also, this photo of the four women who lost Best Actress in a group hug is wonderful.

-I love this video of Sandra Bullock talking about crying in front of the Black Panther cast because the movie will mean to her son.

-I also love this video of Nicole Kidman interrupting Bullock during a red carpet interview (especially because Kidman seems so surprised that she liked Practical Magic when she showed it to her kids recently).

-I’m assuming the Times Up tat Emma Watson was sporting at the Oscar parties is temporary?

Henry Cavill isn’t dead, just confused.

-Good on Dwayne Johnson for accepting his Razzie for Baywatch. Here’s the thing, though: I actually saw Baywatch in theatres (it was a dark time), and he was the best thing about it! The reason that movie is so horrible is because his character disappears for like 40 mins.

Mae Whitman‘s continuing campaign to have every Friday Night Lights hunk play her boyfriend at some point tickles me. Do it, Kitsch!

Lee Pace opened up about his sexuality on Twitter after getting some pushback for hedging his answers in a recent W interview.

-The first trailer for Mary Poppins Returns dropped during the Oscars.

Chris Pratt Is Keeping It Real

Chris Pratt wrote a Facebook post about how normal his life is.

-Speaking of notes that made me laugh,  Damon Lindelof’letter to critics that he included with The Leftovers screeners is hilarious. He drops references to Joss Whedon and Fleabag, he avoids telling critics how to do their jobs, and then he wraps it up by lightly shading Matthew Weiner.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are reportedly speaking again — but only about the kids.

Ryan Gosling explains why he laughed when La La Land had the Best Picture Oscar taken away. “I thought there was some kind of medical situation, and I had this worst-case scenario playing out in my head. And then I just heard Moonlight won and I was so relieved that I started laughing.”

-The new NYT profile on John Mayer is titled “John Mayer Knows He Messed Up. He Wants Another Chance.” Well, he’s a rich white dude so I’m guessing he’s got at least another dozen coming…

Kate Winslet opened up about being bullied as a child: “They “teased me for wanting to act. Locked me in the cupboard. Laughed at me.”

-Wait, the Love Actually reunion will air tomorrow in the UK?! I wonder if I can book a boardroom for when this thing hits the web so I can squee over it in peace?

David Boreanaz has already signed on to his next TV role. After eight years on Buffy/Angel, and then 12 on Bones maybe he should just sleep for a bit?

-The new Netflix drama 13 Reasons Why, exec produced by Selena Gomez, is getting glowing reviews.

-This is a good piece on how Hollywood is getting way too much credit for tiny gestures towards LGBT inclusivity.

-Remember Maggie Rogers, the NYU music student who blew Pharrell Williams away with her demo? Now she’s killing it on James Corden’s show and getting New Yorker profiles. Put her new EP in your ear holes right now!

-Oh god, the full trailer for The Handmaid’s Tale is devastating. This is going to be a hard watch given the current climate.

-The red band trailer for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri might be the best trailer I’ve seen in a long, long time. I think I fell a little bit in love with Frances McDormand just watching it. (I was already in love with Sam Rockwell. Obviously.)
