-Here’s our first look at Gillian Anderson as Eleanor Roosevelt, Michelle Pfeiffer as Betty Ford, and Viola Davis as Michelle Obama in Showtime’s The First Lady.

-The Houston police has declared Travis Scott‘s Astroworld festival a “mass casualty event” after 8 people died and hundreds were injured (including a 9-year-old) after the crowd surged forward during his headlining set and security did not stop the show for 40 minutes. Videos of the audience trying to alert the crew and being ignored are heartbreaking.

–Scott has cancelled his upcoming festival appearances as the lawsuits begin to pour in. Drake, who made a guest appearance at the festival, has also been named in one suit.

–Emily Ratajkowski talked about her new book with the Sunday Times, saying that the exploitation of young women is still common in modeling (“I was not at all shocked by [the Jeffrey Epstein] story. I witnessed so much of that in different forms”), revealed that her teenage boyfriend ‘forced himself’ on her when she was 14 (“So many young women I know, their first early sexual experiences border on nonconsensual”), and said modeling gave her a complex relationship with her body (“There is this sense of your body is not yours, it’s ours. In this contract you’ve given it up to be used how we see fit… If you’re not willing to do what the client wants you to do with your body, then there’s somebody else who will be”).

-According to Page Six, Chris Evans will be this year’s Sexiest Man Alive. I like him a lot but the only interesting thing about this whole thing is that People got scooped.

–Lee Pace shared some thirsty pics and that’s just what I needed to save this Monday.

–Vin Diesel held an olive branch out to Dwayne Johnson via an Instagram post, inviting him back to the Fast and Furious franchise.

–Kanye West (no, I’m not calling him Ye) was spotted at a basketball game with model Vinetria.

–Scott Speedman revealed on Instagram that he’s a new dad.

-After Aaron Rodgers hit nearly every anti-v*xxer talking point in an interview, his fiancée Shailene Woodley is insisting her cryptic posts are not referencing it.

–Emilio Estevez is pushing back on a report that he’s not doing season two of Mighty Ducks because he refuses to follow the show’s vaccine mandate. He blames his departure on “contract disputes” and “creative differences” and says he contracted covid in March 2020 and suffers from long haul symptoms. Interestingly, his statement doesn’t say anything about him being vaccinated.

-Production on Black Panther 2 has halted due to Letitia Wright‘s experiencing an “onset injury.”

-In an open letter, George Clooney asked the media to stop publishing photos of his kids. I can’t recall ever seeing any, but I rarely follow the British press.

-A Kelly Clarkson holiday special is coming to NBC next month.

–Isaiah Washington tweeted about how he’d be happy to return to Grey’s and play the lead, as long as Ellen Pompeo was “finally gone”. This is unhinged.

-This is such a great profile on Simon Rex and the highs and lows of celebrity. He partied his way through the early aughts, lost his career for a decade, and is now being lauded by critics for his role in festival darling Red Rocket.

–Will Smith reportedly gave the best wrap gift ever to his King Richard costars: cold, hard cash.

-I saw Eternals this weekend and while it wasn’t my fave Marvel movie, it certainly wasn’t as bad as Iron Man 2 or some of the Thor or Hulk movies, despite getting worse reviews. This is a good piece on how Chloé Zhao may be being punished for playing the Marvel good soldier.

-After Eternals got banned in Saudi Arabia and more due to its openly gay superhero, Angelina Jolie responded: “I’m proud of Marvel for refusing to cut [gay] scenes out…How anybody is angry about it, threatened by it, doesn’t approve or appreciate it is ignorant.”

-Speaking of Eternals, I really liked Chloé Zhao’s answer about Kumail Nanjiani‘s character’s decision, which I don’t think I’ve ever seen in a superhero film before. (I did not, however, agree with her answer about referencing a real-life tragedy in the film.)

–Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell‘s new Apple show Shrink Next Door is getting good reviews.

–Ben Gibbard talked about the legacy of Death Cab for Cutie’s The Photo Album, which is 20 years old. He says his favorite use of a Death Cab song on TV was The OC, which of course it is.

–Benedict Cumberbatch goes west in the trailer for Netflix’s The Power of the Dog, Jane Campion‘s latest which is getting serious Oscar buzz.

–Kieran Culkin‘s THR cover story is delightful. He opens up about his strange celebrity childhood, his fears about fame, and why everyone on the Succession set loves Sarah Snook.

-I liked this interview with Julianna Margulies on joining The Morning Show. “I went to Sarah Lawrence college. I think if there isn’t a better place to learn about what being gay is, I don’t know.”

-This article about Matthew Rhys on a boat is so very charming.

-Oh god. THR’s new story on how Hollywood is divided on vaccines includes a bit about how Letitia Wright, who is currently reprising her role as Princess Shuri in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as it films in Atlanta, has reportedly continued to express anti-vaccine skepticism on the set of the film.

–Britney Spears‘ boyfriend Sam Asghari seems to be encouraging her that she return to the stage. Should she, though?

–Emily Ratajkowski says the story about Robin Thicke allegedly groping her while shooting the Blurred Lines video was “frustrating” because that passage from her book “was leaked” against her will. “I feel like it just turns into a clickbait frenzy, and all of a sudden words like ‘sexual assault’ and ‘allegations’ are getting thrown around rather than people reading the actual essay, so, again, I’m just looking forward to when people will be able to hear things in my own words.”

–Diplo may face criminal charges for sexual misconduct stemming from allegations in an October 2020 police report.

-A judge ruled that Charlie Sheen no longer has to pay child support, which ‘blindsided’ Denise Richards, according to her camp.

-Fans are going nuts about the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills reunion trailer.

–Jake Gyllenhaal was talking about shooting sex scenes with Jennifer Aniston in The Good Girl and explained that for intimate scenes, a pillow was placed between the actors. “The pillow technique was used. That was just preemptive and used generally always when actually in a horizontal place in that movie…I think that was actually a Jennifer suggestion. She was very kind to suggest it before we began. She was like, ‘I’m putting a pillow here.'” Smart!

-Squid Game’s Jung Ho-yeon has just been named a Global House Ambassador for Louis Vuitton. I love her and want only good things for her.

-Meanwhile, this Halloween’s hottest costume is the Squid Game jumpsuit.

-According to reviews, Michael Keaton and Kaitlyn Dever will break your heart in Dopesick, Hulu’s harrowing drama about the origins of the opioid crisis in America. It looks so good, and yet I don’t think I have it in me to watch something that dark right now.

-The official trailer for festival breakout Red Rocket is here, starring Simon Rex as a washed-up porn star returning to his small Texas hometown.

Is a New Adele Album About to Drop?

-Instagram may still be down, but that didn’t stop Adele from teasing us. She just tweeted for the first time in months, adding to a long list of hints that she’s about to drop a new album any day now.

-Speaking of stars who moved from IG to Twitter today, Britney Spears posted one of her posing videos with the caption “#FreeBritney movement … I have no words … because of you guys and your constant resilience in freeing me from my conservatorship … my life is now in that direction !!!!! I cried last night for two hours cause my fans are the best and I know it …”

-In her new memoir, Emily Ratajkowski says Robin Thicke drunkenly groped her on the set of the “Blurred Lines” music video. “Suddenly, out of nowhere, I felt the coolness and foreignness of a stranger’s hands cupping my bare breasts from behind. I instinctively moved away, looking back at Robin Thicke. He smiled a goofy grin and stumbled backward, his eyes concealed behind his sunglasses. My head turned to the darkness beyond the set. [The director, Diane Martel’s] voice cracked as she yelled out to me, ‘Are you okay?’ I pushed my chin forward and shrugged, avoiding eye contact, feeling the heat of humiliation pump through my body. I didn’t react — not really, not like I should have.” She says Martel immediately instituted a “no touching” rule.

-Lil Nas X had the appropriate reaction to Kidz Bop covering his song.

-For some reason, Lizzo thought it would be a good idea to call Chris Brown her “favorite person.” Out loud. In public.

–Lindsay Lohan is starting her own podcast, in which she’ll have “intimate conversations” with friends and famous guests.

-The Veuve Cliquot Polo Classic happened on Saturday and the stars turned up with some lewks.

-Here we go. Members of IATSE, one of Hollywood’s largest labour unions, have voted 98% in favour of authorizing a strike that could shut down most film and TV production.

-Meanwhile, this is a good chat with various crewmembers over the cruelty of over-12-hour workdays, short rest periods and under-$18-an-hour rates on productions that net their stars and studios millions.

-The cast of Squid Game will be on The Tonight Show this Wednesday.

-Venom: Let There Be Carnage did even better than expected by taking in $90.1 million at the box office this past weekend — even better than the first movie (which opened in pre-pandemic times).

-After breaking things off with Elon Musk, Grimes staged an impromptu photoshoot a copy of The Communist Manifesto. It was not received well.

–Oscar Isaac briefly went full frontal in last night’s episode of Scenes from a Marriage, which isn’t even enough to get me to tune back in. I gave up on episode 2 because I was so bored.

-Midnight Mass was good, but my god someone has to tell Mike Flanagan to cut down on the completely uninterrupted monologues.

-There’s barely any buzz about the new slate of TV shows debuting this fall, but the only one that people seem to love is Ghosts. It’s a CBS sitcom, which makes the critical love even more surprising, but it’s got the girl from iZombie who I like a lot.

–Dave Eggers is refusing to sell his new novel on Amazon.

-This is a fascinating read by AIDS activist Peter Staley about how Dallas Buyers Club’s original script was full of homophobia and AIDS denialism.

–Andrew Garfield plays a struggling writer in the trailer for Netflix’s Tick, Tick… Boom!, the autobiographical musical of Rent creator Jonathan Larson. It’s Lin-Manuel Miranda‘s feature directorial debut.
