Andrew Garfield Gets a Cobra Kai Surprise

-Earlier this year, Andrew Garfield revealed he’s a huge Cobra Kai fan — so the stars sent him a video message. His obvious delight at this is adorable. “It feels like Christmas in my body…Life can be ok sometimes. Life can be really nice.”

–Jimmy Kimmel posted a photo with singed hair on Instagram, saying he’d burned his ‘hair and eyebrow off’ while ‘lighting the oven’ for Thanksgiving dinner.

–Kanye West made a surprise appearance at Los Angeles Mission’s Annual Thanksgiving event and he said…some things. “The narrative God wants is to see that we can be redeemed in all these relationships. We’ve made mistakes. I’ve made mistakes. I’ve publicly done things that were not acceptable as a husband, but right now today, for whatever reason — I didn’t know I was going to be in front of this mic — but I’m here to change the narrative…I’m doing everything to be right next to the situation… I’m trying to express this in the most sane way, the most calm way possible, but I need to be back home.”

–Dave Chapelle tried to pull his shit on a bunch of high schoolers, and they weren’t having it. “I’m 16 and I think you’re childish, you handled it like a child.”

-Prince William and Kate Middleton are working on a Christmas carol concert broadcast fundraiser, and they’ve changed the broadcaster from BBC to ITV — likely because BBC just aired an unflattering doc about their involvement with the tabloids.

–Jared Leto continues to be subtle and demure in interviews. Talking about his prep for House of Gucci, he said “I did it all. I was snorting lines of arrabbiata sauce by the middle of this movie. I had olive oil for blood. This was a deep dive I did. If you took a biopsy of my skin, it would come back as parmesan cheese! This is my love letter to Italy.” (Judging by the reviews of his performance in particular, Italy might be marking that ‘return to sender’.)

–David Beckham taught his daughter how to boil an egg. I would definitely cook more if he was around to kiss me on the forehead after every successful attempt…

-This is how Samantha Jones is being written out of the Sex and the City reboot. It leaves the door wide open for a cameo, but Kim Cattrall will never walk through it.

–Casey Affleck, 46, and is dating 23-year-old actress Caylee Cowan. Sound about right.

–Van Hunt wrote an article about his girlfriend Halle Berry, and it’s very sweet if you can ignore the lack of capitalization. “no one ever discusses this tenacity when describing her. they speak of beauty and favorite movies, but never of heart. it is nigh impossible to peer inside Halle without noticing her heart; and the principles that make it thump.”

-Spice Girl Geri Halliwell is mourning the unexpected loss of her brother, who passed away suddenly at age 54.

–Elliot Page and Awkwafina are friends and I love that for them.

-Elle released a series of covers for their Women in Hollywood issue, including ones featuring The Eternals’ stars Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Salma Hayek and Lauren Radloff. In the shoot, the best pics are of Jolie — mostly because they shot her swinging in a harness over a swimming pool.

-In a series of scathing Instagram posts, actress Ruby Rose finally opened up about her abrupt departure from the CW’s Batwoman, claiming unsafe work conditions and mistreatment by the network/studio. She also called out costar Dougray Scott, who she says “yelled like a little bitch at women and was a nightmare.” (My Ever After-loving heart is breaking.) Warner Bros TV responded with their own harsh words, saying she was fired based on an internal investigation of “multiple complaints about workplace behavior that were extensively reviewed.”  Between this, Brandon Routh and Dominic Purcell leaving Legends under not-great-sounding circumstances, and Supergirl’s Jon Cryer liking tweets about boycotting the network, the CW needs to get their house in order.

-All the bts drama makes me glad that Arrow ended and the decades-long hold the WB/UPN/CW had on me lifted, though the new teaser for The Flash’s crossover event looks good. It will feature Jefferson from Black Lightning, Mia from Arrow, Ray from Legends, Alex from Supergirl, Ryan from Batwoman, and Roy Choi from the last CW crossover.

-Netflix is vehemently disputing the fired staffer’s denial of leaking Dave Chappelle payout information to the press.

-Meanwhile, Ashlee Marie Preston, Jonathan Van Ness, Angelica Ross, Jameela Jamil, Mason Alexander Park, Kate Bornstein, Our Lady J, Sara Ramirez, Peppermint and Colton Haynes appeared in a video to support the walkout of Netflix employees, and Elliot Page (who stars in Netflix’s Umbrella Academy) tweeted it.

-Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy also voiced his support.

-Also, the list of demand for the walkout is very thoughtful — and does not include taking down Chappelle’s special.

–Jonah Hill says he doesn’t care that people think he ruined surfing. First, why do people think that? Second, is he searching IG stickers with his name? Third, would anyone know about this if he hadn’t posted it?

–Alicia Silverstone says she’s been banned from a dating app twice (likely Raya).

–The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced that it would move forward with handing out Golden Globe awards for the films and TV shows of 2021 — even if it’s not broadcast.

-This is such a good piece on why Mel Gibson keeps getting so many chances. “I’m convinced that far too many people decided that Weinstein’s punishment was proof enough that they’d fixed the problem. Not only that but it became the new benchmark for abuse.”

–Freida Pinto is the latest celeb to reveal a secret wedding during lockdown.

–Meryl Streep, Kit Harington and Matthew Rhys will head the ensemble of an eight-episode drama on Apple TV+ about climate change.

–Adele described her unique way of eating chips and I’m very intrigued!

-This is a great interview with Shalita Grant on playing the comic relief in You and Search Party.

-The finale for Only Murders in the Building aired this week and I was surprised how continually charmed I was by that show.  Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez made a fascinating team, Amy Ryan is always stellar, and Tina Fey has a quip at the end of the finale that I’m still laughing about.

-Netflix is moving ahead with a To All The Boys spinoff focused on the youngest daughter, Kitty.

-Here’s a clip of Anya Taylor-Joy singing “Downtown” for the soundtrack to Last Night in Soho.

–Jamie Dornan and Caitriona Balfe star in the Belfast trailer, written and directed by Kenneth Branagh. Audiences adored this at TIFF, where it won the People’s Choice Award.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s Stunning Tiffany Campaign

–Beyoncé and Jay-Z are starring in a new Tiffany campaign featuring a never-before-seen Basquiat painting, as well as the iconic yellow diamond, which has only been worn by 4 women.

-In a joint Vanity Fair interview with Jason Sudeikis, Elizabeth Olsen commented on Scarlett Johansson’s fight against Disney. “I think she’s so tough and literally when I read that I was like, ‘Good for you, Scarlett.’ ” So far, the only  other Marvel actor to publicly comment on the lawsuit is Dave Bautista, who tweeted, “Told em they should’ve made a #Drax movie but noooooo!”

–Drake and Kanye West‘s feud reignited over the weekend. Drake appeared to take a shot at West in his verse on the Trippie Redd song “Betrayal” and West then shared a screenshot of a text message he sent to a thread with eight people on it (including Drake, presumably) that showed a photo of Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker with the message “I live for this. I’ve been f–ked with by nerd ass jock n—as like you my whole life. You will never recover. I promise you.” And then West posted a Google Maps screenshot of what appeared to be Drake’s home address in Toronto.

–Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been praised for their efforts to help evacuate the people of Afghanistan.

–Elliot Page accepted his Outfest’s Achievement Award virtually and talked about the importance of representation. “I don’t know if I would have made it through the moments of isolation and loneliness and shame and self-hatred that was so extreme and powerful and all-encompassing that you could hardly see out of it. And then, you know, at 15, when you are flipping through the channels and you stumble on ‘But I’m a Cheerleader’ and the dialogue in that film, and scenes in that film just transform your life.”

–Sandra Oh says she’s excited to see what Elliot Page is going to do next. “I have done so many movies with him.”

-I had no idea that Oh’s new Netflix show The Chair was created by actress Amanda Peet.

–Jesse Metcalfe is revealing why he chose to leave Chesapeake Shores. “Getting to know a new showrunner and create a working relationship with a new person was not necessarily something I wanted to do…I didn’t have any conversations with our new showrunner, Phoef Sutton. We took a lunch well before the pandemic. Then the pandemic hit and Phoef and his writing team had a long time to craft season 5, but unfortunately I never heard from anybody on the production side and so I was given the [scripts for the] first couple of episodes. That creative relationship was not really established this time around.” This seems to be asking a lot of a Hallmark show but ok.

–Taylor Swift joined TikTok with a video recreating looks from past albums – and an announcement that her version of Red will be released on vinyl Nov 19.

-In a new interview, Molly Shannon (who is coming off The White Lotus and stars in the new season of The Other Two) talks about the tragic childhood loss that has shaped her life. She reveals her mother, younger sister and cousin died in a car accident when she was 4. Her father, who had been driving under the influence, survived but was horribly injured.

-The trailer for Kacey Musgraves‘ upcoming album and film pays homage to Romeo + Juliet, and offers a glimpse of Euguene Levy‘s cameo. She also dropped a new single.

-Speaking of new music, Olivia Rodrigo released a video for “Brutal.”

-I loved this interview with Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein. He talks about how a classic Dickensian villain helped shape brooding hero Roy Kent, and why the show isn’t as light and fluffy as people make it out to be.

-HBO made some announcements today, including that Insecure, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Succession will all return in October.

–Barry Jenkins and Dan Levy tweeted out their support to a Toronto restaurant that’s being targeted but dumb anti-v**xers.

-The Toronto Film Festival is requiring all attendees to show proof of vaccination or a negative test to attend. I still haven’t figured out if all my screenings with be virtual or if I’ll do a few in-person, but this is comforting.

-The reviews for Shang-Chi are glowing.

-William Miller’s fictional think piece about Stillwater from Almost Famous is now online.

–Mayim Bialik will take over hosting Jeopardy until the dust settles. She’s scheduled to tape three weeks of episodes when production resumes this week.

-This is a very smart piece on what happened with Jeopardy and what it says about the industry. “There are countless relatively anonymous producers across Hollywood who probably know that if Richards’ situation is about to define the new standard for decency in Hollywood, in terms of what is and what isn’t acceptable, they’re going to be in trouble as well.”

-A feature film focusing on Jurnee Smollett‘s Birds of Prey character Black Canary is in early development for HBO Max, with Smollett’s Lovecraft Country showrunner Misha Green set to write the script.

-The trailer for season 2 of The Morning Show (a show that started really rocky but grew on me by the end of season 1) has dropped. Looks like Will Arnett has joined the cast — and Billy Crudup is still the best thing about the show ’cause he continues to just GO for it.
