Zendaya Lands Her First Vogue Cover

zendaya vogue cover

Zendaya looks stunning on the cover of Vogue’s July issue, in which she talks about making demands to Disney execs when she was only 16, and learning trapeze for her new movie.

-THR’s TV Comedy Actress roundtable features Emmy Rossum, Issa Rae, America Ferrera, Pamela Adlon, Minnie Driver, and Katherine Hahn. Among the best bits: Rossum says William H. Macy supported her most during her equal pay fight, Adlon remembered having a similar battle on Californication, Driver talked about directors building ditches for her to stand in when kissing shorter costars instead of just making the actor stand on an apple box, and Hahn talked about always getting typecast as the BFF and pitched a Rosencrantz and Guildenstern-type movie where she and Judy Greer are the leads, and every so often you see Kate Hudson running around in the background. (I would watch that.)

Beyonce might be having her twins right now and the internet is melting down.

Jessica Chastain would like everyone to stop looking at her wedding photos, which were taken by paps in a helicopter. Fair enough (though I’ll be interested to see if she shares them herself eventually, or sells them to a pub).

-I posted a few days ago about Jake Johnson‘s awesome story about Tom Cruise being the nicest guy ever. Here are 18 more.

-On the flip side, did he have too much say in The Mummy script?

Elizabeth Banks really stepped in it yesterday when she used an acceptance speech to call out legendary director Steven Spielberg for failing to make female-lead films. Shari Belafonte pointed out The Color Purple, but Banks simply “moved on.” This white feminism bullshit is getting worse.

-Update: Elizabeth tweeted an apology. She’s a producer and a director now; lets hope she learns from this and hires all types of women for her next projects.

-Speaking of famous white women being woke-light, the NYT profile on Katy Perry did her no favours. The writer calls her out repeatedly, saying “in our interview, she proclaimed herself devoted to dialogue but spoke in a near uninterrupted monologue.” It’s like when DeRay Mckesson asked her about cultural appropriation during her live-stream and she talked for two minutes straight but never actually apologized.

-This is depressing: the Cosby jury is deadlocked. They deliberated for 30 hours over 4 days before telling the judge they couldn’t reach a verdict. He’s ordered them back for more deliberations.

-Making a Murderer fans: Steven Avery‘s lawyer says she thinks the victim’s ex-boyfriend killed her.

Rebel Wilson won her defamation case against a magazine publisher: “I had to stand up to a bully.”

-Sweet! The Walking Dead’s Danai Gurira is joining the cast of Avengers: Infinity War.

-I can’t believe I somehow missed this last week: Tobey Maguire and ex-wife Jennifer Meyer attended their daughter’s school production of Beauty & the Beast, and all their A-list friends came, including Leonardo DiCaprio (with his wolf pack), Courteney Cox and Gwyneth Paltrow. I bet the other kids felt like crap when only their grandparents showed up for them.

-The Wolf Pack has moved on to NYC and picked up Orlando Bloom.

Gwyneth Paltrow says she’s moving away from acting to focus on Goop. So I guess I’m moving towards ridiculing her full time.

DeMario Jackson broke his silence over those Bachelor In Paradise allegations, saying “my character has been assassinated.”

-Also, this article on drunken hook-ups on reality TV is unnerving. “There are implied incentives available to cast members who are down to fool around.”

Karrueche Tran has beeng granted a five-year restraining order against Chris Brown.

Ryan Seacrest is on the cover of THR with the crazy story of the secret, heated negotiations to bring him back to the rebooted American Idol. After blowing the record-breaking $25 million to hire Katy Perry, producers went back to Seacrest with half of their original offer and things got tense.

-I really like both Chrissy Teigen and Colton Haynes, but these interviews are way too TMI.

Josh Brolin is getting seriously buff for Deadpool 2.

-How the hell is Johnny Depp still getting handed first-look deals? How many bombs is he going to have to have before Hollywood moves on?

Elle Macpherson has split from her billionaire husband.

-National treasure Diane Keaton candidly listed the celebs she is and isn’t friends with.

-I watched The Leftovers series finale a week ago and avoided articles/podcasts up until now because I wanted to have time to digest it. (I’ve changed my mind three times since then about whether or not I believe Nora’s story, but I’m holding firm in my first impression that it was a near-perfect finale.) Now that I’m looking up what was written about it, I’m astounded by Vulture’s deep dive. Their writer was basically embedded with the show for months to create this feature. It verges a little into ‘how the sausage is made’ territory, but even if you’ve never seen the show, this is a great read for anyone interested in how TV works.

-Rough Night is only at 55% on Rotten Tomatoes, but it got good reviews from two critics I usually agree with, so that’s promising.

-This is an interesting look at how much Netflix is paying for new TV shows (word is that they’re investing $4 per subscriber on original content.) Basically, they “must spend like a drunken sailor to compete with TV networks.”

-Do NOT put Lindsay Lohan and Jane Austen in the same headline, People! Don’t you effing dare!

Aisha Tyler emotionally announced on today’s show that she’s leaving The Talk: “I just realized I had to let something go”. Can’t say I’m surprised. She’s at Seacrest-levels of work, with Criminal Minds, Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Archer, her podcast, her cocktail company and hitting the festival circuit with her directorial debut. I don’t even know if I’ve ever watched an episode of The Talk but when she started sob-heaving in that clip I got teary.

-The new Friends From College trailer stars Cobie Smulders, Fred Savage and Keegan-Michael Key.

Kristen Stewart Talks About Girlfriend Alicia Cargile in Elle

kristen-stewart-elle-uk

Kristen Stewart opens up about girlfriend Alicia Cargile in her Elle UK cover story, saying “We’ve broken up a couple of times and gotten back together, and this time I was like, ‘Finally, I can feel again.'” She also talks about the different reception she gets when dating a woman: “When I was dating a guy…we were turned into these characters and placed into this ridiculous comic book, and I was like, ‘That’s mine. You’re making my relationship something that it’s not.’ I didn’t like that. But then it changed when I started dating a girl.” (Also, I love the cover.)

-I tried to get through Jared Leto‘s Rolling Stone cover story. I really did. That’s gotta count for something, right?

-Meanwhile, Will Smith made the wise choice to NOT get a matching tattoo with his Suicide Squad cast members, but he was there to point and laugh.

-Also, Will and Margot Robbie did a really weird Suicide Squad press event here that I didn’t attend and am now regretting.

-Did the movie studio ban Tom Hiddleston from taking Taylor Swift to Comic Con? Hahahahahaha!

-This is a great interview with Lainey on the Summer of Swift.

-Taylor’s bestie Ed Sheeran maybe secretly married his girlfriend Cherry Seaborn recently.

Elizabeth Banks led celebs in a “Fight Song” cover for Hilary Clinton that included Mandy Moore, Aisha Tyler, Connie Britton, Jesse Ferguson and pretty much every bit player from Pitch Perfect.

-I actually clapped this morning with GMA said that Shonda Rhimes decided this season of Scandal would be it’s last. Sadly, that’s not true.

-Speaking of Shondaland, Ellen Pompeo denies eating disorder and Botox rumours in the new issue of People.

-Here’s the first trailer for Marvel’s Legion series. It’s from the Fargo guys, so I’m intrigued.

-This deep-dive into Nancy’s fashion choices on Stranger Things is wonderful. (As is that show? Are you watching it? Surprise delight of the summer, especially now that Mr Robot and UnREAL are sophomore slumpin‘.)

-Also, this interview with the girl who plays Barb is great. #WeAreAllBarb

-The Flash actors are awash in racial missteps this week. First it was Grant Gustin, and now Ezra Miller created a “scene” about Darren Wilson. Sounds like it was well-intentioned but a bit tone-deaf.

-Even though I have no idea who this fashion YouTuber even is, I got lost in the #savemarinajoyce web last night. Twitter has basically constructed a giant yarn wall to figure this thing out.

Lindsay Lohan posted an Instagram message, saying this weekend’s social media posts were due to her “acting out of fear and sadness.” (Subtext: “Also, look how great I look in this bikini!”)

Jay Mohr has dropped his divorce petition from Nikki Cox — 6 days after filing it. Love lives, guys.

Paul Feig‘s next movie is going to be based on this Elle article about an insane real event in which supermodels were trapped in a Chilean snowstorm.

Kate McKinnon being interviewed by a tiny Ghostbuster is the goddamn best.

-Spike TV is moving forward with its Carpool Karaoke ripoff, and has tapped Craig Robinson to host. I love him, but this is so weird.

-The reviews are generally positive for the new Harry Potter play, which is good because the plot sounds terrible.

Martin Freeman and Adam Brody battle tech woes in the Startup trailer.

Samantha Bee got into a Twitter fight with her own network. Bless her.

-The TCAs kicked off today, starting with Netflix, who announced Black Mirror will be released Oct 21.

-The big Netflix news is that all six hours of the Gilmore Girls reboot will land on Black Friday: Nov 25 (aka – the last day I will step foot outside of my living room). Along with the new trailer, they showed critics the first two minutes of the premiere, and it’s apparently full of fast banter (and a Gywneth burn). Meanwhile, Amy Schumer has already responded to her shout-out in the trailer, saying she’d love Lorelai and isn’t that into water sports.

What’s Going On with Pitch Perfect 3?!

hailee steinfeld anna kendrick rebel wilson

-Guys, I’m starting to worry about Pitch Perfect 3. First there were rumblings that Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson were clashing (but that was from a very dubious source, so easy to dismiss). But then there were rumours about Kendrick and Elizabeth Banks clashing. And now Banks has dropped out of directing because of “scheduling conflicts.” What’s happening? I’d assumed these were the most easy to get along with peeps in Hollywood…

-It’s been a rough week for Instagram couples. First Taylor and Calvin, and now Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik have split.

Johnny Depp had a “cheerful and chatty” night last night in Denmark, and refused to go back inside the club when his bodyguard urged him to. Then he got cozy with a blond fan. That’s swell.

-It’s the most wonderful time of the year: we’re in the midst of a Mariah Carey press tour! Watch her primp for fan selfies (while the fans wait), and get interviewed in a bubble bath.

-Glee’s Mark Salling is set to surrender to authorities today in that child pornography case. He was spotted leaving a bank with a $100,000 check before heading to court.

-Ok, so the Rogue One reshoots might be worse than we originally thought. They involve 8 weeks, 32 sets and (gulp!) 40% of the film.

Zachary Levi says “It’s so fascinating, girls say chivalry is dead. And it’s like if it’s dead, you fucking killed it.”  Shut up, Chuck.

This makes me want to watch The World’s End again.

-This feels like information I didn’t need to know, Jessica Alba.

-I didn’t know I needed to see a video of David Beckham and Mario Lopez dancing at Eva Longoria’s wedding, and now I don’t know how I lived without it.

-Ouch! Dominic Purcell was injured on the set of the Prison Break reboot. As nasty as the photo looks, production isn’t being delayed. Gotta love his attitude! (“I got a free nose job.”)

Leonardo DiCaprio is “seriously dating” a model. Sure he is.

Matt Damon‘s MIT commencement speech is all kinds of charming.

-God, I love this article: “Why we’re terrified of fanfiction.” I don’t read fanfic (but I do follow a hilarious Tumblr that excerpts it, and I once found myself vigorously defending it on a plane when the guy next to me asked about the Rainbow Rowell book I was reading, and then proceeded to roll his eyes when I mentioned its fanfic angle). Still, I think the point of the article extends to the attitude a lot of female-leaning pop culture.

-Jeez, just when you thought the American Gods series couldn’t sound any better, they go and cast Gillian Anderson.

Drake‘s idea of hitting on someone is to make the heart shape with his hands and point to them. I expected nothing less.

Jena Malone pops up in the trailer for a 3-hour(!) cut of Batman v Superman as Barbara Gordon. Um, is she supposed to look like Felicity Smoak?

-The View fired another cohost.

-A female reboot of Ocean’s Eleven with Cate Blanchett and Sandra Bullock? Take my money now!!

-God, I can’t wait for the new season of UnREAL. Remember when summer TV was a wasteland?
