Ryan Gosling Talks Kids and Quarantine

Ryan Gosling made rare comments about his family in his new British GQ interview (which was basically a big ad for his new Tag Heuer campaign). “Our kids were at a difficult age not to be able to see other kids and interact with people, even though Eva [Mendes] and I did our best.” He added that to keep the kids entertained during lockdown, the couple did “more acting in quarantine than in our films. Tougher crowd, though.”

-In a new interview, Jamie Dornan reflected on 2021, in which his father passed way. “It’s a strange thing to end the year with all this positivity — with so much praise for Belfast and a lot of good talk about The Tourist. Because on many levels it’s been the worst year of my life, and the hardest.”

Tristan Thompson apologized to Khloé Kardashian via Instagram Stories (not even a feed post!) after a paternity test proved that he did indeed father a child with someone else when they were still dating.

Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashian are in the Bahamas together.

-The Omicron hits keep coming in Hollywood. Jimmy Fallon said he and his daughters tested positive before Christmas (right before he was set to appear on SNL) but had mild symptoms, while Seth Meyers cancelled the rest of his shows this week after testing positive. And Whoopi Goldberg is missing The View this week after testing positive.

Betty White‘s agent has responded to rumours. “People are saying her death was related to getting a booster shot three days earlier, but that is not true. She died of natural causes. Her death should not be politicized — that is not the life she lived.”

Jared Leto’s Morbius has been pushed yet again and will now hit theaters in April. (Dylan O’Brien‘s sarcastic, salty response to this news made my eyebrow raise.)

-Now that a settlement between Jeffrey Epstein and a woman who sued Prince Andrew for sexual abuse has come to light, the prince’s lawyers are trying to get the case dismissed. It is not going well for him.

Patton Oswalt took to social media to explain why he posted a photo with pal Dave Chappelle. “I’m an LGBTQ ally. I’m a loyal friend. There’s friction in those traits.”

-I can’t believe that the Harry Potter reunion special (which was very charming) accidentally used a childhood photo of Emma Roberts instead of Emma Watson.

Halle Berry didn’t really get married — but she clearly wanted us to think she did.

-I really enjoyed the spoiler-filled interview with the writers for Spider-Man: No Way Home.

-Meanwhile, Spider-Man: No Way Home is on its way to becoming the 10th biggest film in history at the domestic box office with a haul of $609.9 million so far.

-Character actor David Koechner (probably best known from The Office and Anchorman) was arrested on NYE for suspected DUI and hit-and-run.

-Oof. Dr. Dre has reportedly been ordered to pay his ex $100 million in their divorce settlement.

-I missed all the drama on Twitter last week but basically Adam McKay was saying that if you don’t like Don’t Look Up (and I didn’t) you don’t care about climate change? Did I get that right?

-If you want to watch a Netflix movie that’s actually good, I liked The Lost Daughter and am fully expecting Olivia Colman to nab a nomination for it.

-I also missed the news that Kanye West bought a house across the street from Kim Kardashian. That’s…really something.

Will Arnett will be replacing Armie Hammer in Taika Waititi’s soccer comedy, Next Goal Wins.

-I loved the Insecure finale — and this interview with Issa Rae about it. (I also loved that her  PR team told her they were aiming to get her a magazine cover every month to mark the final season, and they delivered.)

-On Christmas Day, Netflix gave us a gift: the announcement that Bridgerton will return in March.

-The new trailer for The Batman features our best look at Catwoman and The Riddler yet.

Harry Styles is Dashing on Dazed

harry styles dazed cover

Harry Styles covers the winter issue of Dazed and the photo shoot is worth a look. He talks about branching out into acting (“You’re trying to remove a lot of yourself and key into someone else. On the most basic level, it’s like being a kid and you’re playing pretend. I am not a very confrontational person, I think I’m pretty chill, so then when you have a character who is like that, it’s fun to explore”), and his new line of beauty products (“It’s starting with nail polish, because that was kind of the birth of what it was for. Me seeing a colour on a flower or a wallpaper or something and thinking, ‘Oh, I wanna put that on my nails.’ It was a fun little project, but during the pandemic, and when we eventually named it Pleasing, it felt like it was so much more than nail polish”).

-It’s Taylor Swift‘s world; we’re just living in it. On Friday night, she debuted her short film for “All Too Well” starring Stranger Things’ Sadie Sink and Teen Wolf’s Dylan O’Brien, and on SNL she performed an epic 10-minute version of the song with the film playing behind her. Then today, she dropped the music video for “I Bet You Think About Me“, which marks Blake Lively‘s directorial debut and stars (for some reason) Miles Teller.

Jake Gyllenhaal was spotted out with his sister Maggie this weekend, so Taylor fans are letting him live (barely).

-Is Shia LaBeouf about to become a father? Following allegations of abuse levelled against him by ex-girlfriend FKA twigs, he reportedly got back with his ex-wife, actress Mia Goth. And now it looks like they’re expecting.

Kristen Stewart is developing a gay ghost-hunting reality show with a friend, which she has described as “a paranormal romp in a queer space,” with elevated aesthetics. This sounds like the reality TV version of her film Personal Shopper and I’m in.

-Love this profile on Succession’s J. Smith-Cameron (and it explains her recent tweet about having “the greatest first date”).

-From divorce to weight loss, Adele didn’t hold back details in her tell-all interview with Oprah last night on CBS.

-There were a ton of celebs in Adele‘s hand-picked audience, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Drake, Selena Gomez, Tracee Ellis Ross, Ava DuVernay, Gayle King, Childish Gambino, Kris Jenner, Ellen DeGeneres, Nicole Richie, Seth Rogan, Tyler Perry, Aaron Paul and James Corden.

-Meanwhile, I don’t usually like public proposals but the one during her special was great, especially because the woman’s shock extended when she was told to sit down and they put her next to Lizzo and then Melissa McCarthy handed her a drink.

-Last week’s Disney+ Day was a mess. The biggest miss is how they put most of the trailers behind a paywall so they couldn’t be shared on social. (Also, the fact that they forgot to untag all the previously mentioned celebs in their Twitter thread made my social media manager heart hurt.) But some trailers have started to trickle out, including Oscar Isaac doing an awful accent in Moon Knight, and Iman Vellani making her debut as Ms. Marvel.

Serena and Venus Williams brought the drama to the premiere of King Richard (which I saw this weekend and am still undecided on.)

Lin-Manuel Miranda is promoting Tick Tick Boom (which I also saw this weekend and loved) and says he’s not worried about so-called “cancel culture.” “Once something has success, you’re not the underdog trying to make it happen anymore. You have to graduate past the mindset of, like, it’s a miracle I got something on the stage. Because now that is expected of me. And people go, ‘Yeah, but what about this? And what about this?’ And that’s fair! I do that with art I find lacking…It’s not cancellation. That’s having opinions. So I try to take it in that spirit.”

Mel Gibson is set to direct Lethan Weapon 5, because cancel culture doesn’t exist.

-The teaser trailer for Downton Abbey: A New Era has arrived.

Joaquin Phoenix plays a family man in the new trailer for Mike Mills’ C’mon C’mon.

-Here’s the trailer for Silent Night, starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Goode. I saw this at TIFF and it straddles a really hard line between dark comedy and massively depressing doomsday drama.

George Clooney Talks Family, Politics

george-clooney-thr

-I didn’t post about George Clooney’s THR cover story yesterday because I needed time to process it. This was a much more intimate look into his life than we’re used to (he invited the reporter to his Lake Como home for lunch and dinner, where he introduced him to Amal and the kids). They talk about his proposal (“I had a playlist with my Rosemary [Clooney] songs on and I was waiting for this song, ‘Why Shouldn’t I?'”), changing diapers (“I’m a very good diaper guy, which I didn’t know I would be”), playing basketball with Obama, how he bought his Lake Como house (he and Rande Gerber‘s motorcycles broke down in Italy and they were taken in by the homeowner), and his $200M tequila payday. Interestingly, he talks a lot about politics and racism and it feels like…positioning? I always believed him when he’s said in the past that he has no interest in a political career, but now I’m not so sure.

Evan Rachel Wood and bandmate Zach Villa have ended their engagement.

Taylor Swift kicks Andy Samberg through a wall and eats food off her shirt in an AT&T commercial.

Taylor Swift‘s music video director is accusing Beyoncé of copying “Bad Blood.” So, he never wants to work again, I guess?

-I like this article questioning why Kate Bosworth still gets invited to red carpets? (I’d ask the same of Jessica Alba.)

-All of W’s October covers are soo good! (Special shout-out to Chris Hemsworth for that chest, tho.)

Harvey Levin’s number two left TMZ to start his own gossip site, and he’s reportedly poaching TMZ’s best people.

-Speaking of big moves in celebrity media, Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter is stepping down.

-Has Hollywood gotten so bad with coming up with new ideas that they’ve resorted to stealing from Entourage plots?

-Any day we get not one, but two new Kelly Clarkson songs is a good day!

-I don’t really know much about Dylan O’Brien, but Vulture’s profile on how he had to fight to reclaim his career after a brutal accident is a great read.

-Also a great read: this piece about why Louis CK needs to break his silence on those assault rumours.

-Wow, the reviews for Top of the Lake: China Girl are so not good. Like, as in mentions of True Detective season 2 not good.

-I love my stupid superhero shows (as proven by my fangirling to the casts last weekend), but there is no show less equipped to take on an episode about Black Lives Matter than Arrow. Just don’t do it, guys.

Robert Pattinson‘s story of his first kiss is adorably awkward.

The Current War trailer depicts the 1880s battle between Thomas Edison (Benedict Cumberbatch) and George Westinghouse (Michael Shannon) for domination in electrical distribution.
