Zendaya Is InStyle’s Best Dressed

Zendaya wears an orange and pink dress on the cover of InStyle

Zendaya graces the cover of InStyle’s Best Dressed issue and talks about her evolving style. “When I was 14 and at my first movie premiere, my outfit was a bunch of stuff that I had from Target. And I thought I was fly. I felt cool. To this day, I think that’s really all that matters. Then you know you’re doing the right thing.” She also joins Timothée Chalamet on the cover of EW.

Olivia Rodrigo and Alanis Morrissette cover Rolling Stone’s Musicians on Musicians issue, and there was a lot of fangirling in both directions.

Olivia Wilde is promoting sustainability — by appearing nude and unretouched. Because that’s … sustainable? I don’t know but she looks great!

Emma Kenney, who played Debbie on Shameless, wasn’t sad to see leading lady Emmy Rossum leave the show in 2019, saying “the set became more of a positive place” after she left. “I remember pre her leaving, I’d go to set some days and I’d be very anxious having a scene with her because if she had a bad day, she made it a bad day for everybody.” I swear, as soon as a long running show ends, someone on the cast should be required to write a tell-all about all the on-set tensions. It would immediately become the best-selling genre in publishing.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s camp is clearing up rumours about Lilibet’s christening, saying “plans have not been finalized.”

Elizabeth Debicki and Dominic West recreate Diana and Charles’ tense trip to Italy in new photos from The Crown shoot. She is so perfectly cast, it emphasizes how he isn’t.

Julianna Margulies isn’t worried about any potential backlash she may receive portraying a lesbian on The Morning Show. “Who’s to say I haven’t had my own gay experiences? We’re making assumptions. I know there was some trepidation of ‘Will lesbian actresses be angry?’ And I can tell you I would never, ever be angry if a lesbian played a straight woman.”

Netflix has reinstated a trans software engineer who spoke out against Dave Chappelle‘s latest comedy special, along with two other employees. The streamer originally said they suspended them for trying to join a Zoom of an executive meeting, but later found that a director had shared the meeting link. “Netflix has reinstated me after finding that there was no ill-intent in my attending the QBR meeting,” she tweeted, adding, “I’m going to take a few days off to decompress and try to figure out where I’m at. At the very least, I feel vindicated.”

-Despite the reinstatement of three employees, a trans employee resource group at Netflix is moving ahead with plans for a walkout on Oct. 20 in response to Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos defense of the special.

Adele has confirmed that her new album will be called 30 and will drop Nov 19, calling it “my ride or die throughout the most turbulent period of my life. When I was writing it, it was my friend who came over with a bottle of wine and a takeaway to cheer me up. My wise friend who always gives the best advice.”

Raven-Symone says that when she was asked to join The View, they promised her the topics were moving away from political discussions. “I got catfished. I feel like I just got catfished. I thought I was going on a show, like Candace [Cameron Bure], where it was pop culture and fun and exciting and I got catfished, and I learned a good lesson.” Bure also said she was “pitched a completely different direction” than the show actually went.

-I haven’t really been following the drama created by ex-Little Mix member Jesy Nelson, but this is clearly offensive.

-Just two days before You drops its third season, Netflix has already renewed the Penn Badgley thriller for season 4.

-Speaking of You, Scott Speedman stars in the new season. Between this and his return to Grey’s Anatomy, my Ben Covington-loving heart is bursting!

-60,000 film and TV trade union workers will begin a national strike on Monday if an agreement can’t be reached with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.

J. Smith-Cameron says her role as Gerri on Succession was originally written for a man, but she sent in an audition tape anyway. Such a Gerri move!

-Meanwhile, I love that the show’s promo team is leaning into all the unlikely ships.

-The Succession cast appeared on Colbert’s show last week, and were all delightful.

Lady Gaga posed on a private jet wrapped in a boa made of fake hundred-dollar bills to mark her triumphant return to her Las Vegas residency. As Lucille Bluth would say, “Good for her.”

David Fincher’s secret Netflix project turned out to be VOIR, a new documentary series of visual essays celebrating cinema that he exec produced.

-The best thing about Ted Lasso’s success is Brett Goldstein‘s growing influence. Roy Kent himself will co-write a new Apple+ comedy series starring  Jason Segel.

-A new trailer dropped for  The Sex Lives of College Girls, a new HBO Max comedy from Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble.

-Here’s the trailer for The Beatles: Get Back, Disney+’s original docuseries, directed by Peter Jackson. The three-part special uses restored footage was gathered from the band’s January 1969 recording session and final live performance in London.

Paul Rudd charms his way into messing up Will Ferrell‘s life in new trailer for Apple+’s The Shrink Next Door.

-Here’s the trailer for The 355, starring Lupita Nyong’o, Jessica Chastain, Diane Kruger, Lin Mi Sheng and Penélope Cruz.

Zendaya and John David Washington’s Old-School Glam

zendaya john david washington

-I can’t help but wonder if Zendaya and John David Washington‘s W issue was supposed to be timed to the Oscar nominations — and Malcolm & Marie ended up with none. The photos sure are pretty though.

-I don’t think anyone guessed it’d be David Fincher’s Mank, a black and white Netflix movie about making Citizen Kane, to lead the Oscar nominations with 10 nods. (Also, despite leading the nominations — and being about screenwriting — Mank failed to score a screenplay nod.)  Weirdly, out of the eight Best Picture noms, the only ones I haven’t seen are the two easily accessible Netflix films.

-I’m shocked that Regina King didn’t make the Best Director cut for One Night in Miami. The movie didn’t score a Best Picture nod either, which is devastating.

-This is rare: Lakeith Stanfield was submitted as a lead actor candidate, but Oscar voters don’t have to follow those category suggestions — and he ended up getting more votes in the supporting actor category.

-Last night’s Grammys ceremony was so well-produced, it made the Golden Globes look even worse in retrospect.

-The show also gave us a new Beyonce meme so there’s that. Also, some more Harry Styles and Lizzo content, which is always welcome.

Tiffany Haddish found out she won a Grammy while filming Kids Say the Darnest Things and shared the clip.

-We’re going to need a tell-all just on what happened with Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez over the last three days.  There’s no way that outlets like People ran that story on Friday quoting multiple sources confirming their breakup without some serious insider knowledge. So how to explain the messy “we’re working through some things” correction/ statement on Saturday morning? Either one of them was angry enough on Friday to go to the media, or the way the subsequent break up stories were being spun didn’t sit well.

-The rumours about her getting close with new costar Lenny Kravitz are predictable and likely ridiculous but I’m into it.

-CBS put The Talk on a short hiatus while they investigate Sharon Osbourne’s comments. There’s also reports that she got Holly Robinson Peete fired from the show.

John Oliver devoted almost his entire show to demonstrate how Tucker Carlson is “the most prominent vessel in America for white supremacist talking points.”

Rita Ora didn’t show up to be a guest judge on Drag Race UK, so they replaced her with a mannequin. Think anyone noticed?

-I’m not sure I fully agree with it, but this is an interesting take on the WandaVision finale and the concept of “story karma.” Basically, viewers don’t necessarily want beloved characters who do evil to be punished — but we need to know that the show knows they *should* be punished.

Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth denied former costar Vanessa Marcil’s claims about how catty the set of Beverly Hills 90210 was.

-Bridgerton season 2 is officially filming!

Gwyneth Paltrow dismissed criticism for her covid remedies as “click-bait.” Yeah, because England’s National Health Service is really trying to plump their web traffic numbers.

Kyle Chandler is sporting an insane beard and he’s still adorable.

Joe Cornish says he and John Boyega have been bouncing around ideas for Attack the Block 2. I need it!

-Here’s the final trailer for Falcon & the Winter Soldier before it drops this weekend.

-Maybe it’s because I’m so desperate to go to the movies again, but I think the new Cruella trailer looks amazing.

-Speaking of going to the movies again, will the quick rollout of the vaccine in the US set In The Heights up for big box office success this summer?

Timothée Chalamet Interviews Zendaya for Elle

Zendaya-elle

-I have extreme sneaker envy over Zendaya’s Elle cover. She’s interviewed by Dune costar Timothée Chalamet so the article itself is as substantial as cotton candy, but the photo spread is excellent.

-I’m trying so hard to get back into The Crown because I love Gillian Anderson, but man, that season premiere felt like it was 47 hours. Emma Corrin is great as Diana though. She covers the new issue of British GQ.

-Relationship shocker: Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis have split after being engaged for more than 7 years.

-The People’s Choice Awards happened last night. The red carpet was more subdued than usual, but Tracee Ellis Ross and Demi Lovato still crushed it.

Jennifer Lopez won the Iconic Award, and Nicole Kidman and Renée Zellweger sent video tributes.

Jason Momoa was spotted shopping at Cosmos Records in Toronto, which is great and all but why the hell is he not wearing a mask while inside a store?!

-Man, Chris Evans is keeping us fed lately on social. He and Olympian gymnast Aly Raisman posted about hosting a play date for their rescue dogs.

Jennifer Garner listed the 10 things she can’t live without and I love that for the most part, they’re all inexpensive, normal people things.

Ryan Reynolds and It’s Always Sunny star Rob McEllhenney have acquired a Welsh soccer club. I see someone’s been watching Succession…

-The CW is doing a Jane Austen anthology series based on her books, which led to a Jezebel headline that I heartily endorse: “The Time Has Come to Let Lizzy Bennet Fuck”

-The Vampire Diaries’ Paul Wesley and Nina Dobrev had a very cute exchange about adopting Justin Bieber.

-After months and months of John Oliver lusting after him, Adam Driver appeared on his show to ask “What the f**k are you doing?” He (fake) ranted “This bit? This bit, this thing you’ve been doing that’s either sexual or violent? This strange, strange bit that for some reason you’ve pulled me into? What is it? When you first started doing it, it was easy for me to shrug it off. But then it kept going on, and on, and on, and on… Do you realize, over this past year, what you’ve asked me to do to you? ‘Collapse on your chest.’ ‘Tie your fingers in a square knot.’ ‘Step on your throat.’ ‘Shatter your knees.’ ‘Pull your heart out through your ear.’ What’s wrong with you? You realize we’re strangers, right? I don’t know you. And now, random people on the internet stan us, claiming that you thirsting over me is a mood.” I love them both so much.

David Fincher says he’s developing a miniseries about “cancel culture” and I just let out the longgggggest sigh.

Jack Black did the WAP dance on TikTok, to glowing reviews.

-Netflix’s Dash and Lily is an underrated holiday gem, if you’re looking for a quick binge.

Meryl Streep takes Candice Bergen, Dianne Wiest, and Lucas Hedges on a girls trip in the trailer for HBO Max’s Let Them All Talk.
