Are Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart Still Dating After All?

-Well, this is awkward — or is it? W’s just dropped their latest cover story, in which Riverdale costars Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart open up about love, the show, and what their future holds — just days after reports about the pair splitting up. They refused to be interviewed together when they talked to the mag in May (maybe seeing the writing on the wall?) but today they both promoted the cover on IG with posts that have their fans wondering if they really did split after all. Reinhart wrote “BREAKING: A reliable source has confirmed that none of you know shit” while at the very same moment Sprouse posted “UNPRECEDENTED: Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart consume the flesh of ‘reliable sources’ to fuel their bacchanalian sex cult.”

-The speculation continues that Diddy is dating Steve Harvey’s 22-year-old daughter. Not only is she half his age, she used to date his son! That’s gonna make for some awkward family BBQs…

-There’s more rumblings that Constance Wu is acting not so great, this time on the Hustlers press tour. (Although I don’t really get what the big deal is about her publicists allegedly asking publications to mention her first when talking about the film’s cast; she’s the topped billed actor in the credits so that’s not unheard of.)

–Jennifer Lopez celebrated her 50th birthday with a banger of a party. I love that her birthday dress was designed by Donatella Versace — the same person who designed the Grammy dress that launched JLo into the stratosphere. (Did you know that dress was the reason Google Images was created? True story.)

-Orange Is The New Black’s Taryn Manning insists she’s not suicidal after posting a troubling rant on Instagram. I’ve loved her since Weirdsville and want only good things for her.

–Nicole Kidman claims she’s embarrassed that hubby Keith Urban has a lyric about her that goes “She’s a maniac in the bed, but a brainiac in the head.” Surrrrrrre she is.

-Queer Eye’s Tan France has a web series called Dressing Funny, and the season finale featured Pete Davidson. (Which was good, but not as good as the episode that featured Tina Fey and Rachel Dratch.)

-This year marks a new low for female directors at the Venice Film Festival. Out of the 21 films in competition, only 2 are directed by women. (Meanwhile here at home, TIFF announced its gala lineup earlier this week and 50% of titles are directed or co-directed by women — a record number for the fest.)

-Hollywood is closely watching Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’s opening box office this weekend, considering it a test for audience’s appetite for original, adult-skewing Hollywood tentpoles amid franchises and sequels. Meh. I want more adult-driven films but I have zero desire to see this one — mostly because of reviews like this.

-This featurette for Where’d You Go, Bernadette really makes me want to see this movie — despite all the behind-the-scenes drama and delays.

-The Zombieland 2 trailer is here and it’s making me so happy! (I love that it’s called Zombieland: Double Tap.)

Arrow Bows Out with EW Cover

-I’ve given up on most of the Arrowverse shows, but good on EW for finally giving them a cover (the first monthly issue since they dropped the weekly format) in honor of Arrow’s final, shortened season.  Amell looks hella tired though.

–Tom Holland was spotted looking cozy with a girl who is NOT Zendaya and we’re all a little bit heartbroken.

-Ok, critics who’ve seen Veronica Mars’ new season keep warning about the “gutting” ending and I’m getting really worried. The latest is from Vulture: “It’s worth noting that some of the season’s concluding events will make some viewers, very, very, very mad. Really, incandescently mad.”

-Gossip Girl is coming back! An update just landed a straight-to-series order at Warner’s new streaming platform HBO Max, with Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage returning as EPs. It’ll be interesting to see how it’ll work with today’s social media. Will the new GG be more like a Diet Prada or Shade Room?

-I don’t even watch The Bachelorette but this recap is great.

-In advance of Friday’s trailer, the Cats movie released a featurette starring Taylor Swift, Idris Elba, Rebel Wilson and more. I’m still not entirely convinced this whole movie isn’t a prank. Between director Tom Hopper talking about how it’s a “timely story about diversity and inclusion” and James Corden saying “These are people but they’re cats. This is kind of blowing my mind,” it definitely feels like a prank.

-Time has named the 25 most influential people on the internet.

-This thread of Fleabag scenes makes me want to rewatch it even though I JUST DID.

–R. Kelly pleaded not guilty to new federal charges and has been denied bail. The singer faces 18 combined charges for alleged crimes against 10 victims.

-Prosecutors have dropped Kevin Spacey‘s criminal sexual assault case due to his accuser’s “unavailability.”

-HBO didn’t submit Gwendoline Christie for an Emmy so she paid the $225 fee, submitted herself and got a nomination, which is the most Brienne thing ever.

-Wait, Mr. Robot is still on TV??!

-Two months after NBC canceled A.P. Bio, the sitcom has been revived — on NBCUniversal’s forthcoming streaming service.

-The first trailer for Hustling, starring Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, Lili Reinhart, Julia Stiles, Lizzo and Cardi B, has arrived. Inject this directly into my eyeballs please!!! (Also, if you’ve never read The Cut article that this movie is based on, it’s a wild ride.)

 

Emilia Clarke Talks Fame and Famous Fans

-The Mother of Dragons herself Emilia Clarke covers the new issue of Allure. She talks about her desire to go unrecognized in public (“I move like a shark when I’m in public. Head down. I think I’ve got quite bad posture because of it, because I’m determined to lead a normal life”), and the time Beyonce introduced herself to say she was a fan (“I watched her face go, ‘Oh, no, I shouldn’t be talking to this crazy [woman], who is essentially crying in front of me.’ I think my inner monologue was, ‘Stop fucking it up,’ and I kept fucking it up.”).

-Last night’s Game of Thrones was fun from an action point of view, but garbage from a character arc point of view. Sure, there’s been foreshadowing that Daenerys has grown increasingly bloodthirsty (remember Meereen?), but foreshadowing shouldn’t replace character development. The buildup to her suddenly mowing down women and children was way, way too fast. Also feeling unearned was how Cersei ended up. And if you’re going to build up Jamie’s beautiful character arc for seasons just to throw it away in one episode, can there not be a line or two of dialogue about how he just couldn’t shake old habits/his true nature/whatever? The last two episodes have been character whiplash.

-They also had another coffee cup moment with Jamie’s gold hand suddenly going missing. How does a show with this budget keep messing up like this?!

-Wait, so the #FreeBritney movement wasn’t just a crazy conspiracy theory after all? Britney Spears requested that a judge end her conservatorship, and also accused her dad of placing her in a mental health facility against her will.

–Felicity Huffman wept as she pleaded guilty today. Prosecutors are recommending she’s sentenced to four months in prison.

-Ooh boy, Constance Wu really stepped in it this weekend. When her ABC sitcom Fresh Off The Boat was renewed on Friday, she tweeted “So upset right now that I’m literally crying. Ugh. Fuck.” And when someone tweeted at her about the renewal “Great news!” she responded “No it’s not.” She also commented on the show’s IG post about the renewal “dislike.” Then her Crazy Rich Asians costar Gemma Chan liked a since-deleted tweet from a reporter who claims Wu has a reputation of being rude and petty (Chan said it was a mistake). Wu followed up with a tweet that didn’t really clear anything up. It all seemed like TV is now beneath her. And the next day came the pièce de résistance: her long apology post. Look, there’s a whole different conversation to be had about how actresses need to appear grateful for any sort of success in a way that actors don’t, but this apology made the situation worse. She passive aggressively called the Fresh of the Boat experience/cast/crew “easy and pleasant” but not challenging, and then — AND THEN — she had the balls to end it with “It’s meaningful when you make the choice to believe women.” As if everyone was lying about what she said and there aren’t screenshots everywhere?! Co-opting the #MeToo language to deflect from a temper tantrum is gross. And I can’t imagine how the FOTB cast and crew feels right now.

-Speaking of actors who are torpedoing their careers by venting on social media instead of in their friend group text, ABC’s Stumptown, starring Cobie Smulders, recast the romantic lead played by Mark Webber and he has some choice words about it.

-This deleted Endgame footage between Tony and Peter is so soft!

-The Avengers: Endgame screenwriters say that Captain America is the father of Peggy Carter’s children. Wait…that doesn’t make any sense. This is the latest incident of the creators over-explaining the plot in ways that make it seem like they don’t understand the universe that’s been established.

-I don’t know much about makeup influencers on YouTube, but this Tati Westbrook and James Charles feud is bananas. (Here’s a good refresher if you’re an old like me.) Since it all went down a couple of days ago, she has gained 2.6 million subscribers and he has lost 2.4 million.

-This weekend saw networks quietly killing more shows, including Whiskey Cavalier and Proven Innocent.

-Netflix’s steamy new What If trailer pits Renée Zellweger against Jane Levy.
