Simu Liu Is Ready To Be a Superhero

Shang-Chi-star-Simu-Liu-EW-cover

-I love seeing Simu Liu on the cover of EW!

-A day after Britney Spears‘ longtime court-appointed attorney Sam Ingham made moves to step down, her mother filed a petition for permission to hire private counsel on behalf of her daughter. I really hope Britney gets a say in this one, but this sounds like a step in the right direction.

Gigi Hadid is asking publications and fan accounts to blur out her daughter’s face if they post papped photos. This seems fair and reasonable.

Scarlett Johansson and her husband, SNL’s Colin Jost, are reportedly expecting their first child together. I wondered why she didn’t go to the Black Widow premiere or any of the events in person.

Jessica Mulroney is accused of ripping off a design by British label Ralph and Russo. (She says it’s merely “inspired by” them, but it’s pretty damn close to theirs.)

-Good Girls’ renewal for a shortened final season was practically a done deal, so why did it fall apartChristina Hendricks, Mae Whitman and Retta all agreed to take pay cuts to return for a reduced eight-episode swan song, but it sounds like co-star Manny Montana (Rio) had money and scheduling issues. There’s also speculation that he had a strained working relationship with Hendricks. Though it’s very strange that the show couldn’t just write off a supporting character.

-The AV Club compiled a list of the best TV shows so far this year, and I’ve watch so little of them.

Tom Hardy is getting his first “story by” credit with Venom 2 after spending months over FaceTime brainstorming the plot. Screenwriter Kelly Marcel said. “This is new for him, to get credit, but it’s not new for him to be this involved. He’s absolutely 100 percent committed to everything that he does. He’s married to Venom. He loves this character. He’s very involved in what he thinks should happen…We spent months breaking the story together on FaceTime, riffing on ideas, seeing what worked, seeing what didn’t. Then I took everything we spoke about and holed up somewhere for three months quietly, knocking out a script.”

-The Boys launched a fake, Tucker Carlson-esque news show ahead of their new season.

-Good to see Kit Harington and Rose Leslie looking so happy (despite what some corners of GoT fandom seem to believe).

-I love Diane Kruger’s dress at Cannes, but man, the posture you’d have to maintain in that. I wouldn’t have it in me.

-The origins of The Kingsman movies are explored in the trailer for The Kings Man.

Sandra Oh Celebrates Korean Designers

sandra oh porter magazine

-This Sandra Oh fashion shoot in Porter magazine is fabulous and just what we need to kick off the weekend. (The interview is fire, too.)

Pete Davidson and Margaret Qualley have reportedly called it quits. But they didn’t even get around to regrettable matching tattoos yet!

This video of Paul Rudd demonstrating how he takes pictures of celebrities in a way that makes it look like a butt is hovering over them is possibly the best thing I’ve ever seen.

-Grace and Frankie stars Jane Fonda and Sam Waterston were arrested this afternoon in DC during a climate change protest.

-This documentary clip of Meghan Markle getting emotional about her negative press hit me right in the heart guts. “Thank you for asking, because not many people have asked if I’m ok.”

Christina Hendricks announced her split from husband Geoffrey Arend. He got 10 years of marriage out of her, which is about 9.5 more than most of us predicted.

-I love Paul Feig, and this interview cements it. He says of all of his films having female leads: “I was an only child. I grew up next to a family of eight kids, six of whom were girls. I liked the humour of joking around with my female friends because male humour devolves, eventually, into homophobia, punching and name-calling. I’d rather just have goofy fun.”

Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston recreated one of their most memorable scenes together from Friends, and it was all kinds of great.

-This lip sync video with Penn Badgley is incredibly hot. (I once saw him on a dance floor with Zoe Kravitz and I thought they were going to make the whole place spontaneously combust.)

-I finally got around to watching the Succession season finale. Are people seriously creating conspiracy theories about that end shot? Even Brian Cox doesn’t buy it. It was more like — game recognize game.

Jennifer Lopez was spotted wearing a wedding dress on the set of her new movie and … is it supposed to fit like that?

-Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will no longer be being released as planned in China because Quentin Tarantino refuses to trim scenes of violence or the one that featured Bruce Lee sparring with Brad Pitt’s stuntman character. Which — and I have never said this before and likely won’t again but — good for Quentin Tarantino.

-Here’s the trailer for Bombshell, starring Margot Robbie, Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman.

Tiffany Haddish Dishes on Taylor Swift’s Potluck Dinner Party

Tiffany Haddish continues to be the perfect talk show host. On today’s Ellen, she talked about getting invited to Taylor Swift‘s potluck dinner party. (“She can cook. Like the chicken was BOMB! And she made cornbread. BOMB!”)

Ed Sheeran says that Beyoncé changes her email address EVERY single week. Frankly, I’m more surprised that she uses email…

-Meanwhile, here’s the duet Ed and Beyonce released last week.

Demi Lovato is doing everything right. If I was famous, I too would cast Jessie Williams in my music video and fill it with hot sex scenes.

-The woman who played Gail on Dawson’s Creek keeps posting old behind-the-scenes pics from the show and I am NOT OK!

-TV did right by its female superheroes last week, and was all the better for it.

-The very best part of this weekend’s SNL was the “Welcome to Hell” song.

-Well, this is the best possible House Of Cards outcome: The 8-episode final season will star Robin Wright, without Kevin Spacey.  No one loses their job, and Wright gets to end the series as the HBIC.

-As soon as the Kevin Spacey news hit, a lot of attention shifted to director Bryan Singer. (Google their names together — rumours and settlement whispers about Singer have been floating around for years, with Spacey’s name often associated). So lots of eyebrows raised when production on Bohemian Rhapsody (the Freddie Mercury biopic starring Remi Malek) was halted on Friday because Singer failed to show up.  Now comes confirmation that he’s been officially fired from the movie, with THR reporting that Singer and Malek repeatedly clashed due to Singer’s repeated unexplained absences and culminated in a confrontation “which, while it did not become physical, did involve Singer throwing an object.”

-One of Danny Masterson‘s alleged sexual assault victims says a Netflix executive told her this weekend that higher-ups at the company don’t believe the four women who have accused Masterson of rape. Then the exec’s wife wrote the woman a truly terrible email — from her Disney corporate account! For a company as savvy as Netflix, they keep stepping in it with this one.

-A Penguin editor resigned after actress Charlyne Yi accused him of harassment, which he vigorously denied on his blog. So she responded with Tweeting out some serious receipts.

-Gross. Matt Lauer is seeking $30 million from NBC after firing over sexual misconduct allegations.

-This is a good question: why isn’t Hollywood rallying around Terry Crews?

Meek Mill’s request for a bail hearing has been denied. Seriously, how has this judge not been recused yet? This is nuts.

-It’s HILARIOUS that the New York Times is trying to explain what a shipper is.  I first heard the term when The X-Files was airing — the first time around. Also, I disagree with their assessment that shippers only like non-canon couples. This is a way better explainer.

Steven Soderberg his having some issues with his Godless series. First, critics seemed disheartened that it was marketed as a Wild West centered around two badass widows, but turned out to be a dude-focused Deadwood rip-off. Now he’s denying plagiarism claims.

Justin Theroux plays a sexually frustrated astronaut on this week’s At Home With Amy Sedaris. This seems like good content.

-I’ve never watched the TV show The Exorcist, but the fact that the showrunner responded like this to reaction of a gay kiss makes me want to:  “I saw a couple of homophobes on Twitter and my response is, ‘Good, f*ck you. I’m glad you didn’t like it, I’m glad it ruined the show for you. You shouldn’t have good things in your life.'”

-Avengers: Infinity War has become the most-viewed trailer in 24 hours of all time with 230 million views.

-I haven’t been excited by an NBC show for years, but this Good Girls trailer has Christina Hendricks, Retta and Mae Whitman robbing a grocery store so I’m in.

Christina Hendricks also shows up with Gillian Anderson in the Crooked House trailer.

Bill Hader is a world-class assassin in the first trailer for HBO’s Barry.

-Speaking of new HBO shows, True Blood and Six Feet Under creator Alan Ball‘s new series Here And Now has a trailer.

-The first Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom teaser features Bryce Dallas Howard in shoes that aren’t heels. So yay!
