Tom Holland and Zendaya’s Height Difference

–Tom Holland and Zendaya continue to be adorable together on the Spider-Man promo tour. They appeared together on the Graham Norton Show and talked about the difficulty of joint stunts due to their height difference.

-Meanwhile, Tom Holland says he’ll play Fred Astaire in a film, which sounds like perfect casting.

-After receiving two nominations for the 2022 Grammy Awards, Drake has withdrawn his nominations, and now are not visible on his artist page on the Grammys’ website. No one is really sure why, but he spoke out about The Weeknd’s snub last year.

-NY magazine’s profile on Succession star Jeremy Strong is an interesting read — mostly because everyone who’s quoted sounds like they don’t like him very much, which is unusual in a big profile like this. Usually you get some non-critical words from costars, even if it’s just about their talent or dedication if they don’t want to get into their personality. But it sounds like everyone thinks he’s a miserable presence on and off set. Is that why he’s so good in this role — because he’s just playing a version of himself?

-Meanwhile, I can’t quite believe that the ending of last night’s Succession is to believed, but if that turns out to be true, it’s gonna be a WILD finale this weekend.

-In his new GQ profile, Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus talks about accidentally revealing his cancer diagnosis on social media, renewing his faith, healing his old friendships, and being reminded of what makes life worth living.

–George Clooney says he once turned down $35 million for one day’s work on an airline ad over because of its country’s “questionable” practices.

–Charlie Cox, who played Daredevil on Marvel’s Netflix show, might transition over to the film universe, according to Kevin Feige.

-In a new Vulture essay, Colton Haynes says that before he came to Hollywood, he was confidently queer, but years of mixed messages in the industry changed that.

–Grimes wrote a breakup song about Elon Musk.

-For Vanity Fair, Mo Ryan talked at length with Jeff Garlin about his HR investigations on The Goldbergs, and power imbalances. It’s rare to have a celeb be confronted with these types of questions and not walk away (though there were times he clearly wanted to), but I don’t love how often he dismissed the allegations as “my silliness” or “my process.”

-This is a very good piece questioning why Hollywood is still hiring raging anti-Semite Mel Gibson?

–Chris Noth weighed in on Kim Cattrall’s rumoured feud with Sarah Jessica Parker — and it sounds like he’s on Team Parker. “I do know that I’m very close with SJ and [Cattrall’s] descriptions of her don’t even come close. I liked her, I thought she was marvelous in the show and some people move on for their own reasons. I don’t know what hers were. I just wish that whole thing had never happened because it was sad and uncomfortable…I just don’t like to see anyone talking down about SJ because she’s a target and people can be nasty. I feel very protective of her and I was not happy about that.”

-Its xmas pop song time: Ed Sheeran and Elton John released a new festive track and video, while John Legend unveiled his new holiday single.

–JLo released a new video for “On My Way.”

-Here’s the trailer for Peacock’s MacGruber series. Will Forte, Kristen Wiig and Ryan Phillippe star in the 8-episode revival.

Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana in Spencer

-The first poster for Kristen Stewart‘s Princess Diana biopic is goddamn art. Footage from the movie debuted at CinemaCon (where movie studios/distributors try to impress theatre owners/exhibitors) and word is that she’s “nailing Diana’s whispery tone of voice and accent.”

-CinemaCon attendees were also treated to new footage of Robert Pattinson in The Batman, and a teaser trailer for The Matrix: Resurrections, which shows Neo meeting Trinity in a coffee shop and asking “Have we met?”

-With every new article on how the staff at Jeopardy is unhappy with Mike Richards and how everything went down, I keep expecting him to be cut loose. But NYT’s latest story about it says Sony wants him to stay put. “In a show of defiance that has baffled Hollywood, Sony signaled it will keep Richards on as executive producer of Jeopardy & Wheel of Fortune. During a call with Jeopardy staff Monday, Sony’s top TV executive made clear the studio supported Richards.”

-A court has granted Megan Thee Stallion‘s request to release her remix of BTS’ “Butter” on Friday after her label tried to block it.

–Kanye West’s listening party tomorrow in Chicago for his upcoming album will admit up to 38,000 fans, but there’s no requirement for a COVID-19 test or proof of vaccination. What could possibly go wrong?

-Earlier this week in the UK, Tom Cruise needed somewhere to land his helicopter when he went to a meeting because the local airport was shut, so he asked a nearby family if he could use their field — and then repaid them by treating the kids to a helicopter ride. Upon hearing the news, James Corden told his own story about Cruise texting him about meeting for dinner and asking if he could “land his heli” in Corden’s tiny downtown yard.

–Spike Lee is getting heat for devoting a significant amount of time in his new four-part HBO documentary series to a 9/11 conspiracy theorist (which seems to fit with his own worldview, judging by his new NYT interview, in which he cites the widely debunked theory about steel not being able to melt at those temperatures.) He’s now re-editing the docuseries and asking people to “hold judgement until you see the final cut.”

–Mandy Patinkin responded to a fan’s question about The Princess Bride and my god, how his response made me cry.

-Speaking of celebs who made me cry today, here’s John Cena meeting a young fan who he inspired when his mom was going through cancer treatments.

–Madonna celebrated the 9th birthday of her adopted twin daughters, Stella and Estere, with a cute Instagram post.

-Ted Lasso stars Brett Goldstein and Juno Temple did an interview with the LA Times about why Roy and Keeley’s relationship works. (It works because it’s following a tried-and-true trope of romance novels: the grump who’s paired with the ray of sunshine).

-Meanwhile, here’s a clip from this week’s episode.

-Hulu says the Nine Perfect Strangers premiere was the most-watched Hulu original ever. I’ve seen the first three episodes and I basically want to fast-forward past everyone who isn’t Melissa McCarthy and Bobby Cannavale and pretend I’m watching a sequel to Spy.

–Hayley Williams and Josh Farro are now credited on Olivia Rodrigo‘s “good 4 u” after people kept pointing out the song’s similarities to Paramore’s “Misery Business”.

-The Flash will kick off Season 8 with a five-part special event that brings back fan-favorite heroes and villains from across the Arrowverse, including Arrow’s Kat McNamara and Neal McDonough, Batwoman’s Javicia Leslie, Legends’ Brandon Routh and Ryan Choi, Black Lightning’s Cress Williams, Supergirl’s Chyler Leigh, and The Flash alum Tom Cavanagh. It’s like a crossover except most of those people aren’t trying to concurrently film another show, so it won’t break the actors like usual (while at the same time offering the Flash regulars a bit of a break). I’m especially surprised by Routh’s inclusion as it seemed his departure from the Legends was less than amicable.

-Meanwhile for the Supergirl series finale, former cast members Mehcad Brooks, Chris Wood and Jeremy Jordan are coming back.

-Oh god, there’s rumbling again about NBC rebooting The Office. I loved this show, but please don’t.

–Jennifer Carpenter will appear in Showtime’s forthcoming Dexter revival as a regular — despite the fact that her character died in the series.

–Betty has been canceled after two seasons at HBO. Too bad. I haven’t gotten around to the latest season, but it was always a fun hang.

-The Nevermind baby is suing Kurt Cobain’s estate and the surviving members of Nirvana for child sexual exploitation.

-This is incredibly smart of Netflix — they’ve just announced their own sort of virtual ComicCon. TUDUM is a virtual fan event coming September 25, in which Netflix stars will introduce exclusive first looks of upcoming shows and films.

–Charlie Cox is an ex con who gets mixed up in a cartel in the trailer for AMC’s Kin.

–Grace Van Patten and Mia Goth star in the Mayday trailer.

Carey Mulligan and Emerald Fennell are Promising Young Women

-Christmas Day is going to be a bonanza of new content. We’ve got Bridgeton on Netflix, Wonder Woman 1984 on HBO Max and Promising Young Woman on video on demand. (I had no idea that writer-director of PYW is Emerald Fennell, who played Camilla on the most recent season of The Crown.) She and Carey Mulligan cover Variety and talk about making the most audacious, feminist movie of the year.

-Speaking of cover stories, this is a very good one from THR on the career implosion of Johnny Depp, a casualty of Hollywood’s sycophant culture in which his wild spending and substance abuse were rarely challenged. “He’s just never been told no for the past 35 years.” Some of the highlights: despite being fired from Fantastic Beasts after only shooting one scene, he’ll still be paid his full $16-million fee due to him having “a pay-or-play contract, which requires that he be fully compensated whether or not the film is made and even if it is recast,” production on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales had to be shut down for two weeks after Depp reportedly swallowed eight ecstasy pills, and his romantic partners allegedly include former co-stars Angelina Jolie, Marion Cotillard, and Keira Knightley.

–Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn cover the latest issue of People and talk about their 37-year relationship. “People who have been together for a long time, they experience something that only people who have been together for a long time can talk about and relate to. For people like us, the marriage certificate wasn’t going to create anything that otherwise we wouldn’t have.”

-This is a great piece on how 2020 was the year celebrities lost their shine. “With little else to do, celebrities have been showing their asses at every opportunity. Similarly, as we sit at home with nothing to do, we have been more than willing to hand their asses to them with newfound rigour.” (Dolly Parton is the only celeb I can think of who is ending the year with an even stronger reputation than she started it with.)

-Is EVERYONE going to be in the new Spider-Man movie? Charlie Cox is reportedly reprising his Netflix role as Daredevil in MCU’s Spider-Man 3.

-Disgraced Hillsong pastor Carl Lentz has entered treatment for anxiety, depression, and burnout.

-A True Blood reboot is in the works at HBO. This is weird, mostly because there are SO many buzzy supernatural books out there right now that they could adapt instead. When True Blood was good, it was good but I remember longgggg stretches where it was very, very bad.

–Shawn Mendes played Spill Your Guts with James Corden and had to eat blood and pork jelly to avoid picking between who he liked collaborating with more: Justin Bieber or Taylor Swift. He also refused to answer how much he’s been paid for his Armani endorsement, which led to him eating scorpion dusted plantains.

–Nicolas Cage enthusiastically gives an etymological lesson on the word “pussy” in the first trailer for Netflix’s History of Swear Words, debuting Jan 5.

–Natalie Portman appeared on Dax Shepard’s podcast discussed how “being sexualized as a child took away from my own sexuality because it made me afraid. It made me feel like the way I can be safe is to be like, ‘I’m conservative, and I’m serious, and you should respect me, and I’m smart and don’t look at me that way.'”

-Memoirs continue to be a cash cow for celebs. Amazon Studios is prepping a new docuseries about Jessica Simpson based on her memoir, while Mariah Carey says she’s in talks for a potential movie or TV series based on hers.

-Mariah also gave props to Vulture’s latest article on her pop perfection.

–Victoria Beckham gushed about son Brooklyn’s wife-to-be Nicola Peltz in a new interview. “They’re so happy. She’s wonderful, sweet, and kind. She’s such a lovely, warm woman. We couldn’t have asked for Brooklyn to meet a more adorable lady. We’re very, very happy. We love her, he’s so happy.”

–Jason Sudeikis talked about how his character on Ted Lasso was inspired by Robin Williams. I didn’t think I was going to like that show, but it ended up as one of my faves of the year.

-The Riverdale season 5 trailer proves the show is still as bonkers as ever.

-A married man is tricked into a murder scheme by a police detective in the trailer for Fatale, starring Michael Ealy and Hilary Swank.
