-The May Beauty issue of Harper’s Bazaar features Precious Lee (photographed by Renell Medrano) and Hailey Bieber (photographed by Amy Troost).

-In case you missed the Oscars last night (and judging by the ratings, many of you did), the biggest clips to watch are Daniel Kaluuya’s mom and sister reacting to the part of his speech where he said “Life’s incredible! My mom met my dad. They had sex. It’s amazing!”, Glenn Close knowing the moves to “Da Butt”, and Yuh-Jung Yoon starting her acceptance speech by addressing her presenter (and Minari producer) Brad Pitt with “Mr. Brad Pitt, finally. Nice to meet you. Where were you when we were filming in person?”

-The weirdest thing about the ceremony (besides it starting strong and then limping to the finish), was that they didn’t announce the Best Picture winner last like usual. Instead, that honour went to Best Actor — who turned out to be Anthony Hopkins, who didn’t show up. The theory is the producers assumed Chadwick Boseman would win posthumously and the show would end on an emotional high, but instead it came to an abrupt and anticlimactic finish that seemed to undercut Nomadland’s historic Best Picture win.

Hopkins released a belated acceptance speech that tribute to Boseman. Apparently, Olivia Colman was meant to accept Hopkins’ award for Best Actor if he won — and everyone is blaming Joaquin Phoenix for instead saying “we accept the award on his behalf” and shutting it down.

Another weird decision was to barely show any clips of the nominated films and performances. It felt like the wrong move, especially since most of these films have been barely seen by the general public. I’m sure if they had shown a clip when Sound of Metal won for Best Sound, for example, it would have intrigued people enough to seek it out.

-Fashion-wise, my pick for best dressed was Zendaya, with Regina King coming in a close second. 9-year-old Minari actor Alan Kim also got points for channeling David Rose.

Aaron Sorkin attended the Oscars with 80s model Paulina Porizkova, sparking dating rumours.

-The Daily Mail has the first photos of Pete Davidson with Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor. Looks like they’re bonding over groceries and hideous style.

-The finale for The Falcon and the Winter Solider was not great, huh?

-Ellen DeGeneres is mocking the NFT trend by trying to sell a selfie of her holding original artwork of a cat, which she’s calling “Woman With Stick Cat,” but you just know it’ll fetch buckets of money. At least she’s donating it to Chef José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen.

-Here’s the first trailer for Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers, adapted from the book by Big Little Lies author Liane Moriarty. It stars Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy, Bobby Cannavale, Manny Jacinto, Regina Hall and Michael Shannon.

-Netflix released the trailer for season three of Master of None, which focuses on Denise (Lena Waithe) and her relationship with Alicia (Naomi Ackie).

-The first trailer for Steven Spielberg’s remake of West Side Story, starring Ansel Elgort as Tony and Rachel Zegler as Maria, has arrived.

Taylor Swift Blasts Netflix

Taylor Swift called out Netflix’s Ginny & Georgia for what she called a “lazy, deeply sexist” and “horse shit” joke they made about her during season finale of the show. Not to defend the show (which is a mess), but the way that joke was positioned, we’re *supposed* to think it was cruel/below the belt, not that the show was endorsing the sentiment. But I’m sure Netflix appreciates the sudden free publicity…

-Last night everyone was supposed to be talking about the Golden Globes, but then CBS dropped two promos of Harry and Meghan‘s chat with Oprah, which stole the spotlight. Leading with O’s “Were you silent or were you SILENCED?” surely helped get it trending. And Meghan didn’t say a word in either trailer, making it harder for the British press to pre-emptively attack her.

-Meanwhile, The Golden Globes were a slog. Considering how smoothly both the Emmys and the Daytime Emmys were, I was surprised how clunky this was.

Taylor Simone Ledward’s acceptance of late husband Chadwick Boseman‘s was the show’s emotional highlight.

Fashion-wise, I loved Anna Taylor-Joy, Regina King and Cynthia Erivo.

Jason Sudeikis wore a hoodie to support his sister’s dance studio, and it’s now sold out.

-A lot criticism surrounding Wandavision is about how the Avengers movies didn’t have enough Wanda in them for the audience to be invested in her for her own show, but the last episode went back in time to make emotional sense of the character.

Ellen Pompeo insists they still don’t know if this season of Grey’s Anatomy will be its last. “We honestly have not decided. We’re really trying to figure it out right now.”

George Clooney’s Beauty Secret: The Flowbee

George Clooney‘s CBS This Morning interview is generating lots of headlines for the part where he talks about cutting his hair with a Flowbee (“My haircuts take, literally, two minutes”), but the full 8-minute interview is full of gems.  He remembers discovering he was having twins (“I was up for one! I’m like, ‘I’m old.’ All of a sudden it’s two and I literally … it’s hard to get me to not talk and I just stood there for like 10 minutes, just staring at this piece of paper going, ‘What, two?!’ “) and talked about being in lockdown at home (“It’s been a while since I did 15 loads of laundry in a day and mopped floors and all these doors over here I stained. I always say I felt like my mother in 1964, because she had two kids and no help. I don’t know how she did it now. I have more sympathy for her now than ever”).

Cardi B is apologizing after tweeting that she had 37 people over for Thanksgiving while most people couldn’t even see their family. She says she felt safe because she gets tested 4 times a week because of work. At what point are celebs going to realize preventive testing doesn’t work? You can have it for days before it shows up on the test (and tests aren’t foolproof anyway). I don’t love shaming individuals when I think it’s mostly the fault of the government/public health for not making things clearer, but for the love of god, stop broadcasting your protocol-breaking shenanigans all over social media.

-Chef David Chang became the first celebrity to win $1 million on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

Felicity Huffman has landed her first TV role since completing her prison sentence.

-Welp. The finale for The Undoing was not good, prioritizing red herrings over characters who act in any way that makes sense. A more interesting script would have had the person who gave the case-turning testimony have to reckon with the fact that they were so blind to what was happening under their nose, but instead we got a really underwhelming car chase. I really liked this take: “No one likes to feel that they have been duped or that they wasted their time, even if eliciting that feeling serves a broader storytelling point, and that’s basically what this series did.”

-Speaking of 6-episode limited mystery series, The Flight Attendant is FUN. The first three episodes dropping on Crave last week; the next three are this week.  I didn’t know Kaley Cuoco had this in her but she’s so, so good.
