–BTS hit another mainstream milestone by covering Variety’s Grammy issue. There’s also a cute behind the scenes video from the shoot.

-I’m pretty sure all the Tracee Ellis Ross and Harry Styles dating rumours came about just because they had good chemistry together on a talk show once (mostly because Tracee was trying to pick up the slack from the other guest — Kendall Jenner), but I don’t hate it.

-The MCU has found its Ms. Marvel: Markham, Ont native Iman Vellani. The 18-year-old will star in the new Disney+ series.

–Angelina Jolie reportedly insisted Brad Pitt quarantine for two-weeks after returning from their Chateau in France with Nicole Poturalski. Oh, so she asked him to do what he’s actually required to after international travel? What a monster.

-Everyone who got bad vibes from Max Ehrich when he was engaged to Demi Lovato seems justified these days. He posted IG messages implying Lovato was being abused and added “I’ll be posting on here for updates every few hours with pics… In case people try to ‘Jeffrey Epstein’ me.”

–Tony Lanez’s team allegedly sent several emails to media outlets pretending to be members of Megan Thee Stallion’s record label, 300 Entertainment, in order to “campaign press” on his behalf. The email contained doctored texts and a link to a report that claimed that Megan did not want to testify against Lanez about her shooting. In a statement, Megan’s lawyer said, “We have been made aware of manipulated text messages and invented email accounts that have been disseminated to the media in a calculated attempt to peddle a false narrative”

–Cardi B spent last night’s debate on Instagram fact-checking the president’s comments.

-I don’t believe anything from this website, but I really really don’t believe in an Enola Holmes spinoff starring Henry Cavill. The movie was fine but he was so very miscast. When has Sherlock Holmes ever been a hunky, empathetic hero?

-Production has paused on Riverdale and Supergirl due to a shortage of COVID-19 testing capacity in Vancouver. “This is a situation we are continuing to monitor hour by hour and day by day,” one studios said.

–Ethan Hawke is getting raves for his performance in the new miniseries The Good Lord Bird.

-Now John Cleese is defending J.K. Rowling.

-Here’s the first trailer for Lee Isaac Chung’s critically adored Sundance hit, Minari, a sweeping epic starring Steven Yeun about a Korean family putting down roots in the rugged American heartland.

–Gucci’s new ad campaign features Anjelica Huston, Jodie Turner-Smith and Florence Welch. And it’s soundtracked by a Mazzy Star song! I immediately want to buy whatever perfume they’re selling.

–Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix welcomed their first child together — a boy they named River in honor of Phoenix’s brother, the famous actor who died in 1993. I have to go cry forever.

-Another surprise celeb baby arrival: Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski welcomed a son.

-In other baby news, Game of Thrones stars Kit Harrington and Rose Leslie are expecting.

-The Demi Lovato/Max Ehrich split is getting messy messier. She’s reportedly embarrassed after he claimed on social media that he found out about their breakup through the media and that she’s allowing him to be “bullied” by her fans.

–Gwyneth Paltrow celebrated her 48th birthday by posting a nude photo on Instagram and frankly, why not?

-In an interview with Empire, Sienna Miller revealed that Chadwick Boseman had taken a cut on his salary for 21 Bridges in order to fix the salary disparity she was facing. He told her: “You’re getting paid what you deserve, and what you’re worth.”

–Eddie Redmayne (who once problematically played a trans woman) tries to have it both ways in a new interview: both decrying the hatred trans people get but jumping to J.K. Rowling’s defense.  “Though he disagreed with Rowling’s comments on the issue, he was alarmed by the ‘vitriol’ hurled at her on social media, which he termed ‘absolutely disgusting’, and which prompted him to write her a private note.”  I mean, if she didn’t want any vitriol directed her way, she could always stop baiting the entire internet?

-All heroes let you down eventually. It’s Sex Pistols’ John Lydon’s turn today.

-It’s wild to me that Katherine McPhee has been courting her gay fanbase for years, and yet is a Trump supporter.

-Meanwhile, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson endorsed Biden and the replies to his tweet are so, so disturbing. (Of course, many of them are bots.)

-In Mariah Carey‘s new book, she says she secretly recorded a grunge rock album in the ’90s. She’s since tweeted that she’s on “a quest to unearth the version of this album with my lead vocals and will not stop until we find it.”

-I kind of like the new pop-punky Machine Gun Kelly and Halsey song — which makes me hate myself a little.

-The fact that Beth Grant keeps replying to this tweet about how she’s been in everything and giving tidbits about each acting role is the wholesome Twitter content I need right now.

–James Cameron says Avatar 2 is “100% done” filming and Avatar 3 is “95% complete” because they’ve been shooting in New Zealand. “We’re able to operate. We’re able to shoot and have a more or less normal life here. We were very fortunate, so I don’t see any roadblocks to us getting the picture finished, getting both pictures finished.” Sure, but do we believe him?

-The World’s A Little Blurry, the new documentary on Billie Eilish, is set to hit theaters and Apple TV Plus early next year.

-Julie and the Phantoms actor Jeremy Shada and his wife are selling t-shirts based on fan art and it all seems quite shady. There are whole think pieces to be written on fandoms who produce creative works and how their free labour is used.

-13 Reasons Why star Anne Winters really, really wants to play Madonna in the new biopic and doesn’t care who knows. This seems so thirsty to me but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do these days.

-The BTS boys just became millionaires today (and their producer became a billionaire) thanks to an impressive initial public offering of their label Big Hit Entertainment.

-I’m going to incorporate Rihanna’s “but continue” rebuttal into every terrible work email I have to reply to from now on.

-Gilmore Girls costars Keiko Agena (Lane Kim) and Adam Brody (Dave Rygalski) came together on Instagram Live to discuss the ways in which they’re getting involved ahead of the election.

-YouTube beauty star Jeffree Star reportedly took somewhere between $350,000 to $1 million in PPP loans designed to help small business owners during covid.

–Richard Jenkins plays a fast food employee who must train a new person before he retires in the trailer for The Last Shift.

Megan Thee Stallion Says Tory Lanez Shot Her

-On a new IG live, Megan Thee Stallion confirmed that Tory Lanez shot her. “You shot me. And you got your publicists and your people going to these blogs and lying and shit. Stop lying. Why lie? I don’t understand. I tried to keep the situation off the internet, but you dragging it.”

-Meanwhile, JoJo removed Lanez from the upcoming deluxe edition of her album Good to Know.

–Lori Loughlin was sentenced today to two months of prison, two years of supervised release, 100 hours of community service and a $150,000 fine. Her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, was sentenced to five months in prison, two years of supervised release, 250 hours of community service and a $250,000 fine.

-Congrats to Rachel McAdams, who is pregnant with her second child.

-The first reviews for Tenet are very positive (though critics keep using words like “confounding” and “head-scratching”). I like this piece from a critic on the struggles of covering a movie that’s trying to get people back in theaters in the U.S. during a pandemic when health experts say it’s the last place to be.

–BTS has made history with their new video “Dynamite,” which dropped at midnight and surpassed 10 million views on Youtube in just 20 minutes.

-Golden State Killer James DeAngelo sentenced to life in prison. I just finished HBO’s documentary series I’ll Be Gone in the Dark and I wish Michelle McNamara was alive to see this day. Her widow, Patton Oswalt, tweeted “The insect gets none of my headspace today. I’m thinking of the victims, and the survivors, and the witnesses and crusaders and investigators. And of course Michelle. Go forward in peace, all of you.”

-The X-Files cast reunited for a charity music video and it’s delightful how many one-off guest stars they pulled in.

-Tonight’s Fast Times at Richmond High live read, which was set to feature Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, has been postponed due to “insurmountable” technical issues.

–Aniston posted a cute video of getting her butt handed to her at pool by Courteney Cox.

–Jake Johnson says there’s a chance of a New Girl reunion and I’m here for it.

-Cuties, a Sundance favourite that is now on Netflix, is from a French Senegalese Black woman who is pulls from her own experiences as an immigrant and condemns the hyper-sexualization of preadolescent girls. However, the way Netflix marketed the movie (with a risqué poster and description) has led to calls for a boycott of the film. Netflix has since apologized, and people like Tessa Thompson are standing up for the movie, but it looks like the damage is done.

–Taylor Swift started a frenzy at a multitude of indie record stores across America when shipments of signed Folklore CDs “just showed up” on their doorsteps. “Phones rang off the hook in every store. Folks took road trips to try to get one.”

-WarnerMedia has reportedly launched an investigation into the production of Justice League based on Ray Fisher‘s allegations of misconduct against Joss Whedon.

–Pharrell Williams dropped a new video for “Entrepreneur ft. Jay Z”. That line where Jay criticizes Black Twitter can go though.

-Also, Jay Z was spotted hanging out with Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey in the Hamptons yesterday.

–Netflix has cancelled The Society and I’m Not Ok With This due to covid-related issues.

–Chi Chi DeVayne, who was a fan favorite on RuPaul’s Drag Race and Drag Race All Stars, has died. The performer was recently hospitalized for the second time in as many months after being diagnosed with pneumonia.

-I like this piece on how cancel culture, for lack of a better term, is good. I think there increasingly has to be distinctions made between celebrities who face consequences for doing and saying bad things, and normal people who get fired for viral videos, but when it comes to Hollywood, yeah I think this take is about right.

-Speaking of good takes, I like this one about what the Ana de Armas Updates account tells us about modern fandom.

–Diane Lane and Kevin Costner reunite for the Let Him Go trailer, playing a couple trying to get their grandson away from his abusive stepdad. Lesley Manville steals this trailer.
