Shawn Mendes Teases Fans with Shower Scene

-The trailer for the new Shawn Mendes doc is out and it starts with him in the shower, which means Netflix has a lock on what his fans wanna see.

–Dominic West is reportedly in talks to play Prince Charles in the fifth and sixth seasons of The Crown, which is kind of delicious considering the past few weeks.

–Mark Ruffalo has jumped to Chris Pratt’s defense, calling him “not overtly political.”

–Kim Kardashian sat down with David Letterman for his Netfix show and offered a clue as to why the family is ending their reality series: “Realistically, we can post something on social media and make more than we do a whole season.” Gawd, that’s depressing.

-After postponing their wedding twice, Taraji P. Henson and fiancé Kelvin Hayden have decided to split.

-Teen Wolf’s Tyler Posey used his OnlyFans account to confirm he’s hooked up with guys. Didn’t he already do this, or am I just getting it confused with all the blind items?

-BIPOC members of the cast of Glow shared a letter they sent to Netflix before the show was cancelled, asking the creators asking for better representation.

-Netflix once again proves that you shouldn’t fall in love with their shows unless you like heartbreak — they canceled Away, starring Hilary Swank and Josh Charles. I’m surprised by this one; it felt like a show that critics didn’t love or talk about but was drawing in the type of quietly loyal audience that watches CBS procedurals.

-Netflix confirmed that Dawson’s Creek won’t have its iconic theme song when it hits the streaming giant’s library next month, instead replaced with Jann Arden’s “Run Like Mad.” Good for her!

-I know this is sounding like a broken record, but my god, what’s going on with Britney Spears’ Instagram?

–Harvey Weinstein’s request for a bail release pending appeal has been denied, reportedly due to his overwhelming amount of resources and motive to flee the country.

–Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy are reprising their Hocus Pocus roles for a virtual reunion on Oct 30. Tickets are $10 to support the New York Restoration Project and special guests will include Meryl Streep, Jennifer Hudson, Glenn Close, Elvira, Billy Crystal, Billy Eichner, Adam Lambert, Thora Birch, Sarah Silverman, Martin Short and more.

-Warner Bros. is eager to release Wonder Woman 1984 in 2020, but there likely won’t be decision about its debut for at least another few weeks as movie theatres in parts of New York are reopening. I still don’t think it’s gonna happen this year.

–Jake Gyllenhaal is teaming up with Canadian director Denis Villeneuve for a new HBO limited series. (I still haven’t forgiven either of them for the ending of their last project together, Enemy.)

–Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fischer hosted a Borat screening that was attended by Katy Perry, Josh Gad and Ariana Grande.

-Aw man, Jeff Bridges announced on Twitter last night that he has lymphoma.

-We could all use a little good news and Zendaya is delivering: two special episodes of Euphoria are coming to HBO in December.

–This voting PSA from the Succession cast made me really miss Succession!

–Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis‘ gay romcom is coming to Hulu, which sucks for us Canadians.

–Viola Davis plays legendary blues singer Ma Rainey alongside Chadwick Boseman in his last role in the trailer for Netflix’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

 

Kate Winslet On This Year’s Uncertain Awards Season

–Kate Winslet, back in the awards race with same-sex romance Ammonite, covers THR and talks about choreographing her own sex scenes with Saoirse Ronan (“[Director] Francis [Lee] was naturally very nervous. And I just said to him, ‘Listen, let us work it out.’ And we did. ‘We’ll start here. We’ll do this with the kissing, boobs, you go down there, then you do this, then you climb up here.’ I mean, we marked out the beats of the scene so that we were anchored in something that just supported the narrative. I felt the proudest I’ve ever felt doing a love scene on Ammonite. And I felt by far the least self-conscious”) and attending this year’s TIFF (“I can be barefoot and I don’t have to put a dress on. –Justin and Hailey Bieber appear to have missed the memo on L.A.’s no parties order.

–Brad Pitt is reportedly dating Nicole Poturalski, a German model. They were spotted together in France. There’s lots of chatter about how she looks like Angelina Jolie, but looking at her Instagram I’m not sure I see it.

Jamie Lynn Spears, who was selected as trustee of the pop superstar’s estate two years ago, is seeking more control over the performer’s fortune. Meanwhile, Spears’ father submitted additional documentation to continue the conservatorship, including checking a box that indicates the singer is unable handle her finances.

-My goodness. More powerful Hollywood men have been named as having been involved with the actress Charlotte Kirk.

–Thandie Newton said she was “surprised by the appreciation” she got after speaking candidly about what it’s like working with Tom Cruise. “I have nothing to lose because I could just then not get hired, which is kind of normal for people in my generation anyway. So I’ve got nothing to lose and I would rather go out using this moment.”

–Gabrielle Union and Kirsten Dunst reunited virtually with director Peyton Reed and writer Jessica Bendinger to celebrate the 20 year anniversary of Bring It On.

–Louis C.K. donated to Joe Biden’s campaign; Biden gave it back.

–Halle Berry has dropped her lawyer and is now representing herself in her divorce proceedings with Olivier Martinez. This seems…misguided.

-Alias costar Kevin Weisman posted some very cute old photos of the cast have a pre-awards show party in 2002.

-It’s really interesting to see how US-based movie publications are handling film reviews these days. Collider just posted: “To publish reviews without any awareness of the current landscape can be seen as an implicit endorsement of attending the theater. That would be putting our readership’s health in jeopardy, and we don’t want to do that.”

-Meanwhile, Variety interviewed Christopher Nolan stans who are taking flights just to see Tenet.

-I really like this idea of using empty major league baseball fields to screen movies, but Warner Bros and or Nolan won’t even let Tenet screen at drive-ins in cities where theatres are still closed, so good luck with that.

-If you want to see the Dune trailer, you actually have to go to the movies. It’s currently only showing in front of Tenet, but isn’t expected to premiere online until Sept 9. Seriously, what is Warner Bros doing?!?

-Good news for One Day at a Time fans. The series, which was picked up by Pop after being cancelled on Netflix, will now also air on CBS.

-Altered Carbon has been canceled by Netflix after — you guessed it! — two seasons. They’re not even pretending their shows will last longer than 2-3 seasons anymore, huh?

-Stranger Things’ kiddo Noah Schnapp denies using the n-word while singing along to a song.

-I caught up on I May Destroy You’s season finale (which aired on HBO on Monday but a few months ago in the UK) and oh my god. If you have HBO or Crave, it’s so worth watching. It’s been a while since a show got me so jazzed that I immediately looked up all the think pieces as soon as it ended. No wonder celebrities like Janelle Monae, Seth Rogen, Adele, and Jane Fonda have been raving about it.

-I also appreciated this piece on I May Destroy You’s similarities with HBO’s other devastating new show about the power of narrative, I’ll Be Gone In the Dark.

-A shy teen makes music with a band of ghosts in the trailer for Netflix’s new musical Julie and the Phantoms.

-Quarantine comedies are the latest thing. HBO’s Coastal Elites features Sarah Paulson, Bette Midler, Kaitlyn Dever, Dan Levy and Issa Rae. Meanwhile, a bunch of familiar faces show up in the trailer for Netflix’s remotely shot anthology series Social Distance.

-Here’s the trailer for Sundance hit The Forty-Year-Old Version. Writer, director and actress Radha Blank won the Vanguard Award for her comedy about a once-promising playwright who turns to hip-hop.

Lizzo Is an Entertainer of the Year

–EW’s Entertainers of the Year include Lizzo, Awkwafina, RenĂ©e Zellweger, Regina King, Taika Waititi and the cast of Succession.  I love how everyone is lusting over the Jeremy Strong pic. I don’t see it as Kendall but his real life photo shoots bring a whole other energy. Also, Sarah Snook talks in her adorable real accent in the video and she so wonderfully perky and un-Shiv-like.

-Time also named Lizzo the entertainer of the year. My Spotify Wrapped rankings would agree.

-Well, it now makes more sense why Justin Timberlake broke his silence on the affair rumours long after the story had died down. According to Us Weekly, “Jessica encouraged Justin to put out his statement on Instagram because she felt embarrassed by his actions and wanted him to take accountability.” People is quoting a source who says Jessica will stand by her man: “Obviously Justin drank too much this time, but Jessica believes he didn’t cheat on her. What’s most important to her in life is her family and being the best mom to Silas. She’ll never break up her family over something like this.”

-Meanwhile, Bette Midler wants Justin Timberlake to publicly apologize to Janet Jackson. Don’t we all?

-In the Hollywood Reporter, Reese Witherspoon addresses the backlash over her sizeable paycheque for Apple’s The Morning Show. “I guarantee these companies are real smart, and if they agree to pay us, they’re doing it for a reason. They probably had a lot of lawyers and a lot of business people decide on that number because they knew that they were going to make more than that back. Does it bother people when Kobe Bryant or LeBron James make their contract?”

-The SAG nominations were announced today. It’s insane that Knives Out isn’t nominated for ensemble cast, but good on the cast of Parasite for making the cut (I finally saw that movie and holy s%$# it’s amazing).

–Harvey Weinstein and his former studio have a tentative $25 million deal with his accusers. Weinstein, accused of offenses ranging from sexual harassment to rape, won’t have to apologize, admit wrongdoing or pay his own money.

-How did I miss all the GIFs of Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s penis this week? (NSFW, obvs)

-As we recover from the first half of the CW crossover (which just isn’t as fun as they usually are, right?) here’s the first trailer for the CW’s newest superhero show Stargirl, starring Luke Wilson.

-Look, I don’t even go here but why is the Star Wars cast shading Rian Johnson and The Last Jedi? He did what he had to do.

-Holy cow the trailer for Promising Young Woman, starring Carey Mulligan, looks amazing! It costars Connie Britton, Molly Shannon, Alison Brie, Adam Brody and Max Greenfield.
