-People seem to be loving the new season of Serial. The podcast broke records with 3 million downloads in its first week.

-I really liked this appreciation of The Good Place’s podcast. I’ve only listened to one so far, but it had the 2nd AD on and I learned so much about what assistant directors do. (I also learned that Jason Mantzoukas ad-libbed “Maximum Derek!”, which seems like valuable info.)

-This is some bullshit: Kelly Marie Tran  erased all of her Instagram posts following months of harassment by whiny Star Wars crybabies. How can anyone be mean to her?! She is a literal ball of sunshine! She’s like a rare unicorn I want to pet! Fanboys are the goddamn worst.

-The news about Kate Spade is gutting. Celebrities are paying tribute to her on Twitter.

-ABC’s Roseanne spinoff is inching closer to reality. Sources say that the network is knee-deep in talks with exec producers for a new incarnation of the multicamera comedy, and its likely the entire cast – sans star Roseanne Barr – and creative team and crew would return. But since Barr created the character, there’s a good chance she’ll still get paid if they go ahead with a spinoff. They should just scrap the whole concept and bring everyone back with an entirely new premise.

Ask what women are being paid, and say: ‘If she’s not paid the same as the men, I’m not doing it.'”

-Most of the TV cancellations and renewals have been announced (though NBC still hasn’t pulled the trigger on Timeless, despite Kelly Clarkson and Leslie Jones caping for it). Agents of Shield was renewed, Gotham is coming back for a final 13 episodes (which will take them to the 100-episode mark needed for syndication), Lethal Weapon will return with Seann William Scott replacing Clayne Crawford, and CBS dropped Kevin Can Wait and Scorpion. Perhaps most surprising were the seemingly slam-dunk pilots that weren’t picked up, including Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba‘s Bad Boys spinoff,  Hannah Simone‘s Greatest American Hero reboot, and Katie Holmes‘ FBI drama.

-This is a good explainer on why Fox was particularly brutal with the axe this season (TL;DR: NFL, a desire for multicam sitcoms, lack of show ownership, and the Disney deal.)

-Fox also announced they have no more plans for The X Files. Good on Gillian Anderson for hitting up Twitter and refusing to shoulder the blame for the show not going forward.
