Arrow Goes Back in Time

-The trailer for the shortened, final season of Arrow has hooked me. He’s sent back in time to relieve moments from the pilot episode? Yes, please.

-Meanwhile, the prospective Arrow spinoff seems like a bad idea. The girl who plays Mia is great, but does anyone want to watch a show featuring Laurel and Dinah? Anyone? Bueller? (Though assuming it’s set 20 years in the future, my guess is those two won’t be as big of a part of it as the next gen kids, and they’re just being used to promote it because the actresses are more established names.)

-Speaking of the Arrowverse, Smallville’s Micheal Rosenbaum explained why he turned down the CW crossover — and he doesn’t come off great. This thing is shrouded in secrecy; he couldn’t possibly have expected to see a script before signing on. And there are 10,000 guest stars in this thing alongside the main cast so what type of paycheck did he think he’d get? I saw this guy at a panel a few weeks ago and none of this surprises me.

-Yikes: Demi Moore says she discovered Ashton Kutcher was cheating on her from a Google Alert. (This is why I limit my Google Alerts to news about Idris Elba and videos of dogs being reunited with their owners…)

-Meanwhile, when asked about her current relationship with Kutcher in the wake of her book release, Moore said “It’s friendly. But we’re not…hanging out.”

–Miley Cyrus is single again. Us Weekly is reporting that she and Kaitlynn Carter are dunzo.

-Oh boy. Joaquin Phoenix was asked The Joker and its violence and he totally panicked because he said the thought hadn’t occurred to him. Boy needs some media training stat.

–Lindsay Lohan is a judge on The Masked Singer Australia and she actually seems to be doing a good job? Good for her.

–Phoebe Waller-Bridge has signed a big overall deal with Amazon Studios that is worth “around $20 million a year,” which she’s absolutely worth. I just hope they don’t try to pressure her to make more Fleabag because it ended perfectly.

–Zoë Kravitz‘s reaction to Beyoncé’s Lisa Bonet tribute was way cooler than mine would ever be.

-The next legacy show to spark a streaming bidding war will likely be Mad Men.

-Speaking of shows finding new life on streaming services, it’s Cougar Town’s 10 year anniversary and nothing would make me happier if a new generation discovered it through Netflix. Change approved!

-Happy Wayward Son release day! I just want to lock myself in my room and read for the next 13 hours. That’s totally normal, right?

-Are you watching Succession? Please watch Succession, which has somehow gotten even better in season 2. As this article points out, you start watching it thinking it’s about wealth but slowly realize that it’s really about abuse. It won a uprising Emmy for writing last weekend, but I’m guessing next year it’s going to sweep.

-Speaking of things you *must* watch immediately, have you seen Hustlers yet? I’m definitely going to go again soon. But until then, this making of video will have to do. (I also appreciate that in her YouTube description, JLo credits Constance Wu second.)

-The full Breaking Bad trailer has landed and oh god, I want this to be good so badly, but I’m still suffering reboot phobia from Veronica Mars.

-Uncut Gems blew people away at TIFF and everyone was talking about how Adam Sandler might get an Oscar nomination for it. The first trailer makes it clear why.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge Talks Fleabag

-It’s a banner day for us Phoebe Waller-Bridge fans. Tina Fey interviewed her for British GQ, where she talked about the critical reception to Fleabag (“The British press were like, [it’s] is the filthiest, most overly exposed, sexually exposing show ever.’ They made out like I was naked the whole way through. I was like, ‘There is not a moment of nudity in the series.’ I just say stuff about my asshole straight down the barrel. I think that makes people feel so naked, but the language was more naked than the actual performance.”)

–Waller-Bridge is also on the cover of The Hollywood Reporter’s comedy actress issue, alongside Tiffany Haddish, Jane Fonda, Maya Rudolph, Natasha Lyonne, Alex Borstein and Regina Hall. She talks about why she loves writing Fleabag: “I write women who don’t give a shit because I am teaching myself how to be one. I just feel such a catharsis when I turn to the camera and just say that f**king line and it’s just such an amazing feeling. I’d like to be more like that.”

-Following the Natale Portman kerfuffle, Moby has called off the rest of his book tour as well as “all upcoming public appearances for the foreseeable future,” saying “I’m going to go away for a while.”

-As if we needed another reason to stan her, Meghan Markle has reportedly bowed out of meeting Trump.

–Prince Harry took a commercial flight and his fellow passengers couldn’t help but sneak pics of him.

-This makes a lot of sense: CBS announced it will air season 1 of CBS All Access’ The Good Fight this summer, beginning June 16. While I think season 2 is better, this whole show is so, so good!

-I was scared to see Alex Trebek‘s name trending earlier today, but it’s good news! A few months after revealing he had stage 4 pancreatic cancer, he says he’s “near remission,” telling People: “It’s kind of mind-boggling … The doctors said they hadn’t seen this kind of positive result in their memory … some of the tumors have already shrunk by more than 50 percent.”

–Laura Dern just graced us with this perfect IG post and the world doesn’t deserve her.

–Ashton Kutcher testified today in the murder trial for the man accused of killing his friend, Ashley Ellerin. The actor testified that he went to Ellerin’s house the night she was murdered to pick her up for drinks, but there was no answer so he assumed she wasn’t home. He said when he looked in her window, he saw what he thought were red wine stains on her carpet.

–Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix might be engaged.

-This video of Will Smith talking to kids at the Aladdin premiere is all kinds of precious.

-While doing press for Avu DuVernay‘s new Netflix series When They See Us, Joshua Jackson talked about confronting his blind spots as a white man. DuVernay praised his comments, tweeting: “When I first met with [him], I didn’t know what to expect. Certainly not THIS. Had never had a convo like that with a white actor. He surprised me in the most unexpected, beautiful way.”

-When They See Us star Aurora Perrineau talked to Glamour about the series, as well as that apology she got from Lena Dunham, who initially didn’t believe Perrineau’s allegations that Girls writer and exec producer Murray Miller had assaulted her when she was 17.

-Netflix changed its thumbnail for Nailed It! when host Nicole Byer criticized it for whitewashing the show.

-The current showrunner of The Chi, who started in season two, has gone public on the misconduct claims surrounding actor Jason Mitchell, telling the Hollywood Reporter: “I became a target of his rage and inappropriateness, and had to report him to HR, as well…. Ultimately, everyone was well aware of Jason’s behavior and his multiple HR cases, including Lena [Waithe].” Meanwhile, show creator Waithe maintains that she was told of the actor’s alleged actions only after the first season wrapped. (Even if that’s the case, the show didn’t drop Mitchell until its current third season.)

-I really needed this video of Lil Nas X surprising elementary kids today.

-I really liked these details about the vocal-technique work Michelle Williams did to prepare for her performance in Fosse/Verdon. I definitely need to catch up on this show.

–Ansel Elgort posted 17 shirtless pics in a row on Insta, and everyone is very confused.

-Speaking of Ansel, the trailer for The Goldfinch, starring him, Nicole Kidman and Sarah Paulson, dropped today. That was one of those books I read because everyone kept gushing over it, but I found it a bit of a slog. But if you like long and very detailed passages about the art of woodworking, it’ll be your jam.

-I kind of wish Emily Blunt’s Vogue cover wasn’t in character, but her doing 73 Questions in the magazine’s office has a very cute Devil Wears Prada vibe (complete with a great surprise cameo).

–James Corden recruited Noah Centineo in an “All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” parody called “To All the Guests I’ve Loved Before.” I was legit shipping them by the end of this. That’s the power of Centineo!

-Also on Corden’s show, Busy Philipps called out Centineo for ghosting her friend, which he awkwardly laughed off. But TMZ reports that at actor’s team did some damage control and got the segment edited down for the YouTube version so that it wouldn’t damage his “good boy-next-door image.”

-First she was trolling for interviews, now it’s endorsement deals. Lindsay Lohan needs a team.

–Ashton Kutcher says Mila Kunis scheduled his bday party at the bar in Thousand Oaks that was the scene of a mass shooting. “Only reason we are alive is the shooter chose a different night.”

–Adam Driver may have managed to keep the fact that he and his wife have a son a secret for two years, which is some Jedi mind-trick goodness.

–Bill Murray intervened after a male fan pushed his female friend at Sydney Airport.

–Hilary Duff can’t stop gushing about drinking a planceta smoothie — no matter how much we wish she would.

–Viggo Mortensen has apologized after using the n-word at a Green Book panel.

-The Spice Girls are now saying that they never officially asked Victoria Beckham to be part of the reunion. Sure, let’s go with that.

-Meanwhile, no one is more excited for the Spice Girls reunion than Emma Stone. No. One.

-Did The Queen and Meghan Markle have a tense exchange over her wedding tiara?

–Sir Ian McKellen revealed that he and Dame Judi Dench once misbehaved at Buckingham Palace.

–John Mayer wants to assure everyone that he’s not a dick anymore. “I can tell you for sure that I haven’t been a dick in many years. That’s a really outdated take.” Well, I’m convinced!

-At least 8 shots were fired in an apparent drive-by on set of a music video in Beverly Hills featuring Tekashi 6ix9ine, Kanye West and Nicki Minaj.  50 Cent shared photos of the damage.

–Ezra Miller dressed up like a fancy dalek at the Fantastic Beast premiere.

-Meanwhile, the reviews for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald are pretty bleak, hovering around 58% rotten.

-The Affair is doing a 20-year jump into the future, with Anna Paquin joining the cast as Joanie. I guess that’s one way to get around the fact that most of your regulars have jumped ship.

-The first footage from Luther’s new season is here. It’s only supposed to be a couple of episodes but Ruth Wilson is rumoured to be returning and I cannot wait!!
