Miley Cyrus Calls Marriage to Liam Hemsworth “a F**cking Disaster”

Miley Cyrus helped a couple get engaged at her concert and said, “Honey, I hope your marriage goes better than mine. Mine was a f**king disaster!”

-Awful news: Taylor Hawkins, the drummer for the Foo Fighters, has died at the age of 50.

-What else is there to say about the Will Smith moment at last night’s Oscars? (This article has all the relevant video clips.) I’m sad for everyone involved, and thought both the joke and the slap were awful. I was already cranky about Chris Rock‘s dated bit on hysterical wives in reference to Penelope Cruz but am still stunned by Smith’s self-sabotage, given that he is one of the most deliberate, intentional actors we’ve ever seen when it comes to crafting his career and reputation. There will be lots and lots of talk and fallout from this, and it’ll be interesting to watch the PR strategy.

-This is one of those moments where I think white people should sit back and not give much commentary, and instead listen to what Black people are saying. Some threads I found interesting are this one on the power structure and Rock’s mindful recovery, this one on the cultural nuances of the debate, this one on all the factors at play, this one on Rock’s history, and this one that touches on Smith invoking all the women connected to his movie as cover in his speech.

-In terms of fallout, THR reports that the Academy’s board of governors held an emergency conference call today about the incident and have launched a formal review. “Some sanction of Smith is likely to come — perhaps the suspension of his Academy membership, as many Academy members are calling for, but not the revocation of his best actor Oscar, as others would like to see.” (It makes no sense to talk about taking his trophy away. Roman Polanski, Harvey Weinstein, Woody Allen, Casey Affleck, Kevin Spacey, Mel Gibson, Clark Gable, etc. didn’t have to give back their awards. Polanski couldn’t even accept his in person because he’d fled the country to avoid a pedophilia conviction, and he still got a standing ovation.)

Tiffany Haddish said what Will Smith did was “the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen” and told People magazine, “I went up to [Jada Pinkett Smith] and said, ‘You better suck his d–k from the back, girl!’ Um, ok.

-Summer of Soul won best documentary immediately after the incident and Questlove‘s excellent speech was lost amid the shuffle. Here it is.

-Another excellent moment that was overshadowed was Lady Gaga‘s lovely way of taking care of Liza Minnelli when they presented Best Picture. “I got you.”

-Smith still hit up the after parties, while Rock attended Gucci’s private party at Guy Oseary’s home.

-I’m surprised Jay Z still had his Oscar party at the Chateau Marmont given the current boycott against that place.

Jessica Chastain‘s after party dress was excellent, as was Dakota Johnson’s and Mindy Kaling’s.

-The Vanity Fair party portraits are always worth a look.

-I watched Everything Everywhere All at Once this weekend and was blown away! Michelle Yeoh is a queen and I hope this movie isn’t going to be forgotten come awards season next year. I was also impressed by Ke Huy Quan (who was of the ’80s’ most recognizable child stars, playing Short Round in the Temple of Doom and Data in The Goonies), who grew up to be a stunt coordinator and is back in front of the camera after 35 years. This interview with him is incredibly charming.

-Speaking of new movies, The Lost City opened to a better-than-expected $31 million domestically.

-There’s a new trailer for season two of Only Murders in the Building, which returns in June. I’m surprised it’s coming back so quickly, but I’m not complaining.

-Have you started watching Bridgerton season two yet? I’m loving it but trying to space it out so I’m just on episode 4. There’s been some very cute background stuff released this weekend, including Jonathan Bailey’s behind the scenes pics with Ashley Simone, and this featurette on the pall-mall scene.

-Also, I like this debate on whether season two is sexy enough. So far, I’m liking it much better than season one, but I can’t believe they didn’t lean into the ridiculous, horny bee sting scene from the book.

-Here’s the Lightyear trailer, which Chris Evans very awkwardly introduced at the Oscars last night.
