Gwyneth Paltrow Revisits Conscious Uncoupling

http://scandalsheet.ca/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/gwyneth-the-edit-conscious-uncoupling

-I really like the tanned, no makeup thing Gwyneth Paltrow has going on on The Edit cover. The interview is predictably eyeroll-y though, in which she acknowledges that the phrase “conscious uncoupling” is “dorky” but still “a good idea.” She really loses me when she blames the backlash against GOOP on “stay in your lane” sexism, saying “Women in general get a lot of pushback, especially if you’re successful and attractive.” Maybe the pushback had less to do with how beautiful she is, and more to do with the fact that she told women to steam their vaginas?

-HBO nabbed Julia Roberts‘ first TV series, Today Will Be Different, based on the Maria Semple book.

-The new Arcade Fire song “Everything Now” I mentioned yesterday is out with links that aren’t disappearing! It’s got an ABBA vibe that I can get behind.

-People has released a statement in response to Jennifer Garner’s clapback, saying “Our story on Jennifer Garner is fair and truthful. To be clear, it does not include rumors and does not say she’s pregnant. We wish her well.” It’ll be interesting to see how this shakes out, as she was clearly pro-People when it came to exclusives before this.

-Netflix has cancelled Sense8 after only two seasons. Probably not great timing that they killed such an LGBT-positive show on the first day of Pride.

-Variety points out a disturbing trend in the recent TV cancellations: they’re often inclusive, diverse shows.

Jennifer Hudson, Aubrey Plaza, Adam Scott, Kal Penn, Joseph Fiennes, and Rose Byrne are among the 30 supporting TV actors who posed for this giant Emmy photo.

Riz Ahmed, Ewan McGregor, Billy Bob Thornton, Sterling K. Brown, John Lithgow and Jeffrey Wright take part in THR’s TV drama actor roundtable.

Chloë Grace Moretz apologized for her new animated movie’s terrible, body-shaming ad, tweeting “I have now fully reviewed the mkting for Red Shoes, I am just as appalled and angry as everyone else, this wasn’t approved by me or my team. Pls know I have let the producers of the film know. I lent my voice to a beautiful script that I hope you will all see in its entirety.” I dunno, the trailer seems pretty bad, too.

-Wonder Woman — earning rapturous reviews — is expected to chase away the doldrums at the early summer box office with a $95M debut this weekend.

-Meanwhile, the studios are blaming critics for the soft Memorial Day weekend. Lolz.

-The mayor of Austin just shut down a sexist email about women-only Wonder Woman screenings and it’s everything.

Chris Pine says he spent the Wonder Woman shoot “flirting and acting like a jackass.” Which pretty much sounds like typical actor behavior but at least he’s admitting it.

-I love this season of The Leftovers. I don’t understand it, but I love it. The thing I find really interesting is how it’s engaging directly with TV critics. A recent episode was inspired by the death of Vulture critic Matt Zoller Seitz’s wife. Creator Damon Lindelof also admitted that they wrote season two and three’s long opening sequences to mess with critic Andy Greenwald. And now Variety’s Mo Ryan has written a heartrending personal essay about experiencing the loss of her parents through the lens of the show, and it left me in tears.

-This is Us creator Dan Fogelman has written an ode to broadcast network TV.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Josh Gad, Katy Perry, Ashley Judd and more celebs took to Twitter to slam Trump for pulling out of the Paris climate accord.

-Here the first trailer for Kenneth Branagh‘s Murder on the Orient Express, featuring Penélope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Judi Dench, Josh Gad, Leslie Odom, Jr., Michelle Pfeiffer, Daisy Ridley, and some really pretty tracking shots.

THR Calls Wonder Woman a “Gamble,” Twitter Claps Back

-This take is TRASH: the Hollywood Reporter’s cover story says Warner Bros is “gambling $150M” on Wonder Woman’s female director because her only prior big screen credit is the $8M Oscar-nominated, critically acclaimed Monster. Seriously? As Twitter was quick to point out, Hollywood handed the keys to the Jurassic franchise over to Colin Trevorow, who had only done the $750K Safety Not Guaranteed, which wasn’t nominated for shit and no one saw it. Or what about Josh Trank, who jumped from teeny tiny indie Chronicle to Fantastic Four? Same with Jordan Vogt-Roberts, Gareth Edwards, Jon Watts, Alan Taylor, David Yates, James Gunn, etc. Hollywood throws money at white men who barely have a YouTube channel all the time. But this is a gamble that requires hand-wringing? Nah, son.

-Meanwhile, This Wonder Woman featurette is 13 minutes of pure joy.

-Felicity reunion alert! Keri Russell and Scott Speedman appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live together and it made my heart grow three sizes. The part where he talks about how they dated and he was “such a disaster of a boyfriend”? Kill me.

-Oh god, did Robin Wright take Sean Penn back? Why????

– Jennifer Garner is on the cover of People and it confused everyone because it’s kind of a nothing article. It turns out she had no involvement in the story at all. She took to Facebook to say “This isn’t a tragedy by any measure, but it does affect me and my family and so, before my mom’s garden club lights up her phone, I wanted to set the record straight: I did not pose for this cover. I did not participate in or authorize this article. While we are here, for what it’s worth: I have three wonderful kids and my family is complete.” A celebrity calling out People like this? Yikes.

Arcade Fire is going full glam-era Bowie with their new track, which is impossible to link to because it keeps getting pulled from YouTube.

-NBC changed its mind and won’t move This Is Us to Thursday nights after all. Why mess with the only genuine hit of the year?

Kathy Griffin apologized for her Trump decapitation photo, saying “I am sorry. I went too far. I was wrong.” CNN has fired her anyway.

Drake scored a huge victory in his sampling lawsuit with a fair use argument about “real music.”

-Less of a victory: JLo just dismissed him as a booty call.

-67 million of Katy Perry‘s followers may be fake.

-Vulture is asking the right questions in this piece wondering how the hell Johnny Depp keeps getting cast in movies.

Ed Westwick has no interest in a Gossip Girl revival. “It’s played out, man. It’s done.”

-This past weekend was the worst Memorial Day weekend at the box office since 1999.

-Wow, this seems like a big career misstep for Hailee Steinfeld.

-The CW was the only network this season to boast a majority of female showrunners at 67%, followed by ABC (33%), Fox & NBC (20%), CBS (11%).

-Watch Pretty Little Liars’ Troian Bellisario and Harry Potter’s Tom Felton play twins in the first trailer for Feed (which was written by Bellisario).

-You get two James Francos for the price of one in this trailer for David Simon‘s new show The Deuce.

Did Katy Perry Copy An Idea for Her Music Video?

-A video director is accusing Katy Perry of ripping him off.

-That ‘Avril Lavigne is dead‘ conspiracy theory resurfaced again this weekend. It’s like it’s 2015 all over again.

-It looks like that Vogue cover is already working: Elle Fanning is the new face of L’Oréal Paris.

Drake chaperoned his cousin’s prom. More importantly, she and her date wore matching outfits!

-Ruh roh. Hackers are reportedly threatening to release an upcoming Disney movie online if they’re not paid a ransom.

-This article about how The Leftovers’ Damon Lindelof wrote an episode of the show inspired by Vulture’s TV critic left me gobsmacked and a little teary. Definitely worth reading.

Jenna Dewan-Tatum remembers the time she dated Justin Timberlake: “It’s not as salacious as everyone thinks.”

Arcade Fire reportedly debuted half a dozen new songs at a secret show in Montreal over the weekend.

-Here’s an oral history of SNL’s epic season, made even better by a hilarious photo shoot.

-Speaking of oral histories, everyone’s talking about this juicy one about The Strokes.

-King of Arthur: Legend of the Sword could lose $150 million. This has not been a good run for white male directors.

-I haven’t watched American Gods yet, but I LOL’d at this interview with Bryan Fuller about how he demanded a gay sex scene be reshot. “I was like, ‘Okay, unless he has a 12-inch, candy-cane c*ck and can f*ck around corners, his dick’s not getting in him. So you guys need to go back and figure out where holes are.”

-It’s upfronts week, which means a ton of TV news is breaking. Fox blasted ABC’s resurrection of American Idol as “extremely fraudulent,” renewed New Girl for a shortened final season, debuted the full trailers for their X-Men show The Gifted starring Amy Acke, and The Resident with Matt Czuchry and Emily Van Camp, confirmed The X Files will return next year and cancelled Scream Queens (though 24: Legacy and Prison Break may live on).

-Speaking of cancelled shows, NBC did the unthinkable and reversed their decision about Timeless’ cancellation. It had more to do with renegotiated ownership stakes than fan outcry, but it’s still sure to give fandoms false hope for years to come.

-Speaking of fandoms, this is a good read on why the cancellation of diverse, female-friendly shows is a tough pill to stomach.

-NBC also ordered a new show starring Mae Whitman and Retta, which is already my favourite. They also debuted the new Will & Grace promo which…ok.

-No, YOU cried watching this video of the This Is Us cast surprising fans.

-Bravo greenlit a new series called All That Glitters about Anna Wintour & Tina Brown‘s rise in publishing and I want it NOW.

-In honour of upfronts, a former TV Guide and Variety writer lays out why each network sucks. Up first, Fox and NBC: “[Fox’s ratings are]  that guy with a tiny dick telling you he grows 100% if you just give him a chance (a.k.a. Live+7).”

Felicity from Arrow can sing? (I’m not sure why she’s wasting her talents on Maroon 5 covers, but still.)

Jason Bateman says he signed on for a new season of Arrested Development on Netflix, so I guess that’s a thing.

-The official trailer for Glow, Netflix’s show about 80’s lady wrestlers, is out.
