Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas Join the Fight

Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas took a break from pap walking to protest.

John Boyega joined the protests in London today and told the crowd “I’m speaking to you from my heart. Look, I don’t know if I’m going to have a career after this, but f*ck that.”

-Speaking of the protests, Keke Palmer confronted the National Guard.

Lea Michele has issued an apology for her past behavior — and I feel like her PR people should probably have taken one more pass at it. Saying things like “I don’t remember” tormenting costars and talking about how her behavior “was perceived by them” ain’t it.

-Spring Awakening’s Gerard Canonico fired back: “You were nothing but a nightmare to me and fellow understudy cast members. You made us feel like we didn’t belong there. I tried for years to be nice to you to no avail. Maybe actually apologize instead of placing the blame on how others ‘perceive’ you.”

-Glee’s Heather Morris also commented, saying she doesn’t want everyone to assume Michele is a racist. “With that said, was she unpleasant to work with? Very much so; for Lea to treat others with the disrespect that she did for as long as she did, I believe she SHOULD be called out.”

-Quibi execs are taking pay cuts. With some shows with huge stars still in the planning stages, I wonder if they will go forward, seeing as the platform doesn’t seem to be catching on at all.

-Fandoms get a bad rap, but this is the second time in a week that K-Pop fans have mobilized to fight racism and protect protesters.

-Have you watched Hannah Gadsby‘s new Netflix special Douglas yet? It’s a nice break from reality. In Vulture’s podcast, she talks about how she structured it like a fugue.

-Speaking of Vulture, I liked this article on stan culture in music fandom. “Lana and Doja learned the lesson Taylor Swift uncovered in the Reputation era, that you can only control your narrative inside your constituency. Outside the castle walls, the wolves are hungry.”

-For some reason I seem to follow every actor who’s ever been on the CW on Instagram. I’ve been pleasantly surprised how they’re using their platforms to amplify Black voices and show their support, so whenever someone makes a misstep it feels bigger. The latest doozies: Katie Cassidy was getting criticism on her silence so she … painted a hashtag on her wall? At least she wasn’t afraid to use the hashtag. Stephen Amell posted a video and gives the strangest explanation for his silence. He says he was quiet over the weekend because he wanted to give space to Black voices. But he posted like 7 videos on Facebook and some of them were nearly an hour long? In the video he also talks about how cops should get paid more and how white privilege didn’t get him where he is, hard work did. It’s a LOT.

-Speaking of the CW, the network are reportedly not going to recast Ruby Rose’s character on Batwoman — they’re just going to introduce a new actress to take over the cowl. It’s so strange. All of the major supporting characters are connected to Kate Kane (Kate’s sister, Kate’s dad, Kate’s cousin, Kate’s stepsister, Kate’s ex).  And if any show could recast the main character, it’s the one that has plots about literal face-swapping and a multiverse.

Lori Loughlin‘s daughter Olivia Jade stepped in it again.

-Paper scripts, including sides and high-fives, will go away when Hollywood resumes production.

-I’ve started watching Anna Kendrick‘s new show Love Life and am kind of charmed by it, despite critics seeming to be down on it. Not all critics, though.

Gwyneth Paltrow actually called out her followers who say “all lives matter” and I’m shook.

-Here’s the trailer for the Jon Stewart-directed political comedy Irresistible.

John Boyega Has No Time for Racists

John Boyega tweeted “I really f*cking hate racists” and people got all huffy in his replies and he was NOT having it. His responses were amazing. Then he took it up a notch on Instagram Live: “I’ll say it again. F*ck you racist white people. I said what I said. If you don’t f*cking like it, go suck a dick…If you’re a fan of me and you support my work and you’re racist and you’re arguing with what I was saying, f*ck off, you f*cking dickheads.” I love him with my whole heart.

-In her new Variety cover story, Gabrielle Union is breaking her silence on what went down on America’s Got Talent.

People’s latest cover story is Lori Loughlin and husband Mossimo Giannulli‘s first step to image rehabilitation. Sources tell the magazine, “Lori and Mossimo deeply regret what they did. They want to serve their sentences, pay their dues and put this behind them.”

-This is a pretty great breakdown of that Tatler cover story on Kate Middleton. Meanwhile, Kensington Palace has hit back at Tatler’s article, saying “This story contains a swathe of inaccuracies and false misrepresentations which were not put to Kensington Palace prior to publication.” Which is surprising, seeing as many believe the article was sanctioned by Kate.

Billie Eilish has shared a short film about body shaming titled Not My Responsibility.

Josh Gad brought Tom Hanks, Daryl Hannah and Ron Howard back together for a Splash reunion. Howard recalled one time John Candy was late to the set and offered up the most amazing excuse. “He said, ‘Look, I’m drunk!’ Here’s what happened … I’m at the bar and Jack Nicholson’s at the bar. Jack Nicholson knew my name, Ron. He starts buying me drinks, I said, ‘I gotta go shoot’ and he said, ‘You’ll be alright kid, don’t worry about it.’ I never went to bed, Ron, I never went to bed!”

John Krasinski explained to Rainn Wilson why he decided to sell Some Good News to a TV network. Surprisingly, the phrase “cash grab” didn’t come up.

Lisa Kudrow says Matthew Perry gave her the “Cookie Time” jar from the set at the Friends wrap party.

-I love how much TV Cate Blanchett is doing. She’s currently in Mrs America (which is very good) and she’s about to be in a limited series on Netflix.

-Speaking of TV, HBO Max dropped today. In Canada, we won’t get all of the past TV and movie catalog, but we are getting most of the original series through Crave.

-HBO Max’s first scripted series, Love Life starring Anna Kendrick, is getting mixed reviews.

-My favourite thing about the Sesame Street characters doing press for Elmo’s new talk show on HBO Max is when they stay on the Zoom calls after to chat with the interviewers’ kids.

J.K. Rowling has unveiled a new children’s tale The Ickabog as free online serial. You can read chapters 1-5 here.

-Toronto rapper Houdini has been identified as the victim in yesterday’s fatal downtown shooting.

Scott Disick and Sofia Richie have split up after three years of me not even knowing they were together.

Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher are offering a glimpse into their private life in a new four-part series called Mike and Carrie: God & Country. Wait, if she’s the country part, is he supposed to be…god?

You’re the Worst’s Kether Donohue deserves bigger things than a Darren Criss show on Quibi.

-Here’s a new trailer for the Love, Simon TV spinoff, Love, Victor.

Gemma Arterton finds her maternal side in the trailer for Summerland.

Issa Rae Covers Cosmo

issa raeIra wrote the cover story on Issa Rae for Cosmo. Love them both!

Kate Beckinsale is on the cover of Women’s Health, in which she talks about people’s perception of her. “It can feel like a little bit of a political act to be a woman over 32 who’s having any fun at all. And by that, I don’t mean doing drugs and drinking and partying, because I never am, but being goofy, and going out, and not going, ‘Oh my god, I’m going to sit home and anticipate menopause while crocheting.’ ”

-Also, she doesn’t love it when Instagram followers comment on her smoking.

-The more people talk about Brad Pitt and Alia Shawkat‘s “incredibly tight bond,” the more it bugs me that there’s no dating rumours about them. I have no idea what’s going on with them, but if any other actress was repeatedly spotted spending time with him during social distancing, the tabloids would have them engaged by now. But because she doesn’t look like what we expect his girlfriend to look like, every article emphasizes how they’re “just friends.”

-Before social distancing started, Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Adam Scott, Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow filmed a Red Nose Day segment in which they attempt to get out of Jack Black’s Escape Room.

-Is Dolly Parton going to save the world? The signer is funding some of the most important, most promising COVID-19 treatment research.

-Any Taffy Brodesser-Akner profile goes to the top of my TBR list, but this one on Val Kilmer is especially outstanding. He now tours a show where he dresses up like Mark Twain and does Christian Science-themed standup comedy.

-HBO Max has given a 10-episode series order to a single-camera comedy starring Jean Smart, from three Broad City producers. It’ll be executive produced by The Good Place creator Mike Schur. I like all of those people!

Sources say Trolls 2’s top voice stars, including Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick were not informed ahead of the announcement that the film would be arriving on-demand early. Now their reps are asking for pay.

-The creator of Black Mirror says the world is too bleak for a new season right now. Seeing as we’re all living in a episode of that show right now…yeah.

-If any actor was going to be the first to shoot a movie in space, Tom Cruise makes the most sense.

-I share a birthday with Baby Archie, which I’m not mad about. Everyone was wondering how Meghan Markle and Prince Harry would commemorate it on social media, and they did even better than I expected (considering all their recent PR flubs) by posting a cute reading video for charity.

-It’s also George Clooney’s birthday. To commemorate his 59th, former ER love interest Julianna Margulies shared a bts pic of their last scene.

-Novelist Emily Giffin hates Meghan Markle so much. Girl, I read Something Borrowed. Sit down.

-Vulture’s costar reunions continue with Happy Endings’ Eliza Coupe and Elisha Cuthbert. I love that Cuthbert is wearing an East Coast Lifestyle had like a good Canadian.

-I’m not sure how I feel about Adele’s drastic transformation. I hope she’s healthy and happy, but she looks like everyone else in Hollywood now. (Specifically, Sarah Paulson.)

-Also, with Adele trending it surfaced this amazing video of her meeting some of her impersonators.
