Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas Split

Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas have split up . It’s a holiday in the US, which makes it a good day to try to slip this news under the radar. Still, the People quotes from sources are pretty supportive of both sides, and yet she’s been officially positioned as the dumper and he’s the dumpee. I wonder how they worked that out.

Armie Hammer has apologized after his finsta leaked and it included a post that showed an unidentified woman in lingerie on her hands and knees on a hotel bed, whom he referred to as ‘Miss Cayman.’ He issued a statement to the Cayman Compass: “I would like to clarify that the person in my video, which was stolen from my private Instagram, is not Miss Cayman.” First of all, if he posted it to Instagram it’s not exactly “stolen.” Secondly, *this* is what he feels the need to apologize about?! I gotta hope he’s just getting warmed up.

-This is a good take on how the cannibalism accusations are the least disturbing in this saga. His last girlfriend said she checked herself into a 30-day partial hospitalization program designed to treat PTSD and trauma following their 2-month relationship last year. I also liked this thread about how damaging it is for him to say he prefers rough sex but stopped wanting it with his wife because that’s the mother of his children and he grew to respect her too much.

-He was also reportedly fantasizing about sex during BLM protests, so it just gets better and better.

Michael B. Jordan and Lori Harvey look like they’re having a blast on vacation. Are paps just hanging out in St. Barts or….?

-I don’t watch Batwoman but according to critics, the show isn’t really feeling the loss of Ruby Rose‘s departure. They’re loving Javicia Leslie, who took over the leading role in last night’s episode.

Gwyneth Paltrow‘s ‘vagina’ candle reportedly exploded in a UK woman’s home, which was a gift for headline writers today.

Dua Lipa, I really like you, but we’re not doing this trend again, mmm-kay?

Kate Winslet said she learned to free dive and breath-hold for her role in Avatar: “We might be down for between three and a half and four minutes on any take. But that’s not my longest breath-hold. My longest was seven minutes and 14 seconds. Absolute truth.”

Kylie Jenner tried to show off her massive walk-in shower and all anyone could focus on was her terrible water pressure.

Justin Timberlake finally confirmed that he and Jessica Biel had another baby. His name is Phinneas.

-Oh god, please tell me Tiffany Haddish is not spreading covid conspiracy theories??

-A source tells People that Kim Kardashian and Kayne West have given up going to marriage counseling.

-The guy who played Christopher on Girlmore Girls denied rumours that he attended the Capitol insurrection — but he seemed to support it.

Matthew McConaughey talked cancel culture with Jordan Peterson. Jordan Freakin’ Peterson?!? That’s a bridge too far for me.

-Have you watched Promising Young Woman yet? My favourite part of it is how it weaponizes its casting by using actors who are known for playing nice guys on TV.

Bow Wow played a packed indoor concert in Houston. Can you imagine risking your life…for Bow Wow?!?

Trevor Noah and Minka Kelly, who have been dating for five months, are moving into a $27.5 million mansion.

Romeo Beckham looks so much like his mom Victoria on the cover of Luomo Vogue.

Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League is going to be a 4-hour movie on HBO Max, not a 4-hour miniseries. Twitter seems to think this is a big deal, but I continue to care a negative amount about this entire project.

Matt Damon has joined the cast of Thor: Love and Thunder. There’s no word if he’s got a bigger role than the cameo he made in Ragnarok.

-I like these predictions about how TV may soon change. Moving late-night shows to prime time seems like a no-brainer.

-Here’s the trailer for the new series The Equalizer, premiering after the Super Bowl. I’m not really into CBS shows, but I *am* into watching Queen Latifah being an ass-kicking vigilante.

Nicolas Cage fights killer animatronics in the first trailer for Willy’s Wonderland.

Taylor Swift Is Dropping Clues

Taylor Swift posted a black-and-white picture captioned, “not a lot going on at the moment.” She wore the same message on a t-shirt in her “22” music video and, in April, she used the caption while secretly recording folklore. While some assume it’s an “Exile” music video, the likeliest bet is that she’s re-recording Red, now that she’s officially free to. In her AMA speech, she confirmed that she’s re-recording her old music in the studio she originally did it.

-Euphoria star Lukas Gage posted a Zoom audition in which the director, thinking he was muted, mocked the size of his apartment. I’ve never seen so many blue-checked replies in a comments section, and they come from a weird, wide range of celebs like Dakota Fanning, Paul Mescal, January Joans, Molly Shannon, Emmy Rossum, Robbie Amell, Paul Scheer.

-TMZ reports the director on the call was Tristram Shapeeroand says he’ll be releasing his side of the story — but it won’t include an apology. Not quite sure how that comment could have possibly be taken out of context but sure.

Vanessa Hudgens was spotted looking cozy with MLB player Cole Tucker.

-When Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas were in New Orleans last week, everyone zeroed in on the massive diamond ring she was wearing, but it seems they were simply doing reshoots for Dark Water, in which they play a married couple. The way she’s looking at the ring though, they were def playing it up for the paps.

-This is a great interview with Kristen Stewart, in which she’s asked if only queer actors should play queer characters. “would never want to tell a story that really should be told by somebody who’s lived that experience. Having said that, it’s a slippery slope conversation because that means I could never play another straight character if I’m going to hold everyone to the letter of this particular law. I think it’s such a gray area. There are ways for men to tell women’s stories, or ways for women to tell men’s stories. But we need to have our finger on the pulse and actually have to care. You kind of know where you’re allowed. I mean, if you’re telling a story about a community and they’re not welcoming to you, then fuck off.”

-Jeopardy is not naming a new long-term host after Alex Trebek‘s death right away. For awhile, there will be a series of rotating hosts, starting with Ken Jennings.

-I didn’t understand The Weeknd’s look at last night’s AMAs.

Bad Bunny was originally set to perform at the AMAs but had to cancel after testing positive for the rona.

Christine Baranski says she “practically didn’t have to read the script” before joining Dolly Parton’s new Christmas film: “Oh my God, I get to hang out with Dolly Parton!? She’s going to be my personal Christmas angel? Where do I sign the papers?” It just hit Netflix and I cannot wait to watch it.

-Now here’s a headline to kick off the week: “Sex Pistols star Johnny Rotten bitten by a flea on his penis after rescuing squirrels”

Hasan Minhaj was trending today for a clip from Vanity Fair’s lie detector test where he said he was more attractive than Dax Shepard.

-Speaking of Hasan, women of colour who worked on his Netflix show Patriot Act have called out his treatment of them.

-Netflix today announced that, according to their numbers, a record-setting 62 million households chose to watch The Queen’s Gambit in its first month, making it its biggest scripted limited series to date. I don’t believe Netflix’s ratings press releases at all, but it must mean something that it’s been listed in the Top 10 in Canada for weeks. The fact that it hit No. 1 for at least a day in 63 different countries speaks to it’s wide appeal — everyone from teens to grandmas seems to be watching it.

-Meanwhile, expect it to land on many Best TV of 2019 lists.

Prince William and Kate revealed their ‘dear dog’ Lupo died over the weekend.

-I remember when Ryan Reynolds filmed Just Friends in Saskatchewan and there were so many stories coming out of that town about him being um, not great. But his reputation on set has definitely turned around the last couple of years. And now he’s doing stuff like this: he recorded over 400 personalized videos to thank his quarantining crew.

Kelly Clarkson and Jewel teamed up for a “Foolish Games” duet over Zoom to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Piece of You album and it was pretty damn great.

-What Alan Rickman once said about costar Tim Allen is perfection.

-The CW’s Arrowverse continues to implode now that the anchor show has ended: Black Lightning’s upcoming season will be its last, and it sounds like the cast found out the same time the rest of us did.

Dennis Quaid and Sean Patrick Flanery team up for a MMA drama in Born a Champion.

Mandy Moore Isn’t Impressed By Ryan Adams’ Apology

-The best thing about Mandy Moore interviews is that her face is so expressive, you know exactly what she’s really thinking. On the Today Show she was asked about ex-husband Ryan Adams‘ new apology more than a year after he was accused of sexual misconduct by several women — and she very politely makes it clear that she has no time for his performative bs. “I find it curious that someone would make a public apology but not do it privately.”

Kanye West may have announced that he’s running for president, but it’s too late for him to register in some states.

-Also, his Yeezy company received more than $2 million through the Paycheck Protection Program, the Small Business Administration disclosed today.

Kendall and Kylie Jenner are denying reports that their fashion brand had failed to pay factory workers in Bangladesh during the pandemic.

-At this point, whenever a new celeb profile written by E. Alex Jung comes out, it’s an immediate ‘drop everything and read it’ moment, and his latest on Michaela Coel is no exception. It includes lots of  damning insights on how Hollywood operates, including the fact that she rejected Netflix’s $1M offer for I May Destroy You because she had to negotiate to retain just 0.5% of the copyright. It also reveals that Coel was involved with virtually every aspect of her first show, Chewing Gum – from the writing to the music to the costumes to postproduction – but when she asked to be made an executive producer, she was told no.

-Speaking of today’s must-read New Yorker articles, this deep-dive into Quibi is outstanding.  Tidbits include the CEO struggling to come up with a TV show she likes (“I’m not sure I’d classified myself as an entertainment enthusiast”), to a survey with 70% of respondents assuming it’s a food delivery app, to reports of Jeffrey Katzenberg running “his hand along the hoods of employees’ cars upon arriving at the studio, checking to see who had gotten there only shortly before him.” There’s also this stunner: “When Gal Gadot came to the offices and delivered an impassioned speech about wanting to elevate the voices of girls and women, Katzenberg wondered aloud whether she might become the new Jane Fonda and do a workout series for Quibi. (“Apparently, her face fell,” says a person briefed on the meeting.)”

-The 100 star Bob Morley‘s ex posted on Twitter that he was verbally and emotionally abusive, and implied that he cheated on her with his costar/now-wife Eliza Taylor. Some of their 100 costars liked his ex’s tweet.

-In less messy CW news, Riverdale’s KJ Apa took to TikTok to show off his…um…dancing?

-The CW doesn’t cancel anything, so it’s a big deal that they cancelled Katy Keene.

-The latest round of Actors on Actors interviews include Ramy Youssef and Tessa Thompson, and Dan Levy and Kieran Culkin.

Ghislaine Maxwell’s arrest seems to have rattled Prince Andrew’s cage.

-Never Have I Ever has been renewed for season 2 at Netflix. It feels like 900 years since I watched this but it was only a few weeks ago and I found it delightful.

JK Rowling just won’t stop until she ruins her entire career and legacy, huh? In her latest terrible Twitter thread, she called transgender hormone therapy a “new kind of conversion therapy for young gay people.”

-Who else is over Ben Affleck and Ana de Armasperformative laughter on their pap walks? I mean, no one is that funny.

Brie Larson has a new Youtube channel and the bros are handing it as well as you’d expect.

Kacey Musgraves snuck in her divorce announcement late Friday afternoon on a long weekend.

-Dirty Dancing’s Jennifer Grey and Avengers’ Clark Gregg are divorcing after 19 years together.

Harry Styles recorded a Sleep Story for the Calm app. I had a two-week stretch where I couldn’t fall asleep unless I was listening to Matthew McConaughey’s story, so I get it.

-Did you watch Hamilton this weekend? It sent me down a rabbit hole of Ham2Ham videos. This one of the three actors who played King George performing as the Schuyler Sisters is my fave.

-I’m surprisingly intrigued by the trailer for Seth Rogen’s American Pickle.

-Was the first Kissing Booth movie terrible? Yes. Am I going to watch the second one the weekend it drops? Damn skippy!
