Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem Were Reluctant Ricardos

Nicole-Kidman-Javier-Bardem-Being-Ricardo

-In their THR cover story, Oscar winners Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem revealed that they both tried to get out of Being the Ricardos a month before they were scheduled to start shooting.

-Oof, Ben Affleck is getting roasted for all the headlines pulling his quote about how his drinking came from feeling “trapped” in his marriage to Jennifer Garner. It was indeed some shitty, bullshit projecting, but he did say lots of nice things about her in that interview, too.

-Meanwhile, Affleck had a fantastic answer when asked why he thinks The Last Duel flopped at the box office. “It wasn’t one of those films that you say, ‘Oh boy, I wish my movie had worked.’ Instead, this is more due to a seismic shift that I’m seeing, and I’m having this conversation with every single person I know…One of the fundamental ways it’s changing is that the people who want to see complicated, adult, non-IP dramas are the same people who are saying to themselves, ‘You know what? I don’t need to go out to a movie theater because I’d like to pause it, go to the bathroom, finish it tomorrow.’ It’s that, along with the fact that you can watch with good quality at home.”

Keanu Reeves continues to age like a fine wine.

Will Forte and Seth Meyers went day drinking and things got really messy, really fast. (How far they take the “if you make me break, I will do a shot” bit is insane. “I cheated on my wife there!”)

-Here’s our first glimpse of Amanda Seyfried as Elizabeth Holmes in Hulu’s The Dropout.

Alan Ruck is the latest Succession costar to defend Jeremy Strong‘s New Yorker profile: “Well, this is what I think. I think The New Yorker came to Jeremy. They said, “We want to do a piece about you because you’re a wonderful actor and you have this eccentric way of preparing. We think that’s a good story. You want to do it?” And he said, “Yeah,” and he said, “Yes, I do do all those things. I do whatever it takes to bring a character to life”…That’s what he believes he needs to do to get himself into his zone so he can deliver his best work. And does that make him crazy? No. Does that make him a better actor? Well, he thinks it does, but there’s a lot of other actors who are just as good who don’t do that…So I didn’t think that piece was a hit piece. Some people said, “Oh, it was an attack on Jeremy.” I didn’t think that at all. I mean, they laid out these facts. So, this is what this guy does and this is how he prepares, and this is what he’s like on set.”

-Meanwhile, I love this thread on Shiv’s outfits this season. Ever since she left politics and tried to join the corporate world, everything she wears is just a smidge ill-fitting.

-Pitch Perfect’s Adam Devine married Chloe Bridges in Cabo and Vogue has the photos (that kissing one is shockingly awkward). Rebel Wilson and Devine’s Workaholics co-stars Blake Anderson and Anders Holm attended.

-The Good Place’s Manny Jacinto is flaunting it in Flaunt Magazine.

-I’m bummed that Guillermo del Toro’s latest Oscar contender Nightmare Alley with Cate Blanchett and Bradley Cooper isn’t getting better reviews.

-If you’re in any way interested in superhero movies, avoid YouTube’s homepage today because there’s a video that very clearly spoils Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent trailer stars Nicolas Cage as himself and Pedro Pascal as a wealthy fan.

Katherine Heigl Is Done Being Shunned

-This is an interesting interview with Katherine Heigl, in which she talks about how her “difficult” label crushed her career. On one hand, she made some valid points about Knocked Up at the time and the world owes her an apology about the backlash (same with Megan Fox re: her comments about Michael Bay). On the other hand, rumours about her and her mother’s behaviour on set were legendary.  In any case, her 27 Dresses costar James Marsden has her back, saying in the article: “She has very strong convictions and strong opinions on certain things, and she doesn’t back down from letting you know if she feels like she’s been wronged in any way. I’ve always seen that as just strength of character.”

Machine Gun Kelly is performing on SNL this weekend and Megan Fox joined him on his way to rehearsals — where she was spotted wearing what looks like an engagement ring.

-Whoever is doing Mariah Carey‘s social strategy continues to crush it.

T.I. and Tiny are denying the rumours that surfaced on social media this week, alleging the couple drugged and assaulted women. They released a statement: “Mr. and Mrs. Harris want to be on record and more importantly want the public to know they emphatically deny in the strongest way possible the egregiously appalling allegations being made against them by Sabrina Peterson. The Harrises have had difficulty with this woman for well over a decade. They are taking this matter very seriously.”

Amy Schumer still doesn’t really understand how she ended up in the drama involving Hilaria Baldwin.

-The two stars of Pen15 are both pregnant, which should make for an interesting new season.

Anne Hathaway has joined Jared Leto in a new Apple TV+ series about the spectacular rise and fall of WeWork. Let’s hope he doesn’t welcome her to the cast by sending her a dead rat.

-In today’s Actors on Actors interview, Amanda Seyfried tells Vanessa Kirby: “I wish I could redo ‘Les Miz’ completely, because the whole live singing aspect just — I still have nightmares about it”.

-This is a great tribute to Cicely Tyson, who passed away yesterday. Lenny Kravitz, who was her godson, also posted a lovely tribute.

-Vanity Fair has gotten wind of Jessica Mulroney’s interview the National Post from last week. Unlike most Canadians, they seem unaware of the columnist and her, um, reputation.

-This oral history of the Super Bowl episode of Friends is packed with juicy tidbits! Brooke Shields‘ then-boyfriend Andre Agassi yelled at her after her dinner scene with Matt Leblanc (“I see him come down, pull Brooke aside and eviscerate her because he’s crazy-jealous. She’s reduced to tears! I broke the show for awhile, and the girls took Brooke aside and loved her, took care of her and got her back on that stage. She did great because of the support of those three. He was a jackass”). Matthew Perry flirted over fax with Julia Roberts. (“She was giving him these questionnaires like, “Why should I go out with you?” And everyone in the writers room helped him explain to her why.”) Chris Isaak couldn’t really act (“Such a swell guy. But his scenes with Phoebe? It was like working with a salmon”). Jean-Claude Van Damme showed up hours late and was too aggressive in his kissing scenes (“Having completely blown up our shooting day, we had to scramble. Then he’s unprepared and arrogant!”)

Tim Robbins has filed for divorce from Gratiela Brancusi — whom no one knew he was married to.

-The Armie Hammer stories continue to be messed up.

-I actually didn’t believe this was Demi Moore in the Fendi show until she posted the clip herself. But she’s since been photographed not looking … like that. Was it just contouring?

-Cyberpunk developers are asking players to please stop having sex with the Keanu Reeves avatar. What’s the point of playing, then?

Nick Robinson plays the founder of the darknet website Silk Road in a new trailer.

Jodie Turner-Smith, Anjelica Huston and Florence Welch for Gucci’s “Bloom”

Gucci’s new ad campaign features Anjelica Huston, Jodie Turner-Smith and Florence Welch. And it’s soundtracked by a Mazzy Star song! I immediately want to buy whatever perfume they’re selling.

Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix welcomed their first child together — a boy they named River in honor of Phoenix’s brother, the famous actor who died in 1993. I have to go cry forever.

-Another surprise celeb baby arrival: Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski welcomed a son.

-In other baby news, Game of Thrones stars Kit Harrington and Rose Leslie are expecting.

-The Demi Lovato/Max Ehrich split is getting messy messier. She’s reportedly embarrassed after he claimed on social media that he found out about their breakup through the media and that she’s allowing him to be “bullied” by her fans.

Gwyneth Paltrow celebrated her 48th birthday by posting a nude photo on Instagram and frankly, why not?

-In an interview with Empire, Sienna Miller revealed that Chadwick Boseman had taken a cut on his salary for 21 Bridges in order to fix the salary disparity she was facing. He told her: “You’re getting paid what you deserve, and what you’re worth.”

Eddie Redmayne (who once problematically played a trans woman) tries to have it both ways in a new interview: both decrying the hatred trans people get but jumping to J.K. Rowling’s defense.  “Though he disagreed with Rowling’s comments on the issue, he was alarmed by the ‘vitriol’ hurled at her on social media, which he termed ‘absolutely disgusting’, and which prompted him to write her a private note.”  I mean, if she didn’t want any vitriol directed her way, she could always stop baiting the entire internet?

-All heroes let you down eventually. It’s Sex Pistols’ John Lydon’s turn today.

-It’s wild to me that Katherine McPhee has been courting her gay fanbase for years, and yet is a Trump supporter.

-Meanwhile, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson endorsed Biden and the replies to his tweet are so, so disturbing. (Of course, many of them are bots.)

-In Mariah Carey‘s new book, she says she secretly recorded a grunge rock album in the ’90s. She’s since tweeted that she’s on “a quest to unearth the version of this album with my lead vocals and will not stop until we find it.”

-I kind of like the new pop-punky Machine Gun Kelly and Halsey song — which makes me hate myself a little.

-The fact that Beth Grant keeps replying to this tweet about how she’s been in everything and giving tidbits about each acting role is the wholesome Twitter content I need right now.

James Cameron says Avatar 2 is “100% done” filming and Avatar 3 is “95% complete” because they’ve been shooting in New Zealand. “We’re able to operate. We’re able to shoot and have a more or less normal life here. We were very fortunate, so I don’t see any roadblocks to us getting the picture finished, getting both pictures finished.” Sure, but do we believe him?

-The World’s A Little Blurry, the new documentary on Billie Eilish, is set to hit theaters and Apple TV Plus early next year.

-Julie and the Phantoms actor Jeremy Shada and his wife are selling t-shirts based on fan art and it all seems quite shady. There are whole think pieces to be written on fandoms who produce creative works and how their free labour is used.

-13 Reasons Why star Anne Winters really, really wants to play Madonna in the new biopic and doesn’t care who knows. This seems so thirsty to me but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do these days.

-The BTS boys just became millionaires today (and their producer became a billionaire) thanks to an impressive initial public offering of their label Big Hit Entertainment.

-I’m going to incorporate Rihanna’s “but continue” rebuttal into every terrible work email I have to reply to from now on.

Richard Jenkins plays a fast food employee who must train a new person before he retires in the trailer for The Last Shift.
