–Sandra Oh has been named one of People’s People of the Year, and talked about inspiring others (“It means so much to me to be on this cover. When I was growing up, I never saw my face on the cover. To be asked to be on the cover is a great privilege, because it normalizes things for my nephews and nieces”) and how her impromptu speech at a Stop Asian Hate rally went viral (“There was a lot of pain and outrage, and when that happens, you need to gather together. That’s the only way to get through. If you’re standing side by side with someone who’s not your gender or not your race, you can go, ‘Okay, we have commonality.’ We need to move through fear”).

–Michael B. Jordan covers THR and talks about growing his empire (“To be young, Black and successful — and disruptive — in this industry, there’s a certain navigation to get to the place I need to get to. And you try to hold that moment and stay in it for as long as you can”) and posting about his relationship with Lori Harvey on social media (“There’s a premeditated planning of staying out of the way [of the public eye] that sometimes kills spontaneity and intimacy. I wanted to take that away and give this the best chance it had, in this weird world that we live in, to be somewhat normal”).

–Ben Affleck talked to Wall Street Journal’s magazine about second chances — both in his career and in his love life. However, he’s trying to create boundaries when it comes to sharing details. When asked about Jennifer Lopez, he said, “You can write conjecture about it, but one of the harder lessons that I have learned is that it’s not wise to share everything with the world. There are some things which are private and intimate and have meaning in terms of their intimacy by dint of the fact that they’re not shared with the rest of the world. I’m more comfortable just learning to find a boundary between things that I want to share and things that I don’t.”

–Alec Baldwin gave an “intense” post-Rust interview to ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos. It’ll air tomorrow, but they released a clip of him tearing up.

-Everyone’s sharing their Spotify Wrapped lists today. In the meantime, Spotify announced that Bad Bunny edged out Taylor Swift for the coveted title of their most-streamed artist of 2021.  This marks the second year in a row for him to get the honour — and he didn’t even release a new album this year.

-Succession’s J. Smith-Cameron says she has “no issue” being a sex symbol. We don’t have an issue with it, either!

-Meanwhile, Matthew Macfadyen discussed which of Tom’s relationships is more secure: Shiv or Greg.

–Sandra Bullock was on Red Table Talk and discussed her terrifying home invasion in 2014 (“The violation of that. I wasn’t the same after that, I was unraveling…I haven’t been alone since the day it happened”), and how she told her photographer boyfriend Bryan Randall that she was adopting another child (“We hadn’t been together that long and I go “You remember that NDA you signed when you photographed my son [at the birthday party where we met?] You know that still holds?’ And he said “Yeah, ok, why?’ And is said, “Cause I’m bringing a child home when I come back from Toronto”).

-Awful: legendary music exec Clarence Avant‘s wife was shot and killed in a home invasion robbery.

-Four more families have turned down Travis Scott’s offer to pay for the funerals of family members who died at Astroworld.

-Congrats to Kathy Griffin, who told Jimmy Kimmel that she’s officially cancer-free.

-Shawn Mendes apparently wants joint custody of a dog named Tarzan following his split with Camila Cabello.

-Yellowjackets is a new show that seems to be sneaking onto people’s radar. I wonder if it’ll end up on some Best of 2021 lists?

-Speaking of Best of lists, I’m surprise how many movie ones have Drive My Car on them. I gave up on that film an hour and a half in.

-Only Murders in the Building has started shooting season 2!

-Should I start watching the Great British Bake-off? Everyone who does just seems really happy with that decision.

Angelina Jolie Sparkles in Rome

–Angelina Jolie and her daughters Zahara and Shiloh were stunning at the Eternal premiere in Rome. This is the best dress she’s worn in ages.  (Her extensions were weak, though.)

-Speaking of the Eternals press tour style, Gemma Chan has been flawless.

-There’s lots of talk that there’s trouble in paradise for John Mulaney and Olivia Munn. Us Weekly is quoting a source who says, “Olivia and John still have to decide what kind of future they’re going to have together, if any. It’s a time of uncertainty, for both of them.” Meanwhile, DeuxMoi is posting blinds about them splitting up.

-Ex Bachelor host Chris Harrison is engaged to Entertainment Tonight reporter Lauren Zima. I appreciate that neither of their IG posts made a joke about giving each other a rose.

-SNL is reportedly scrambling to replace Ed Sheeran as a musical guest after he revealed he tested positive for COVID, and The Mountain Goats have volunteered as tribute.

-In a new stand-up video, Dave Chappelle denies reports that he refused to meet with Netflix’s transgender employees. “That is not true — if they had invited me I would have accepted it, although I am confused about what we would be speaking about.” He added, “To the transgender community, I am more than willing to give you an audience, but you will not summon me. I am not bending to anybody’s demands.”

–Kristen Stewart says she’s only proud of 5 movies on her resume. Which ones could they be?!?

-I heartily endorse this video encouraging people to binge the fifth season of The Good Fight. Maybe my fave season yet?

-A search warrant obtained by the L.A. Times details what happened on the set of Rust and in cinematographer Halyna Hutchins‘ final minutes. Alec Baldwin was practicing removing a revolver from its holster and aiming toward the camera during rehearsal. He had been given the gun by the AD, who incorrectly declared it “cold,” which is a term used to describe a weapon that contains no live rounds.

-The showrunner of ABC’s The Rookie is the first to ban live fire from his set following the accident. It’s a good start, but I hope the bigger conversation revolves around how crew members need to be better trained, paid and rested.

–Paul Walker‘s daughter got married, and his Fast and the Furious costar Vin Diesel walked her down the aisle in place of her late father.

-The Ruby Rose vs CW/WBTV feud continues. In a new statement, Warner Bros. Television “condemned” Rose’s recent allegations about her TV dad on Batwoman, Dougray Scott. “Warner Bros. has found Mr. Scott to be a consummate professional, and never received any allegation against him of bullying, or of abusive behavior on his part. Mr. Scott was greatly respected and admired by his colleagues, and was a leader on the set.”

-Meanwhile, Rose dropped another bunch of screenshots on Instagram Stories but they’re really hard to read and the messaging is confusing. If she has allegations/proof that the set is unsafe I wish she’d figure out a better way to release it. (It also doesn’t help that her first drop included the incorrect claim that Batwoman didn’t shut down production for Covid until after The Flash, Supergirl and Riverdale. The latter shut down a couple of days before the other CW shows because of a positive test, but the rest all shut down the same day.)

-Also not helping her case, a PA on the show called her a “dictator to work for.”  (She says he wasn’t on the call sheet and didn’t work there, but other crew members came to his defense.)

–Jim Caviezel has fallen all the way down the Q rabbit hole.

–James Michael Tyler, who played Gunther on Friends, has passed away at age 59 after a battle with prostate cancer.

–Dylan Sprouse and Virginia Gardner have been cast in the movie adaptation of Beautiful Disasters. I can’t believe of all the amazing romance novels out there to adapt, they’re going ahead with this book. Not only has this adaptation been struggling to get off the ground for a decade, but lots of people think the book is problematic. Plus, the author keeps creating shitstorms with her social media posts, whether it’s her racists talk, her fatphobia or her anti-v*xx crap.

–Brendan Fraser will play the villain in HBO Max’s Batgirl movie. Love this for him.

–Nina Dobrev and Abigail Cowen star in the Redeeming Love trailer.

Nicolas Cage Flaunts His Love

–Nicolas Cage and his new wife, Riko Shibata, cover Flaunt magazine. The pair were married earlier this year.

-My god, with every new detail about the shooting on the Rust movie set, it gets more awful. Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed and director Joel Souza was hurt in rehearsals for a scene with a gun involving Alec Baldwin. There were some unconfirmed posts on social media suggesting the crew had previously complained about conditions on the set, and now the LA Times is reporting that a half-dozen camera crew workers walked off the set earlier in the day to protest working conditions, and they were replaced by non-union workers. A source told the Times that there were two misfires on the prop gun on Saturday and one the previous week, and “there was a serious lack of safety meetings on this set.”

–Baldwin, who must be wrecked from this, tweeted a statement: “There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours. I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”

-One good thing: director Joel Souza is out of the hospital.

-Veteran actor Peter Scolari has passed away from cancer at 66. He starred in Newhart, Bosom Buddies, and most recently as Lena Dunham’s dad in Girls.

–Jason Sudeikis brings some Ted Lasso energy to his SNL promo.

–Sudeikis also helped promote Mythic Quest’s renewal news.

-Ghost seems to be the rare bright spot on the networks’ fall TV schedule, and CBS has already renewed it.

-For some reason I thought The Eternals was out this weekend but it’s not until next weekend. Early reactions are good, though.

-Wow, the ‘bad art friend’ story has totally fallen apart, huh?

-In perfect casting news, Ryan Gosling is in final negotiations to play Ken in Greta Gerwig‘s live-action Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie.

-This was definitely a no bones week.

–Jake Gyllenhaal stars in Michael Bay’s new movie, Ambulance, about a bank robber who hijacks an ambulance as a getaway car.
