Nicole-Kidman-Javier-Bardem-Being-Ricardo

-In their THR cover story, Oscar winners Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem revealed that they both tried to get out of Being the Ricardos a month before they were scheduled to start shooting.

-Oof, Ben Affleck is getting roasted for all the headlines pulling his quote about how his drinking came from feeling “trapped” in his marriage to Jennifer Garner. It was indeed some shitty, bullshit projecting, but he did say lots of nice things about her in that interview, too.

-Meanwhile, Affleck had a fantastic answer when asked why he thinks The Last Duel flopped at the box office. “It wasn’t one of those films that you say, ‘Oh boy, I wish my movie had worked.’ Instead, this is more due to a seismic shift that I’m seeing, and I’m having this conversation with every single person I know…One of the fundamental ways it’s changing is that the people who want to see complicated, adult, non-IP dramas are the same people who are saying to themselves, ‘You know what? I don’t need to go out to a movie theater because I’d like to pause it, go to the bathroom, finish it tomorrow.’ It’s that, along with the fact that you can watch with good quality at home.”

Keanu Reeves continues to age like a fine wine.

Will Forte and Seth Meyers went day drinking and things got really messy, really fast. (How far they take the “if you make me break, I will do a shot” bit is insane. “I cheated on my wife there!”)

-Here’s our first glimpse of Amanda Seyfried as Elizabeth Holmes in Hulu’s The Dropout.

Alan Ruck is the latest Succession costar to defend Jeremy Strong‘s New Yorker profile: “Well, this is what I think. I think The New Yorker came to Jeremy. They said, “We want to do a piece about you because you’re a wonderful actor and you have this eccentric way of preparing. We think that’s a good story. You want to do it?” And he said, “Yeah,” and he said, “Yes, I do do all those things. I do whatever it takes to bring a character to life”…That’s what he believes he needs to do to get himself into his zone so he can deliver his best work. And does that make him crazy? No. Does that make him a better actor? Well, he thinks it does, but there’s a lot of other actors who are just as good who don’t do that…So I didn’t think that piece was a hit piece. Some people said, “Oh, it was an attack on Jeremy.” I didn’t think that at all. I mean, they laid out these facts. So, this is what this guy does and this is how he prepares, and this is what he’s like on set.”

-Meanwhile, I love this thread on Shiv’s outfits this season. Ever since she left politics and tried to join the corporate world, everything she wears is just a smidge ill-fitting.

-Pitch Perfect’s Adam Devine married Chloe Bridges in Cabo and Vogue has the photos (that kissing one is shockingly awkward). Rebel Wilson and Devine’s Workaholics co-stars Blake Anderson and Anders Holm attended.

-The Good Place’s Manny Jacinto is flaunting it in Flaunt Magazine.

-I’m bummed that Guillermo del Toro’s latest Oscar contender Nightmare Alley with Cate Blanchett and Bradley Cooper isn’t getting better reviews.

-If you’re in any way interested in superhero movies, avoid YouTube’s homepage today because there’s a video that very clearly spoils Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent trailer stars Nicolas Cage as himself and Pedro Pascal as a wealthy fan.

Jennifer Lopez is a Visionary

jennifer lopez on the adweek cover

Jennifer Lopez covers the new issue of Adweek, who has given her their Brand Visionary award. Ben Affleck was asked to weigh in and said, “All I can tell you is that I have seen firsthand the difference representation makes because I have seen, over and over and over and over, women of color approach Jennifer and tell her what her example as a strong woman and a woman succeeding and demanding her fair share in the business world means to them. I am in awe of what Jennifer’s effect on the world is.”

-Yet another Britney Spears doc is coming, this one from Netflix, who just released a short teaser.

Jake Gyllenhaal screened his new movie The Guilty and told the audience that rumours of a showering strike were greatly exaggerated. “It was an answer to a question where I was being sarcastic and ironic and it’s followed me around ever since. I showered before I came here, so I’m sorry!”

-The Ted Lasso crew held a “friends and family” Emmys afterparty that featured karaoke, the famous biscuits and a birthday cake for Jason Sudeikis. I love that Brendan Hunt wore the pants from the last episode!

-This could rock the entertainment world: For the first time in its history, IATSE, which is made up of over 375 unions representing every discipline of film and tv labour, is preparing to strike after the latest contract talks between the organization and producers faltered. The stories about TV and film crew members being overworked and exploited seems to have reached the tipping point with the sudden popularity of this anonymous Instagram account.

Kathryn Hahn is set to play Joan Rivers in a limited Showtime series called The Comeback Girl.

-A Pitch Perfect TV series has been ordered at Peacock. The series is set several years after the events of the films, with Adam Devine returning as Bumper, who moves to Germany to revive his music career when one of his songs becomes big in Berlin. It’s got good bones: Elizabeth Banks will produce, while The Good Place’s Megan Amram will be the showrunner.

Uma Thurman penned an op-ed condemning Texas’ anti-abortion law and shared her “darkest secret”: she had an abortion in her teens.

-Meanwhile, David Simon just pulled his new HBO project out of Texas because of the law.

Amy Schumer revealed she is recovering from surgery after having her uterus and appendix removed due to “painful and debilitating” endometriosis: “I’m gonna try to share this story at some point to raise awareness because so many people don’t even know the word endometriosis.”

-Family Guy included a PSA on how vaccines work. That’s where we’re at now. Baby Stewie has to explain science.

JoJo Siwa quickstepped her way to history in her Dancing with the Stars debut. She’s the first female celeb to be paired with a female pro.

Cassandra Peterson, better known as Elvira, revealed she’s been in a relationship with a woman for 19 years.

When asked about the comparisons of Gerard Butler‘s 2009 film Gamer to the recent action flick Free Guy, Butler responded “I actually don’t know what Free Guy is.’ When his Copshop costar Alexis Louder explained, he said “Oh shit, is it? … I don’t watch Ryan Reynolds movies.” LOL

-I really like the Vulture series where they ask an actor a bunch of questions about a random role on their resume. Up today is Richard E. Grant talking about Spice World.

-Fans are having issues with the ending of Sally Rooney‘s Beautiful World, Where Are You. There are 944 people ahead of me in the library hold, so I will never know.

-Here’s the first trailer for Joel Coen’s The Tragedy Of Macbeth, starring Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand.

-And here’s the trailer for Netflix’s Passing, Rebecca Hall’s directorial debut starring Tessa Thompson and Ruth Negga. Set in ’20s Harlem, a Black housewife (Thompson) suffering through a quiet emotional breakdown reunites with a childhood friend (Negga) who’s now passing as a wealthy white woman. I still find it weird that Hall’s the one to tell this story, but the trailer is impressive.

Daisy Ridley Talks Fame, Family and Fiancée

daisy-ridley-marie-claire

-In her Marie Claire cover storyDaisy Ridley discusses the emotional toll her Star Wars fame has had on her family (“It’s super invasive. We went to a wedding recently, and it was uncomfortable for me because people were really rude. They don’t act like normal human beings. And then, not only did I not have a good time, but then my mum was upset and then my sisters are upset. So it’s tricky”), and declines to address rumours she’s engaged (“It’s a really nice ring that I wear. Oh my God. It’s the first time I’ve publicly been asked this…The thing is, I’ve never talked about my personal life. So I won’t talk about it now”).

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello had a smoochy good time at the Raptors game last night.

-The reviews are out for Charlie’s Angels, which opens this weekend, and most are positive — especially about Kristen Stewart’s performance.

-I’ve been trying to figure out which dress in this photo I hate the most and I honesty can’t decide? They’re all so bad, but Jennifer Garner‘s pulls ahead just slightly IMO.

-The Cats movie is delayed and may miss some award consideration. If it doesn’t hit the Golden Globes deadline, what was even the point?

-Also, for some inexplicable reason, the Golden Globes has decided to bring back Ricky Gervais to host.

Adam Devine says everyone always confuses him with Adam Levine. I’m sorry, but he wishes.

-The entire cast of Days of Our Lives has been released from their contracts and production has halted indefinitely. It shoots a ridiculous 8 months in advance (compared to other soaps, which are usually 1-2 months) so the show will still have enough episodes to run until summer and fix their weird delay. But the fear is that if the show does end up getting renewed next year, Corday Productions will be able to offer the actors new contacts at a reduced rate. Shady stuff.

-This is an excellent, excellent piece on Edward Norton and how is once-acclaimed performances — which tend to be labored and physically precise — in movies like Primal Fear haven’t aged well.

-In news that will shock absolutely no one who watched the series finale, the producers of Gossip Girl revealed that they hadn’t originally planned to have Dan be the secret society stalker — it was supposed to be Eric or Nate.

Alex Trebek got choked up when a contestant used his final Jeopardy answer to pay tribute to the host.

-Variety’s Actors on Actors interviews continue, with the latest being between Brad Pitt and Adam Sandler, and Laura Dern and Sterling K Brown.

-Hulu announced that there are no plans for more Veronica Mars and frankly based on how the last season ended, I’m ok with that.

-If you’ve seen Last Christmas, here’s a funny piece on that bananas (but oh so predictable) ending.

-Millie Bobby Brown no longer looks like Millie Bobby Brown.

-Not surprisingly, Disney+ was a clusterf**k this morning as millions of people tried to download it and log in. I have no idea why they wouldn’t make the app available a few days ago so that everyone could download it and set up their profiles first.

-For those who did get to log in, they seemed to like The Mandalorian, which is getting decent reviews.

-When asked if Werner Herzog felt pressure working with Jon Favreau on The Mandalorian, he replied “I do not know what other films he has made” — which is glorious shade. (To be fair, elsewhere in the interview he praises Favreau’s abilities as a Hollywood power broker.)

-There was also a lot of deleted scenes released on the platform from the Avengers movies, including this scene of Tony with his grown daughter in Endgame.

-I don’t have Disney+ but I would like to watch this holiday movie starring Anna Kendrick and Bill Hader.
