Gwen Stefani Repeatedly Insists She’s Japanese

This interview with Gwen Stefani, in which she reflects on the backlash to her Harajuku phase 14 years later, is stunningly tone deaf. She repeatedly tells the Asian interviewer she’s Japanese: “As an adult, she was able to travel to Harajuku to see them herself. ‘I said, ‘My God, I’m Japanese and I didn’t know it.” As those words seemed to hang in the air between us, she continued, ‘I am, you know.’ She then explained that there is ‘innocence’ to her relationship with Japanese culture, referring to herself as a ‘super fan.'” And then she digs her heels in and it somehow gets even worse?

-I was definitely on Prince Harry’s side after watching the Netflix doc (and continue to be!) but I agree with this piece on how this press tour is getting exasperating to watch. Ryan Reynolds used ChatGPT to write an ad for his mobile company– and it did a surprisingly good job.

Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira‘s Walking Dead show has been pushed to 2024, but in news that will please much of my TL, the working title is The Walking Dead: Rick and Michonne.

-HBO’s The Last of Us debuts this weekend, and the reviews are glowing. I’m surprised by how many critics are talking about how emotional it made them.

Jonathan Majors is featured more in the latest trailer for Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania.

-Joaquin Phoenix is Beau, a man trying to get home to see his mom, in the creepy first trailer for Beau Is Afraid, the new film from Midsommar director Ari Aster.
