Lupita Nyong’o Pays Tribute to Chadwick Boseman

Lupita Nyong’o on the cover of THR

-In her THR cover storyLupita Nyong’o says she’s glad Marvel didn’t recast Chadwick Boseman (“That is not the death of the Black Panther, that’s the whole point. It’s laying to rest [T’Challa] and allowing for real life to inform the story of the movies. I know that there are all sorts of reasons why people want him to be recast, but I don’t have the patience. I don’t have the presence of mind, or I don’t have the objectivity to argue with that. I don’t. I’m very biased”), and says she learned how to be a “cool aunt” to her sister’s 5-year-old from her aunt who was an actress in Kenyan theater (“My schooling was very conservative, but my aunt was wild. She had hairstyles that nobody else had. She shaved her head. She gave me space to explore my femininity on my own terms. At some point, I shaved my head. She gave me courage to be daring”).

-Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is tracking for massive $175 million opening next month. It’s weird but I feel like the marketing for it has been really subdued, considering it’s out Nov 11. There’s only been one full trailer so far.

Billie Eilish is apparently dating The Neighbourhood singer Jesse Rutherford. Her fans are not happy that she’s 20 and he’s 31, and he’s known her since she was a teen.

-I loved Amal Clooney’s dress at the Ticket to Paradise premiere. (It only works if you ignore the shoes, tho.)

-This was a cute moment between Issa Rae and Anne Hathaway at the Elle Women in Hollywood event. “I’m so sorry but heaven is calling” is a very lovely thing to say, especially since they hadn’t met before.

-Friends’ Matthew Perry says he spent two weeks in a coma in 2018 from opioid overuse. “The doctors told my family that I had a 2 percent chance to live. I was put on a thing called an ECMO machine, which does all the breathing for your heart and your lungs. And that’s called a Hail Mary. No one survives that.”

-I didn’t even know that Kathryn Hahn and Sarah Silverman were feuding but apparently they’ve buried the hatchet.

Anna Faris has identified the late Ivan Reitman as the director she accused of inappropriate behavior in 2017, calling the incident ‘one of my hardest film experiences.’ “He was a yeller. He would bring down somebody every day, and my first day it was me…Later, he slapped my ass too. That was a weird moment.”

-I don’t want to give Johnny Depp any credit ever, but I do want his shirt. (The river that runs through New Brunswick is currently called the Saint John River, but there’s a push to return it to it’s original indigenous name, Wolastoq. This is a cause I believe in and I’m glad the word is getting out, but I just wish it was being promoted by literally ANY other celeb.)

Megan Fox posted some pics on IG and her engagement ring is nowhere to be seen.

-Season three of the Morning Show keeps tempting me with its casting. The latest addition is Natalie Morales.

-Lionsgate is giving Anna Kendrick‘s psychological thriller Alice, Darling an Oscar-qualifying run on Dec. 30 before the pic’s nationwide release in 2023. I really liked this movie at TIFF.

-This is a fantastic oral history of Lilo & Stitch — the Disney movie that almost brought hand-drawn animation back. 20 years later, the people who made it still marvel at what they were able to pull off with a Florida animation studio and little money or time.

-Sigh. Netflix will charge account holders $3-$4/month for having users from outside their household use their account.

-Here’s the trailer for season 5 of The Crown. Wow, Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana looks amazing.
