Anya Taylor Joy Is Ready for a Break

Anya Taylor Joy covers Vogue Australia to promote The Menu. She keeps mum on rumours that she married musician Malcolm McRae (“I think when people want to say something, they say something”), and talks about filming so many projects in a row (“It took me a second to realise that my peers were not working in the fashion that I was. It was only in acquiring more friends within the industry, they were like, ‘We take breaks in between these films!’ And I just never did that. I didn’t think that was what the life of an actor was”).

-In a new interview with HungerChloë Grace Moretz slammed the Family Guy-themed meme that mocked her body. “I basically became a recluse. Body dysmorphia – which we all deal with in this world – is extrapolated by the issues of social media. It’s a headf*ck…And to this day, when I see that meme, it’s something very hard for me to overcome…It made me severely anxious when I was photographed. My heart rate would rise and I would hyperventilate.”

-This is a fantastic profile on Christine Baranski, who talks about saying goodbye to Diane Lockhart. (I didn’t even realize the new season of The Good Fight was airing until reading this!) Josh Charles tweeted, “Talking about her for this interview made me realize just how much I miss and adore this woman.”

-In a new GQ interview, Billy Eichner talks about why he wanted to make Bros. “90% of gay stories involve someone coming out of the closet for the first time. They can barely kiss someone. [Bros] is the opposite. These guys may have emotional hang-ups & intimacy issues but these guys are 40-year-old gay men in Manhattan. They f*ck.”

Jeremy Strong braved headlines for a new profile — this one in THR. “There’s a lot of mythologizing about my process,” he said and talked about wearing Kendall Roy’s baseball cap throughout the duration of production on Succession, while avoiding referring to the character by name: “It reifies. I’m in the middle of filming now, so anything that separates ‘you’ from ‘them’ is not useful.”

Hailey Bieber denied there was any overlap between her relationship with Justin Bieber and his with Selena Gomez. She also said, “If [asking her fans to stop harassing me] was something she felt was necessary, that would be amazing. But I just respect her, there’s no drama, personally… [She] has been in this industry much longer than I have, and maybe there’s something she knows about [internet harassment], and it wouldn’t fix anything.”

-This is the best analysis I’ve read yet about the Try Guys drama.

-Here’s a timeline of all the allegations made against Amsterdam director David O. Russell (who’s way messier than Olivia Wilde) throughout the course of his career.

-Meanwhile, the reviews of Amsterdam are withering.

Keenan Thompson‘s estranged wife is reportedly dating his former SNL co-star Chris Redd. Is this why Redd is leaving SNL?

-This excellent piece on the new, unauthorized Anthony Bourdain biography makes me never want to read it. His family, former co-workers and closest friends do not support the book, and the author talks about how he doesn’t “respect him killing himself” (wtf?) and seems to lay blame on one particular person for a final text exchange that must already haunt her. It’s all very gross.

-Speaking of articles that didn’t make me want to engage with the project it’s talking about, this is a very good interview with the director of Blonde, Andrew Dominik. Despite not liking the movie, the critic approaches the interview with genuine intellectual curiosity, but Dominik’s answers grow worse as the conversation goes on.

-The next Star Trek from J.J. Abrams has been removed from Paramount’s 2023 calendar. But did anyone warn its stars this time?

-This is awful: writer and TV producer Zack Estrin, who was the showrunner of Prison Break and Lost in Space, has died at 51 of an apparent heart attack.

-Game of Thrones’ star Maisie Williams tearily talked up about her traumatic relationship with her father, whom she says “indoctrinated” her into a “child cult” against her mother. Here’s the clip.

Lisa Kudrow will lead Taika Waititi’s adaption of the Terry Gilliam novel Time Bandits for Apple TV+. The series follows a geeky kid (Kal-El Tuck) who discovers a time warp in his closet, and costars Charlyne Yi, Rachel House and Rune Temte.

-On one hand, I want so much more for Colton Haynes‘ career than Lifetime movies, but on the other hand, no one will understand the camp of playing seductive twin swindlers like him.

Paramore is back with a new single and video.

Kathy Najimy, Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker hit the red carpet at the Hocus Pocus 2 premiere. I forgot that this movie hits Disney+ on Friday. Yay!

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman confirmed that Deadpool 3 won’t mess with Logan’s timeline. “Logan takes place in 2029. Totally separate thing. Logan died in Logan. Not touching that.”

-Meanwhile, it’s ridiculous that people are opining about how Jackman is returning to superhero movies because he realized he couldn’t make as much money doing arthouse stuff. This man has spent decades doing high/low films, Broadway, live shows, etc. He knows the score.

George Clooney saved Julia Roberts from a fly while they were talking about Ticket to Paradise. God, I can’t wait for this movie.

-Here’s the first trailer for TÁR, which is getting Oscar buzz for Cate Blanchett.
