Adele Is Ready for Residency

Adele wears a fur coat on the cover of September's Elle

Adele covers Elle’s September issue and talks about postponing her Vegas residency, saying it “was the worst moment in my career, by far. I was so excited about those shows. It was devastating…There was just no soul in it. The stage setup wasn’t right. It was very disconnected from me and my band, and it lacked intimacy. And maybe I tried too hard to give it those things in such a controlled environment.”

Johnny Depp is living large: he’ll direct his first movie in 25 years with the artist biopic Modigliani, with Al Pacino co-producing.

-The Better Call Saul series finale is tonight. I’m not ready.

Tom Holland posted a rare video to Instagram to promote the charity Stem4, and explained that he’s been taking a social media break for his mental health.  “I find Instagram and Twitter to be overstimulating, to be overwhelming — I get caught up and I spiral when I read things about me online. And ultimately it’s very detrimental to my mental state so I decided to take a step back and delete the app.”

-Say what you will about Chris Pratt, but Bryce Dallas Howard says that he helped get more money from Universal after she was paid much less than him for the Jurassic Park movies. “When I started negotiating for Jurassic, it was 2014, and it was a different world, and I was at a great disadvantage. And, unfortunately, you have to sign up for three movies, and so your deals are set…What I will say is that Chris and I have discussed it, and whenever there was an opportunity to move the needle on stuff that hadn’t been already negotiated, like a game or a ride, he literally told me, ‘You guys don’t even have to do anything. I’m gonna do all the negotiating. We’re gonna be paid the same and you don’t have to think about this, Bryce.’ I love him so much for doing that. I really do, because I’ve been paid more for those kinds of things than I ever was for the movie.”

-Netflix is facing backlash from viewers accusing them of depicting racism and pro-military propaganda in Purple Hearts.

-I hate these boots on Rihanna. I’m sorry!

-Pour one out for The CW — it’s been sold to local TV giant Nexstar. The most surprising thing about the announcement is that the head of Nexstar says they plan to shift the network’s demographic focus to the age of its average viewer – 58 years old. It’s wild to me that the average demo for a network filled with teen shows is so old, but if people that age are enjoying that type of content, why replace it with content you assume they’d prefer? Also, as others have pointed out, they’re probably only counting people who watch CW shows on an actual TV, not through the CW app, Netflix, etc., which undoubtedly skews older. In any case, it looks like the network as we know it will be no more.
