-In her newsletter, Jennifer Lopez shared more details about her engagement, including that Ben Affleck asked her when she was in the tub. “I was taken totally off guard and just looked in his eyes smiling and crying at the same time trying hard to get my head around the fact that after 20 years this was happening all over again.”
–Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly are allowed to have a fight — or at least one moment when one of them doesn’t want the other draped all over them. I don’t know why this video is news?
–Johnny Depp and Amber Heard‘s defamation trial has gotten ugly, fast. In opening remarks, his lawyer said, “She is preparing to give the performance of a lifetime in this trial.” Meanwhile, her lawyer said, “It’s about the freedom of speech. It’s not about the soap opera that Depp will turn this case into. It’s not about who you like better. It’s not even about whether you agree with the words that she wrote. It’s about her right to speak them.”
-A Hawaii couple has dropped their petition for a restraining order against Ezra Miller.
–Cuba Gooding Jr. pleaded guilty to one count of forcible touching in a criminal case that accused him of violating three different women at Manhattan nightclubs in 2018 and 2019.
–Camila Cabello opted for a Canadian tuxedo on the Today Show. Diesel has been doing some really interesting things lately; this isn’t it.
-People seem concerned by Brie Larson’s career choices but I love it. She’s got Marvel money now so she can do whatever she wants — including mindless action movies. (I do wish she’d hire a better social media manager, tho.)
–Dan Stevens is my hero for this.
-I haven’t watched any Bon Appétit videos since their big scandal awhile back, but now Brad is reportedly dealing with a botulism scandal.
-The Flash’s original cast member Jesse L. Martin is stepping down as a regular because he’s set to headline a new NBC drama. I haven’t watched TF in years, but they never really seemed to know what to do with him.
-Meanwhile, there’s talk of The Flash coming to an end with a shortened final season.
–Amy Schumer’s Life & Beth has been renewed at Hulu. I actually liked the first few episodes I saw of this, but Michael Cera‘s character creeped me out too much to continue.-
-This is an interesting look at how Apple TV has quickly become one of the best streaming services. Beyond Ted Lasso, the only thing I (hate)watched on it was The Morning Show, and now all of the sudden there’s critically beloved series like Severance, Pachinko, Slow Horses, etc.
-Speaking of a sudden influx of TV, Russian Doll’s season two is getting great reviews. This, Barry, Better Call Saul, and The Flight Attendant are all coming back in the same week.
–Edward Zwick posted another Twitter thread about his directing career, this one on sex scenes. Tidbits include “Brad [Pitt]’s greatest concern was having make-up applied to his butt”, “Rob [Lowe] began to groan so loudly it embarrassed everyone. It turned out he had torn his ACL”, and “On our last day [of Love & Other Drugs], [Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal] had the prop department fashion an award called ‘The Golden Merkin.’ We all crawled into bed for a picture. The marketing department photo-shopped me out of the shot that became the poster.”
-Well this sucks: Warner Bros. has complied with the Chinese government and removed lines from the new Fantastic Beasts movie that confirms the gay relationship between Dumbledore and Grindelwald.
-I really liked this piece on the influences behind Everything Everywhere All at Once. I only clocked Wong Kar-wai’s In the Mood for Love and (obviously) Ratatouille. Don’t read about this movie until you see it, though. I basically went into it blind and was so surprised by everything.
-This is an interesting look at the history of method acting and what Jared Leto is doing doesn’t really qualify. I like Will Poulter’s take on it: “When it comes to an actor’s process, whatever that is so long as it doesn’t infringe on other people’s and you’re being considerate, then fine. But if your process creates an inhospitable environment, then to me you’ve lost sight of what’s important. Method acting shouldn’t be used as an excuse for inappropriate behavior — and it definitely has.”
–Jennifer Lopez‘s Netflix documentary Halftime has been selected to open the Tribeca Film Festival.
–Jessica Biel goes after Melanie Lynskey in the new trailer for Hulu’s 5-night true crime miniseries Candy.
