The Academy Overreacts to Will Smith

-The Academy has banned Will Smith from returning to the Oscars or attending any other Academy events for the next 10 years. That’s…insane. This is going to open up the Academy to questions about other people they let attend that I’m pretty sure they’re not ready to answer.

Smith has responded, saying “I accept and respect the Academy’s decision.”

-Meanwhile, Ricky Gervais defended Chris Rock’s joke in a really gross way. “That was like the tamest joke I would ever have told. Someone said it was joking about her disability. Well, [my hair’s] going a bit thin, so I’m disabled.”

-Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson made their public debut last night, attending the premiere of her family’s next reality show together.

Jennifer Lopez is wearing a giant diamond ring, so now everyone’s speculating about a possible engagement.

-The state of entertainment journalism is so bad that in the new Interview magazine, Donald Glover is interviewed…by himself. I find the whole thing wildly pretentious (he keeps asking for clarifications on the questions — that he came up with!), which he actually touches on (“Like, people think I’m pretentious. I can be a snob. But I think in entertainment or art it’s important to know the difference between things. Like, Anthony Bourdain wasn’t pretentious, but he definitely knew the difference between a dry aged wagyu and a smash burger”). He also has very high praise for his album Because the Internet (“It’s the rap OK Computer. It’s prescient in tone and subject matter and it’s extremely influential. And I know no one’s gonna give me that until I’m dead. But it’s true”), and stands by his comments that Atlanta is on the same level as The Sopranos (“I’m not saying this to be pompous. I’m saying that because we deserve it”).

-The oversized suit jackets on men trend continues with Jake Gyllenhaal’s SNL promo.

-Dancing With The Stars s leaving ABC after 16 years and heading to Disney+.

Diane Kruger says fiancé Norman Reedus bought a house without telling her. “We looked at it, it was pretty, but we live in New York. So, then he drops me off and I come out of my table read and there’s like 50 messages that start with, ‘I love that house. I stayed another hour. What do you think?’ Next message, ‘Should we move to California? How bout we make an offer? You know what? I made an offer. We got the house.'” I would kill him.

-Here’s the trailer for The Wilds season two. I really hope the success of Yellowjackets turns people on to this show.
