Yes, of course social media followings do not translate into book sales. Yes, Billie Eilish and Justin Timberlake’s fans of their music don’t automatically want to buy their books. No one can predict what’s going to blow up and what’s not. That’s why that book about a woman milking a centaur came out of nowhere to become the most buzzed book on socials this year.
