Kate Middleton Is Not Having It with Prince William

Kate Middleton Prince William people cover

-Is it just me, or are Prince William and Kate Middleton in the middle of a sudden PR blitz? Maybe they’re doing damage control because of this super awkward clip that everyone can’t stop sharing of her shrugging his hand off her shoulder?

-The Hollywood Reporter has a story on why Ruth Wilson left The Affair, and wow is it even worse than speculation suggested. Sources say she wanted to leave the show because of ongoing frustrations with her character’s gratuitous nudity, and friction with showrunner Sarah Treem and exec producer Jeffrey Reiner — who reportedly once cornered Lena Dunham at a restaurant and asked if she would have dinner alone with Wilson to persuade her to “show her tits, or at least some vag.” Reiner then reportedly pulled out his phone to show Dunham a graphic photo of “a mutual friend with a cock next to her face” — which was reportedly a shot of Maura Tierney and a nude male actor taken from filming in a closed set.

-Yikes. The Rise of Skywalker is currently at 59% rotten with 204 reviews counted. (This review is particularly brutal.) It’s like the franchise has made concessions for the loudest, most sexist portion of the fanbase.

Emily Gordon posted a photo proving that a buff Kumail Nanjiani is still a geeky Kumail Nanjiani.

John Legend invited all of The Voice judges to his house for dinner and Chrissy Teigen didn’t know it was the night of the show’s finale, and she roasted John on Twitter for not giving her time to plan something elaborate.

Jennifer Lopez pulled her 74-year-old mother up on stage to dance for her birthday and I wish I could move like that now, let alone at her age.

Brad Pitt attended Jennifer Aniston’s tree-trimming party. (Sadly, not a euphemism.)

-Also, Pitt turned 56 yesterday.

Camila Cabello took to social media to apologize for using the n-word when she was younger. I don’t think anyone was bringing it up or asking her to do this, so good on her?

-21-year-old model Gabriella Brooks has reportedly met Liam Hemsworth’s parents already.

Cara Delevingne wished Ashley Benson a happy birthday with a gushy Instagram gallery, so I guess they didn’t break up.

-The trailer for John Mulaney’s Netflix special is here and I’m ready!

-Here’s the first teaser for A Quiet Place Part II.

Keanu Reeves Defies Age

-Here is the first look at Bill & Ted 3 (aka proof that Keanu Reeves is de-aging before our eyes).

-Look, if you had told me yesterday that the initial critical reaction to Cats would be slightly better than the initial reaction to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, I would not have believed you. And yet, here we are.

-Are people actually making fun of Adam Driver for stepping outside when a clip of his performance from A Marriage Story was played during an interview? Why? He sounds like he handled his (long documented) anxiety about this stuff politely and with grace.

Charlize Theron says her 7-year-old daughter’s feelings were hurt when she used the wrong pronouns to talk about her in past interviews, and she’s striving to be better.

-Variety published its annual list of TV stars’ salaries and as per usual, I’m fascinated.

-Speaking of TV, I dig the “retro” promos ABC just released for a bunch of their shows.

Madonna was spotted getting cozy with backup dancer Ahlamalik Williams. Merry Christmas to her!

Justin Timberlake is still in the doghouse, huh?

Prince William and Kate did some holiday baking and it was very cute.

Jennifer Ehle is far, far away from Pride and Prejudice in the Saint Maud trailer.

Kumail Nanjiani Is Suddenly Jacked

Kumail Nanjiani has been training for Marvel’s Eternals and showed off the results today on social media and…I did NOT see this coming.

-Cardi B said she didn’t know what to get Offset for his birthday — so she gave him a half a million dollars.

-The Hallmark Channel is finally reversing course after it caused a huge uproar because it had pulled an ad featuring a same-sex couple kissing at the altar. You’ve got one more week to feed us cheezy holiday movies, Hallmark. Why make such a massive misstep now (especially in a time when Lifetime and Netflix are mowing your grass)?

-Meanwhile, One Tree Hill star Hilarie Burton claims she was let go from a Hallmark movie because she asked if it could have “a LGBTQ character, an interracial couple and diverse casting.” I like that in her Twitter thread, she acknowledges she has “luxury to choose morals over paying bills” thanks to her husband, Walking Dead actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who “works his ass off. Not everyone has that! Nor should we be forced to be dependent. If I had to cover our mortgage and was told ‘take it or leave it,’ I’d be f—d.”

-I still haven’t watched the finale of The Watchmen, but Damon Lindelof has been giving exit interviews making it clear he has no plans for a second season (“I am deeply, profoundly appreciative for how well received the season has been up until now, and I don’t want to feel like I’m ungrateful, but I still don’t have any inclination whatsoever to continue the story. And that is largely and almost exclusively based on the fact that I don’t have an idea”).

-I also very much appreciate his comments on collaboration and diversity in the writing room: “It was a story about black trauma and a pain that I don’t know and never will know on any emotional basis. I do understand it in the way I understand what pain feels like, but I can’t ever understand that pain. Fortunately, there were many people in the creative process, starting in the writers room and then onto the set, with the actors and the people behind the camera, that did understand that pain…I think because I knew the entire time that it wasn’t my story, I used my influence at the head of my table to help others tell it.”

-The finale was a hit ratings-wise.

Orlando Jones was fired from American Gods and says it’s because the new (white) showrunner thought his character “sent the wrong message” to Black America.

-The new trailer for Top Gun has me feeling the need…the need for speed!
