Taylor Swift, Idris Elba, Jennifer Hudson and More Star in the Cats Trailer

-The trailer for Cats just dropped and what. the. fork. Seriously, all that talk about “digital fur technology” and this is what they came up with?! For all those people complaining about the uncanny valley of the new Lion King movie, just wait until the get an eyeful of cat boob. I’m gonna have nightmares about this for weeks…

-Speaking of The Lion King, the new video for “Spirit” shows Beyonce with her dancers interspersed with clips from film — and includes an adorable appearance by Blue Ivy.

-I’m bummed that Bradley Whitford and Jane Kaczmarek are no longer married — but I do approve of his new marriage to Transparent costar Amy Landecker. Their wedding photo is *chef’s kiss*

-According to a new story in People, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s split from Kate and William will “allow them more time to be like family.” So they won’t see each other except at awkward holiday dinners?

Trevor Noah used his latest “Between the Segments” clip to address the Scarlett Johansson casting controversy, and it’s a very articulate, measured take.

-I liked this article on Emmy campaigning by smaller shows like Schitt’s Creek and Killing Eve, who relied on buzz and fan engagement instead of trying to spend money on billboards and trade publication ads.

Will Smith trying to direct Jaden in a commercial is a good time.

-Netflix is losing U.S. subscribers for the first time in 8 years. Their shares nosedived 10% today after their Q2 reporting revealed a massive miss on new subscriber targets.

-Variety’s new cover story on Orange Is the New Black is a little too fawning, but I do like the acknowledgement that this show taught us how to watch TV on streaming.

Bella Thorne and ex-girlfriend Tana Mongeau got into a Twitter fight last night. All the teens in your life care about this a lot. Trust.

-Booksmart’s Kaitlyn Dever plays a rape victim in the trailer for the new Netflix limited series Unbelievable, which costars Toni Collette and Merritt Wever as detectives working on a similar case.

Ted Danson has already lined up his post-The Good Place gig: he’ll star in an NBC sitcom from Tina Fey.

-Hulu released the trailer for Untouchable, the Ursula Macfarlane-directed documentary about the fall of Harvey Weinstein.

-Love this article on how Legends of Tomorrow is living its best life as TV’s superhero underdog.

-At a Comic Con preview last night, DC showed the Batwoman pilot and early word of mouth is positive, with critics noting that it leans into the lead character’s queerness.

-It’s only day one of Comic Con and already we’ve gotten tons of news, such as the fact that Edward Furlong will play John Connor again for the first time in decades in the new Terminator movie.

-We also got a star-studded trailer for the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, which features Chris Hemsworth, Melissa Benoist, Matt Damon, Rosario Dawson, Ben Affleck, Nicolas Cage, Justin Long, Grant Gustin, Craig Robinson and more.

Tom Cruise made a surprise Comic Con appearance today to debut the Top Gun: Maverick trailer, 34 years after the original. “All of the flying you see in this picture, everything is real,” he told the crowd. This looks gorgeous. (And the short glimpse of a shirtless Glen Powell has already set Twitter on fire).
