Beyonce and Jay Z Show Their Support for Meghan Markle

–BeyoncĂ© and Jay-Z accepting their Brit award in front of a Meghan Markle painting is perfection. This is such a powerful but subtle way to show their support in the wake of the British press’ brutal (and often racist) coverage of her.

–Serena Williams and Amal Clooney co-hosted Meghan Markle’s baby shower in NYC. This is such a power move and I adore it! She may not have royal allies but Hollywood A-list allies are showing up for her in force.

-Oh ffs. In a new podcast, Jason Reitman said “I’m not making the Juno of Ghostbusters movies…We are, in every way, trying to go back to the original technique and hand the movie back to the fans.”  What misogynist nonsense is this? How did the female reboot somehow take anything away from fans? This is playing right into the narrative of trolls who think women can’t be part of fandoms, and it’s disgusting.

-Those toxic fanboys who were littering Rotten Tomatoes with fake reviews of Captain Marvel can choke on their tears. The first screening was held for critics last night, and the initial reactions are GLOWING.

-Fox insists it has no plans to write Jussie Smollett out of Empire.

-That might change: Smollett has just officially been named a suspect in the criminal investigation into his alleged attack.

–Idris Elba is going to host SNL next month and I’m HERE for it. My sister-in-law recently alerted me to his new Squarespace commercial and he plays such a good straightman opposite the hilarious Lolly Adefope. (“I was voted the Sexiest Man on Earth.” “Yeah, you’ve said that a number of times. You said it to the caterers.”)

–Nina Dobrev hit back at Instagram commenters who remarked on her thin-looking frame in this photo.

–Lily Colins and Noah Centineo are flirting on IG for all to see.

-I very much like this piece on Mandy Moore and how she’s become a symbol of why some women in the music industry aren’t taken seriously — and how that might change.

-I love Lizzo so much and this tweet about Shawn Mendes confirms it.

–Channing Tatum and Jessie J are still dating. Huh.

-I don’t know why I read the Academy voter secret ballot interviews because they always make me so angry! Today’s is the worst. On best short doc nominee Period. End of Sentence, he said: “It’s well done, but it’s about women getting their period, and I don’t think any man is voting for this film because it’s just icky for men.” F**kkkkkkk youuuuuuu.

-The Oscars are only four(!) days away, and it sounds like a mess. They’re still figuring out how to keep it under three hours, and they’re shooting down rumours that Whoopi is secretly preparing to host. After Dwayne Johnson rejected the host offer, they even considered a different host for each hour of the telecast but now it seems like they’ve ended up with … no one?

-People can’t even figure out the frontrunners for the Best Picture race . I’m still assuming it’ll go to Roma, but for the first time ever, all the guilds (which are good predictors) chose a different winner.

-Speaking of the guilds, here’s Chelsea Peretti’s hilarious monologue at the Writers Guild Awards. “The writers of The Good Place took an unbelievable premise like Kristen Bell being friends with a black person and they turned it into an amazing show.”

-I definitely agree with this take on how The Good Place needs to set an end date.

-I don’t want this for Chris Hemsworth.

-I’m very glad that someone is asking the hard questions about Lucas Hedges‘ GQ cover interview. What kind of high school assigned students to see him in a middle-school play?!

–Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson play police officers who come out of retirement to catch Bonnie & Clyde in The Highwaymen trailer.

Gwyneth Paltrow Talks Leaving Marvel, Fighting with Harvey Weinstein

-In her new Variety cover, Gwyneth Paltrow talks about how her new husband Brad Falchuk referenced Shakespeare in Love in his vows (“I hope this isn’t too personal but in my husband’s wedding vows, he actually said it’s no coincidence that I played this muse, because that’s who I am to him, and his perception is that’s who I am in real life. It was really sweet”), added more fuel to the rumours that her onscreen hubby Robert Downey Jr. dies in this spring’s Avengers: Endgame by saying it’ll be her last MCU movie, and says of her struggles with Harvey Weinstein, “He was a bully. I never had a problem standing up to him. I wasn’t scared of him.” Which, good for her I guess, but a lot of women who weren’t at her level didn’t have the luxury to stand up to him and not be destroyed.

–Lady Gaga and fiance Christian Carino have called it quits.

-It’s a big day for breakups. Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson are also done following a new round of cheating rumours.

–Kim Kardashian is lashing out at sites that sell fashion knockoffs after a vintage Thierry Mugler gown she wore to Sunday’s Hollywood Beauty Awards has already been copied.

-Celebs are mourning  Karl Lagerfeld (even though he was kind of a turd).

–This interview with Macaulay Culkin and Devon Sawa reminiscing about their days as 90s stars made my day.

–Darren Criss and Mia Swier got married over the weekend and good for them but my god what is this dress?!?

-There are rumours that Armie Hammer might be the next Batman (which is the most boring choice imaginable) but he’s denying them. Or possibly negotiating through the press? It could go either way.

-Netflix officially got out of the Marvel business by cancelling The Punisher and Jessica Jones yesterday. The stars of those shows took to social media to thank their fans.

–Aaron Sorkin is in “conversations” to bring back The Newsroom which is just … ugh. This thread about possible plots is more entertaining than that show ever was.

–Meghan Markle is in NYC to celebrate her baby shower with her girlfriends.

-Arrested Development returns to Netflix on March 15. I just can’t bring myself to care about a Jeffrey Tambor show anymore.

–Emma Thompson, who had begun recording one of the voice roles in Skydance’s upcoming animated feature Luck, has quietly left the project because of concerns about working with John Lasseter, sources say.  That’s putting your money where your mouth is and I love her even more now.

–Jussie Smollett’s hours on Empire have been cut back while everyone tries to figure out wtf is going on. Meanwhile, police are investigating whether he was seen with his alleged attackers hours before the assault.

–Cardi B is not happy about this whole situation.

–Troye Sivan, Wanda Sykes, Cara Delevingne, Rachel Maddow, and Gina Rodriguez show up in the trailer for season 11 of RuPaul’s Drag Race.

-I’m so glad to see that the reviews for Pamela Adlon‘s new, Louis CK-less season of Better Things indicate the show is stronger than ever.

–Orlando Bloom proposed to Katy Perry on Valentine’s Day, which is a very Orlando Bloom-y thing to do.

-This is a really good interview with Meg Ryan, in which she talks about burning out and the pressures of being America’s sweetheart. I love her metaphor for fame: “Ever get in a car — maybe it’s a superexpensive car — and the inside’s lovely, you can’t complain about it, but you can’t hear anything outside, because there’s so much metal? There’s so much between you and everything else. You’re at a disadvantage as a young, famous person because you don’t know who’s telling you the truth.”

-There was a very, very disturbing tweet from a Chicago news reporter last night that suggested Jussie Smollett may have staged his racist attack because he was worried he was be written out Empire. Fox Entertainment immediately denied that possibility and stood by the actor, and Empire producer Danny Strong tweeted that there was “0% truth he was being written off,” and police say there is no evidence that it was staged. Meanwhile, two suspects have been arrested.

-Whenever I see video from Kim Kardashian and Kanye West‘s house, I get so confused. How is she calling this their living room? Where is their furniture? It’s just a big, cavernous white space. Do they have a whole wing that they devote just to IG videos?

–Terry Crews talked about what it’s like to be the leading male voice in the #MeToo movement: “It feels scary, there’s no other way to really describe. I’ve had a lot of men who are very, very angry. They’re angry at me because I’ve changed the narrative. The only way I can describe it is that there’s a movie that everybody’s playing in their head and the movie doesn’t end up the way they want it.”

-I’m in love with every single thing we’re hearing about Amazon’s Good Omens series, which will premiere on May 31.

-Showtime’s new comedy series Desus & Mero is getting crazy buzz that’s to glowing early reviews, a stellar writing team, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as their first guest.

-Here’s the first trailer for Killing Eve season 2, which seems to pick up exactly where we left off.

-After heavy-hitting celebs like Brad Pitt, Alfonso Cuaron and George Clooney blasted the Oscars for planning to hand out Best Editing and Best Cinematography during commercial breaks, the Academy is now saying we all misunderstood. Uh huh.

-This photo that JJ Abrams tweeted out to celebrate the last day of shooting on Star Wars Episode IX is all kinds of perfect.

-Finding out that Tom Cruise’s character is Collateral was named Vincent Collateral has greatly enriched my life.

-R. Kelly might soon be indicted in Illinois, based on a new 45-min video that allegedly shows the singer sexually assaulting an underage girl.

-I’ve always wanted good things for Mandy Moore, but now I really, really want them following that New York Time’s article on Ryan Adams.

-Hurrah! Jared Leto‘s Joker spinoff has reportedly been shelved.

–Mark Ruffalo still gives good Twitter.

-Sending out good vibes to Justin Bieber, who is reportedly seeking professional help for depression.

-Early tracking for Captain Marvel place it at a $100M opening and I want it to crush that!

-I wasn’t going to watch Netflix’s Umbrella Academy but this dance scene clip might have just changed my mind.

-It’s not surprising that Netflix has ordered a sequel to The Kissing Booth, but can they make the next one less problematic?

-Apple is set to show the first clips of their originals shows at an event in March — and hopefully announce where/how we can watch them.

–Nicholas Hoult plays a hot young J.R.R. Tolkien in the first Tolkien trailer.

-In the trailer for Long Shot, Charlize Theron plays a presidential candidate and Seth Rogen plays the schlubby journalist who catches her eye, and damned if I’m not totally charmed by this whole thing!
