Bradley Cooper Joined Lady Gaga Onstage for Surprise Duet

–Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper were shut out of the SAGs, but they made up for it when he joined her on stage in Vegas for a surprise duet of “Shallow.”

-The SAG Awards were a pretty low-key affair last night, but at least the red carpet was pretty.

-In case you missed last night’s telecast, the best speeches are here: from Chadwick Boseman and Sandra Oh.

-This is Us won best TV ensemble, but really I’d rather watch Sterling K Brown and his wife’s victory clap than another episode of that show.

-Though Black Panther won the top prize at the SAGs, it doesn’t change much for the Oscars because it doesn’t tend to be a great predictor.  The SAG winner has gone on to win the best picture Oscar in only 11 of 23 years. It’s still probably Roma vs Green Book.

-Wait, now the Oscars might drop Best Cinematography from the telecast? Come on!

–Liam Hemsworth talked about his “spur-of-the-moment” wedding to Miley Cyrus.

-Yay for Mindy Kaling! Her new movie Late Night broke Sundance records when it was bought for $13M by Amazon Studios. I love how she talked about it: “I wrote it for Emma Thompson. A person I did not know! So I was just this creep in my home writing fan fiction movie for me and Emma Thompson, a woman I don’t know, hoping she would one day read it.”

-The four-hour Michael Jackson documentary premiered to a standing ovation at Sundance, and his estate is already fighting back.

–Freida Pinto says L’Oreal lightened her skin in an ad campaign. “I said to my agent after the first controversy that I would like to see the pictures before, and I would like to be able to question them on colour correction.”

-Last night’s Rent Live wasn’t actually live because the guy who played Roger broke his foot at the second dress rehearsal and apparently they’ve never heard of understudies or wheelchair. It ended up getting the lowest ratings ever for a live musical so far.

-Who needs to wait for the Super Bowl to see the ads? Here is Cardi B’s Pepsi ad, while Carrie Bradshaw and The Dude return in a Stella Artois ad. (Because of course Carrie would drink beer?!?)

–Diane Kruger says Norman Reedus has been teaching her a lot about how to stay calm as a parent.

-Freeform is teaming with Laurence Fishburne to tell the story of Black Panther Party leader Elaine Brown and her daughter, Ericka Suzanne. The Gilmore Girls-meet-The Black Panthers pitch has me intrigued.

-I’m glad Netflix picked up Brie Larson‘s directorial debut, Unicorn Store. It got mixed reviews at TIFF but people seemed harsher to it than they needed to be.

–Naomi Campbell‘s cover of British Vogue is everything!

–Greg Berlanti, with a record 15 scripted series currently on the air, just landed his third pilot order of the season and his first at Fox. I mean, I love a lot of his shows but my god give someone else a shot, Hollywood!

-I’m not sure how I feel about Barry getting a season 2 (mostly because I adored how the first season ended), but this trailer is good.

-The only thing I know about Birds of Prey is from the CW which is … uh… not good. So I appreciated this explainer, because this teaser has me very excited. Chris Messina’s hair alone bought my ticket.

 

The Leading Ladies Speak Up

-The Hollywood Reporter’s actress roundtable features Glenn Close, Lady Gaga, Kathryn Hahn, Nicole Kidman, Regina King and Rachel Weisz. They talk about the times they wished they had spoken up more on set, and why it’s important to speak openly about pay and treatment. Said Kidman: “Working with younger actresses, I say, ‘Ask me anything and I’ll answer. Ask me anything financially. If you need advice, just ask. I can only tell you what I advise and you might take it or leave it. But it’s nice to have access to information.'”

-Similarly in an interview from Sundance, Michelle Williams remembers how an older actress flagged inappropriate actions on set she was younger, and now she wants to do the same. “It’s up to me to protect these women, girls who are younger than I am. And teach them how to protect themselves.”

–Patton Oswalt responded to an online attacker by donating money to the troll’s GoFundMe page and it all ended very sweetly.

-Even the props that you can barely see on The Good Place are next level.

-Wait, Jon Bernthal is in one of the episodes of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt that dropped on Netflix today? CLEAR MY CALENDAR!!

–Anne Hathaway confirmed that, almost 20 years after the original, that there is talk of a third installment of The Princess Diaries and she and Julie Andrews are in if the script is “perfect.”

–Matthew McConaughey ranked his best and worst rom coms and he chose How To Lose a Guy as his fave because he still gets residuals from it: “there’s always a great little check that shows up in the mail.”

-As if I wasn’t already excited for the next season of Fleabag, Kristin Scott Thomas and Fiona Shaw will appear.

-Alright, I’ll admit the new images from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood have me a teensy bit curious.

–Cardi B remains the best.

-The Magic Mike musical is set to premiere in Boston, with Channing Tatum and Steven Soderbergh on board to produce. Excuse me while I frantically look up plane tickets…

–Zac Efron plays serial killer Ted Bundy in the trailer for Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, which is premiering at Sundance.

Vanity Fair’s Hollywood Issue Wows Us

-There’s so much I love about Vanity Fair’s annual Hollywood cover. The majority of actors featured are POC! It was shot by someone other than Annie Leibovitz! The ladies are fully clothed! Regina King looks amazing! It features Elizabeth Debicki — who should be getting wayyyy more buzz for her stunning turn in Widows! I probably would have switched out Nicholas Hoult for Brian Tyree Henry, who might have had the best year of anyone in Hollywood, but this is still pretty great.

-Millennium Films put out a statement confirming that Bryan Singer is going to keep his $10M Red Sonya directing gig even after yesterday’s exposé. The film will adapt a comic book character who becomes a great swordsperson after a group of mercenaries kill her family and their leader rapes her. And Singer’s the guy who gets to tell that story. So that’s just effing great.

–David Tennant is launching his own podcast next week and his first guest will be his former Broadchurch costar and current Oscar nom Olivia Colman. Get in my ear holes!!

–Jeff Bridges is teasing that his Big Lebowski character will return on Feb 3 — in a Super Bowl commercial.

-I can’t stop staring at this image that Julianne Moore posted on Instagram. Stun-ning!

-This interview with Catharine O’Hara is a total delight.

–George Clooney responded to The Guardian’s op-ed that questioned his loyalty in helping Sudan with his own article.

–Priyanka Chopra is back from her honeymoon and proving that being married hasn’t stopped her from pulling off bad jeans.

-Is it weird to get turned on by a promo image for a play?

-Only “Shallow” from A Star Is Born and “All the Stars” from Black Panther will be performed at the Oscars. The nominated songs from Mary Poppins, RBG or Buster Scruggs won’t make the cut.

-I’m pretty pumped for USA’s new Briarpatch show starring Rosario Dawson, which was written by one of my fave podcasters.

-The CW is sticking with what it knows. They just ordered spinoffs of Jane the Virgin and Riverdale.

-Everyone’s talking about the batshit ending of Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway‘s new movie Serenity so I went ahead and spoiled myself. Worth it.

-Go, Anna Wintour!

-I’m pretty much all the way out on the Handmaid’s Tale at this point, but Christopher Meloni and Elizabeth Reaser are both good gets.

-The trailer for The Umbrella Academy, Netflix’s new show starring Ellen Page, looks like an American version of Misfits and I’m kind of here of it. They even cast Nathan!
