Kristen Stewart Gets Moody For Interpol

Kristen Stewart pushes her way into the VIP section and force-feeds some dude spaghetti, makes out with a lot of boys, and steals a car in Interpol’s new video.

Ben Affleck has headed back to rehab following an intervention by Jennifer Garner, according to TMZ.

Justin Bieber reportedly bought a 100+ acre property in Cambridge, ON that has its own horse-racing track. Stars, they’re just like us!

-Meanwhile, Hailey Baldwin is flashing her engagement ring from Bieber on the cover of Vogue Mexico.

-Now Meghan Markle‘s brother has joined her trash heap pile of a family.

-Brangelina‘s custody hearing has been postponed.

-This is a great article on the “radical softness” that TATBILB roused in people. We’re obviously desperate for happy stories.

-Meanwhile, the guy who plays Josh has apologized for those inappropriate tweets and said he’s now “dedicated to becoming a more informed and educated version of myself.”

-Interesting that Jean-Marc Vallee was reportedly approached for the new Bond. After Big Little Lies and now Sharp Objects, I gotta say that I’m finding his quick cut flashback style to be…a lot.

Eddie Murphy is reportedly getting ready to welcome his 10th(!) child.

Ashley Judd and Alyssa Milano say all the right things about #MeToo following Asia Argento‘s sexual assault allegations, but I think the movement’s founder, Tarana Burke, sums it up best: “It will continue to be jarring when we hear the names of some of our faves connected to sexual violence unless we shift from talking about individuals and begin to talk about power.”

-This is an interesting look at the new politics of shooting sex scenes in Hollywood, from fluorescent-colored pasties to the destruction of unused footage.

Drake will be dropping by TIFF to co-host a screening of Monsters and Men.

Jason Reitman is coming back to Toronto to present one of his star-studded live readings. Up this year: The Breakfast Club. (I saw his live reading of The Princess Bride a few years ago with Rachel McAdams, Patrick Stewart, Cary Elwes, Chris O’Dowd and Donald Glover and it was one of my fave TIFF experiences.)

Jon Hamm and Ed Harris have joined Top Gun: Maverick. Between them and Glen Powell, there are going to be a lot of strong jawlines in this thing.

-Catastrophe’s Sharon Horgan is developing an Amazon self-help comedy co-starring Billy Magnussen in which a “broken” woman starts a self-help company and hires a former gymnast to be the face of it. Get in my eyeballs!!

-I walked past Hayden Christensen on the street the other day and thought “wow, he’s aged well!” If I’d only ordered a pizza!

-Peppermint comes out right smack in the middle of TIFF which means I can’t see it opening weekend but man, every clip that comes out of it makes me want to devour it.

Ben Mendelsohn quits his job and leaves his family in the Netflix movie The Land of Steady Habits, which is premiering at TIFF.

-The new Suspiria trailer features Tilda Swinton rocking a snuggie and Thom Yorke’s creepy score.

Chris Hemsworth Goes Undercover on the Internet

-Man, this video that Chris Hemsworth shot for his GQ cover story is charming as hell.

-Here’s a deeper look at Rihanna and Donald Glover‘s new longform video shoot. I want it yesterday!

-Whenever there’s a new E Alex Jung profile of Sandra Oh, it’s an immediate “drop everything and read” moment. I like that they talk about Double Happiness (which was a big deal here in Canada). She also talks about her one and only major US magazine cover for Marie Claire: “I was so profoundly disappointed with the cover they chose. Because I didn’t feel like it was representing me, and it wasn’t a good shot.”

-This is a really good timeline about what the hell is going on with Elon Musk, Azealia Banks and Grimes — but I’m still confused.

Drake praised Toronto during his show here last night: “I’m forever grateful, everywhere I go, I carry the value of this city with me. Every night that I go and I do a show in America, I tell them, ‘This is how the world is supposed to work.’ You see, tonight, we got 17,000 people inside one building from all races, from all places, and all we are doing is just listening to music, and smoking and drinking — and enjoying our lives. That’s how we been doing our shit since day one.”

-A new Kevin Spacey sexual assault case is being reviewed by the L.A. District Attorney’s Office.

-Oh no: Michaela Coel says she was sexually assaulted when she was working on Chewing Gum. She says she was writing an episode so she was staying at the office overnight and stepped out for a quick drink when she was drugged and assaulted by strangers. The show’s producers sent her to a private clinic and funded her therapy until the end of the shoot, but her relationship with them changed. “When there are police involved, and footage, of people carrying your sleeping writer into dangerous places, when cuts are found, when there’s blood … what is your job?”

-I never thought we’d see this day: The Big Bang Theory is ending after this season.

-In news that should surprise no one, the sequel to Crazy Rich Asians has been green-lit.

-This is great: Crazy Rich Asians’ Jon Chu and Henry Golding are buying out a theatre for John Cho‘s Searching movie.

-The resurgence of rom coms means the resurgence of great writing about rom coms. Here’s a look at all the books that have been optioned in the last few months (The Hating Game is my go-to comfort book, and I just finished The Kiss Quotient, which was delightful), and here’s a look at the movies that have used the fake boyfriend trope best.

-Also, I really, really liked this piece on why TATBILB’s Peter Kavinsky is such a good romantic lead. He doesn’t have an arc about learning how to respect her boundaries or share his feelings; he’s already built that way. “Every upcoming romantic comedy should take a look at the fan reaction to Peter and Lara Jean’s relationship and think — really think — about what makes them so appealing in this year 2018.”

-Unfortunately, it looks like the guy who plays Josh in TATBILB has made some problematic tweets.

-The Destination Wedding press junket is already amazing. Gah, Keanu and Winona are going to kill us before this thing even premieres.

-Not only will the CW’s crossover event feature Batwoman this year, but Superman and Lois Lane will also join in on the fun.

-I’m way more interested in Amazon’s Jack Ryan series now that I know it features a supporting turn from Wendell Pierce as Ryan’s mentor.

-The End Of The Fxxxing World has been renewed for Season 2 at Netflix. I’m very conflicted about this. I adored its 8-episode run earlier this year on Netflix and it will most certainly end up on my Best TV of 2018 list at the end of the year. But on the flip side, it was such a good example of a show that should be one and done. That perfect, ambiguous ending basically meant you could interpret it any way you’d like.

-I was hoping the R-rated puppet comedy The Happytime Murders might be a fun summertime distraction, but wow are the reviews brutal. Both IndieWire and Screencrush say it’s “the worst movie of the summer,” Variety says it’s “a waste of time and felt,” the Guardian calls it “a staggeringly bad attempt to add X-rated humour to Sesame Street,”  i09 calls it “a massive disappointment,” and Vanity Fair says it may be “the worst movie of the year.”

Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish cram four years of high school in the new Night School trailer.

Lee Pace, Jason Sudeikis, Judy Greer, and Corey Stoll star in Driven, which is debuting at TIFF.

Veronica Mars is Coming Back!

veronica-mars-logan

-Huzzah! An 8-episode Veronica Mars revival is in the works at Hulu!

-This Tessa Thompson profile is great. (Remember when she was on Veronica Mars and she wasn’t so great? Weird times…)

-To be a fly on this wall: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reportedly hung out with George and Amal Clooney in Lake Como.

Chris Pine, what are you wearing and how do you possible make that work like you do?!?

-Page Six is firmly in Brad Pitt‘s camp. After today’s hearing, I’m wondering if his visitation will still be supervised only? Why is no one really talking about that?

-I only watched The Fosters for one season, but To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before star Noah Centineo is returning for the spin-off and I’m in because PETER KAVINSKY!

-Speaking of Peter Kavinsky, Netflix changed their Twitter bio to reflect our collective obsession. Meanwhile, I liked this piece on the enduring rom com trope of fake boyfriendship.

Don Cheadle still can’t believe Mark Ruffalo spoiled Avengers: Infinity War in 2017.

Jennifer Garner got a star on the Walk of Fame, and her former costars Steve Carell, Judy Greer, and Bryan Cranston were on hand. (I saw Garner and Cranston’s movie Wakefield a couple of years ago at TIFF but I don’t think it ever was released. From what I can recall, that was for the best.)

-Netflix renewed Glow for a third season (it feels like the second season just ended but this is still good news. Now if they’d only drop the ill-advised relationship bit they’ve been hinting at…)

-NBC has renewed its summer Amy Poehler/Nick Offerman series Making It for Season 2. I’ve only watched one episode so far but it’s like a small screen endorphin release.

Drake cancelled his first of three shows in TO to visit a little girl in the hospital in Chicago. That video tho. Gah, the ovaries just took a direct hit!

-HBO just ordered a new comedy from The Leftovers’ Tom Perrotta starring Kathryn Hahn and Casey Wilson, directed by Nicole Holofcener. Yes, please!

-In a NYT op-ed, Star Wars’ Kelly Marie Tran opened up about the ‘self-hate’ she dealt with after her online harassment.

-The VMAs red carpet made me feel rul rul old. Also, did Pete Davidson’s VMAs bracelet imply he already married Ariana Grande?

-Madonna’s Aretha Franklin tribute at the VMAs is all about Madonna — and people were not happy. She later explained her speech on Instagram: “And just to clarify: I was asked to present video of the year by MTV! And then they asked me to share any anecdotes I had in my career connected to Aretha Franklin! I shared a part of my journey and thanked Aretha for inspiring me along the way. I did not intend to do a tribute to her! That would be impossible in 2 minutes with all the noise and tinsel of an award show. I could never do her justice in this context or environment.”

-MTV has green lighted a new season of The Hills — but none of the originals you liked will appear.

-The first season of American Vandal was about who drew the dicks? The new season’s central mystery will be about uncovering the identity of the Turd Burglar. (I love this exchange in the trailer: “What if the motive is just that poop is funny?” “Poop IS funny.”)

-Danny Boyle — the only reason to get excited about the new James Bond film — has dropped out of directing.

-Critical reception to HBO’s Sharper Objects has been mixed, but last week’s episode really turned me off. Not every female journalist in pop culture needs to sleep with their source. It’s such a lazy, dump trope.

-Harvey Weinstein is now being sued by a woman alleging he raped her at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival. The suit claims he “bragged that he had recently received a negative result from an HIV test. Then, over her continued protests, he removed the condom he had been wearing and continued to rape her.”

Asia Argento denied a report that she sexually assaulted a 17-year-old and says the settlement was Anthony Bourdain‘s idea to make the allegations go away. Man, I really wish she’d left Bourdain out of all this.

-In Hold the Dark, (which debuts at TIFF before screening on Netflix) Jeffrey Wright plays a wolf expert who tracks down the wolves who killed a young boy. Riley Keough and Alexander Skarsgard play the boy’s parents.
