Mindy Kaling Covers Shape

Mindy Kaling baby weight Shape Magazine

-I love that Mindy Kaling is Shape’s latest cover model — which isn’t a typical choice for them. I skimmed over the stuff about losing the baby weight, but she has some cute nuggets about motherhood: “What’s great for me is that my doctor told me that incessant chatter is good for a baby, and I’ve lived my whole life waiting to have a captive audience. So, I spend the days narrating to her. I’m constantly doing voice-over for her, as I did in The Mindy Project. Honestly, I feel like her first words are going to be, ‘Just stop. Please!'”

Dylan Sprouse is out here coming for Jared Leto, proving once again that he’s the superior Sprouse brother. And Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn took it further, tweeting “he starts at 18 on the internet?” Oh SHIT!

-Lethal Weapon producers reportedly approached  Karl Urban and Johnny Knoxville (both passed) before turning to Seann William Scott, who was originally offered and passed on the role two years ago.

Thandie Newton won the Cannes Solo premiere red carpet in this custom Vivienne Westwood dress that featured  black characters in the Star Wars universe — modeled from photos from her personal collection of action figures.

-Fashion drama is the best drama. Amal Clooney reportedly made Tom Ford mad by not wearing his dress at the MET gala arrivals — but opting to wear it later that night, which means that another A-lister won’t get to debut it at a future red carpet event.

-Those rumours about Donald Glover getting his own Lando movie are not true…yet.

-This Instagram story of Fergie having to take the subway because of a rainstorm is hilarious because it’s presented like she’s the first person who’s ever braved public transit.

-I gotta say, I did not expect so many Mulroney kids to be in the royal wedding party.

Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool took over Stephen Colbert’s monologue last night.

-This “bad fan” thread between TV critics on The Americans really captured what I am feeling. I know it’s bad to *want* them to end the show with Elizabeth and Phillip getting away with it, but that’s where I am.

CBS responded to Pauley Perrette’s tweets claiming she was physically assaulted while on NCIS: “Over a year ago, Pauley came to us with a workplace concern. We took the matter seriously and worked with her to find a resolution. We are committed to a safe work environment on all our shows.”

Bryan Fuller slammed the Bohemian Rhapsody trailer for ignoring Freddie Mercury‘s sexuality and AIDS battle. He’s not wrong.

This non-review of Lars Von Trier‘s new film by a critic who walked out of it at Cannes confirmed that I will never, ever see it.

Christina Aguilera and Demi Lovato released a new collab any instead of it being a bop it’s … this.

-The second season of 13 Reasons Why is NOT getting good reviews. I’m ok with that. I just don’t think I can spend any more time in that world.

Stephen Amell took his daughter to Frozen on Broadway, and since his former Arrow costar’s wife plays Anna, she got some extra facetime. The kid decided to use it in the cutest possible way.

-The latest trailer for Mission Impossible: Fallout shows off an insane skydiving stunt.

-This trailer for Destination Wedding, which basically consists of Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves snarking at each other in Paso Robles wine country, looks like the perfect movie and I will not be convinced otherwise!

Solo: A Star Wars Story Isn’t Wowing Critics

Solo A Star Wars Story reviews
-The first reviews for Solo are out, and though they are mixed (good, not great seems to be the theme), I’m glad that it sounds like Alden Ehrenreich delivers. I felt like he was being set up to be blamed if people didn’t like it with all the rumours about acting coaches, etc.

Meghan Markle‘s dad has reportedly changed his mind and now wants to walk his daughter down the aisle after all, but he may be having heart surgery. The wedding is this weekend! What is happening?!?

-I was waiting for this: Now that the dust has settled, Lethal Weapon’s Damon Wayans  went OFF on fired co-star Clayne Crawford last night on Twitter, alleging abusive behavior. Before shutting down his Twitter account, Wayans posted a video that shows him getting struck in the back of his head by shrapnel while filming a scene. (An earlier report suggested that Crawford had been officially reprimanded twice, and once was for an incident when he was directing and another actor on set felt unsafe after being hit by a piece of shrapnel from an effect.) Wayans added that Crawford “relished in making females cry,” “struck fear in cast and crew”, punched an actor in the mouth with a bottle of green tea, and had a file full of “infractions.”

-Lethal Weapon costar Michelle Mitchenor also tweeted: “Ok @ClayneCrawford you know I have nothing but respect & admiration for your talent. But are you really going to let us catch all this heat KNOWING how unkind you were to some of our crew members or directors? The outbursts, profanity, saying you hoped the show was cancelled etc? …I can’t stand for verbal or emotional abuse. We had our moment & I took you to the side and we had a GREAT convo! & you listened! However countless others didn’t and things continued on… regardless of how passionate one may be, speaking to people in the manner you did in those countless incidents honestly made my heart sink.”

-Cannes put Diane Kruger on bump watch.

-Walkouts at Cannes screenings are not uncommon, but Lars von Trier‘s The House That Jack Built starring Matt Dillon as a serial killer  prompted over 100 audience members to flee the theater. The first wave of mass walkouts reportedly happened when Dillon’s character shoots two children in the head with a rifle, and the second wave was near the end when Riley Keough‘s character is being mutilated.

Emilia Clarke at Cannes: “Find another adjective, damn it. Enough already with the strong women. Let’s just be women.”

Kristen Stewart doesn’t care about Cannes’ red carpet rules. After posing for a few pictures in her complete outfit at Monday’s premiere of Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman, she took off her heels and went barefoot on the red carpet.

Cardi B is apologizing for using the d-word in “Girls” her collab with Rita Ora, Charli XCX and Bebe Rexha. “I know i have use words before that i wasn’t aware that they are offensive to the LGBT community. I apologize for that. Not everybody knows the correct ‘terms’ to use. I learned and i stopped using it.”

-U2’s Bono and The Edge  become Ellen DeGeneres’ assistants for the day in today’s episode.

-This is a great interview with reporter Jim DeRogatis, who broke the R. Kelly story back in 2000, has been covering it ever since and is ready for others to care about it.

-This profile on Marti Noxon left me so conflicted. I really enjoyed the book Dietland and am looking forward to the adaptation. Her justification for season 6 of Buffy though and the re-positioning it as a precursor to shows like Jessica Jones and Fleabag…I just can’t. The wound is still too raw.

-Oh man, this piece on why David Letterman didn’t have female writers on his staff includes a perfect zinger from Merrill Markoe: “Because we were having sex, maybe he remembers me as an intern.”

Greg Berlanti just set a new record with 14 series on air, which is insane.

-Also insane: Netflix will premiere an estimated 470 new originals between now and the end of 2018.

-This is a great Chris Evans story.

New Girl ends tonight and even though I didn’t always watch in the later seasons, I’m going to miss it. Some of my favourite moments: Nick and Tran in the poolGave me cookie, got me cookie, the chicken danceJess’s rant on her brand of feminism, Nick’s attempt at burpees, and of course the hottest kiss ever.

-The guy who played Schmidt won’t be out of work for long. Max Greenfield is taking over as the lead in one of CBS’s new sitcoms.

-Oh yeah, I’m going to watch the crap out of this Netflix movie about Lucy Liu and Taye Diggs getting parent-trapped by their assistants.

-Watch Rami Malek channel his inner Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody: The Movie‘s first official teaser trailer.

Meghan Markle’s Dad No Longer Walking Her Down the Aisle

-After it came out that he reportedly staged photos with paps, Meghan Markle’s dad is no longer attending the royal wedding. Is it just me, or does her messed up family make her more relatable?

-Meanwhile, George and Amal Clooney reportedly nabbed an invite.

-Do I have to rethink my whole stance on Benedict Cumberbatch? In a new interview, he says actors should boycott projects that do not pay woman the same amount as their male co-stars. “Look at your quotas. Ask what women are being paid, and say: ‘If she’s not paid the same as the men, I’m not doing it.'”

This is a great take on Anna Wintour‘s recent editor’s letter in Vogue, in which she insist Georgina Chapman had no knowledge of husband Harvey Weinstein‘s behaviour.

-The actors who are in Hawaii filming the Netflix movie Triple Frontier continue to bless us with wonderful photos. This time, Charlie Hunnam and Garrett Hedlund are running shirtless on a beach.

-I really like Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons’ baby name. Huh.

-Led by Cate Blanchett, 82 women climbed the steps of the Palais des Festivals at Cannes to call for gender equality in the film industry.

Cardi B deleted her Instagram account following a spat with Azealia Banks.

Chris Hemsworth‘s daughter came up to him and said she wanted a penis like her brothers and he had the best possible response.

Harrison Ford surprised Alden Ehrenreich during his interview with ET in the most Harrison Ford-ish way. “Get out of my chair.”

-As New Girl winds down this week, Zooey Deschanel reveals that T.J. Miller almost played Schmidt. Thank god that didn’t happen.

Busy Phillips supporting her Dawson’s Creek pal Joshua Jackson on Broadway makes me smile.

Pink let a fan sing at her Vancouver concert and it was great.

-This Is Us star Justin Hartley says a female fan sexually harassed him — and then got angry when he didn’t want to pose for a selfie.

-Not gonna lie: Mandy Moore crying about filming *that* scene in last season’s This Is Us kinda got to me.

-For Mother’s Day, Gwyneth Paltrow shared a nude photo of herself just before she gave birth to Apple in 2004.

-On the latest episode of Jada Pinkett-Smith‘s Facebook show, her daughter Willow shocked her by revealing that she started cutting to deal with the post-“Whip My Hair” fame.

-Even though he once wrote an editorial pushing for his blacklisting, powerhouse agent Ari Emanuel is now reportedly helping Mel Gibson’s return to Hollywood — in order to please Mark Wahlberg.

-Another Transparent crew member alleges that Jeffrey Tambor kissed her without her consent. Meanwhile, Amazon has pulled him from the Emmy race.

-Oh no. Ex-NCIS actress Pauley Perrette says he endured “multiple physical assaults” on the set.

-I had no idea when I was watching last week’s Atlanta that it was already the season finale. What a nearly perfect second season. I still don’t know what to think about that ending, tho.

Ryan Reynolds sang ‘Tomorrow’ from Annie dressed as unicorn on a Korean TV show. This promo tour is wild, y’all.

-Most of the TV cancellations and renewals have been announced (though NBC still hasn’t pulled the trigger on Timeless, despite Kelly Clarkson and Leslie Jones caping for it). Agents of Shield was renewed, Gotham is coming back for a final 13 episodes (which will take them to the 100-episode mark needed for syndication), Lethal Weapon will return with Seann William Scott replacing Clayne Crawford, and CBS dropped Kevin Can Wait and Scorpion. Perhaps most surprising were the seemingly slam-dunk pilots that weren’t picked up, including Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba‘s Bad Boys spinoff,  Hannah Simone‘s Greatest American Hero reboot, and Katie Holmes‘ FBI drama.

-This is a good explainer on why Fox was particularly brutal with the axe this season (TL;DR: NFL, a desire for multicam sitcoms, lack of show ownership, and the Disney deal.)

-Fox also announced they have no more plans for The X Files. Good on Gillian Anderson for hitting up Twitter and refusing to shoulder the blame for the show not going forward.

-This is a great interview with Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s showrunner about the roller coaster of emotions he experienced in the 13 hours between Fox cancelling it and NBC picking it up.

-I seemed to be the only person on Twitter this weekend who did not watch The Kissing Booth on Netflix, which meant I didn’t get to partake in the freakout when it was revealed the main stars are dating IRL.

-The first trailer for Spike Lee‘s highly-anticipated BlacKkKlansman has landed, starring John David Washington (Denzel’s son) and Adam Driver.
