Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Engagement Photos

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s engagement photos are pretty darn adorable. I especially like the above candid (though I’m sad that she broke her streak of wearing Canadian designers by opting for Ralph & Russo instead).

-Meanwhile, this is the grossest headline of the week: “Find out how Jerry O’Connell is grooming his daughters to be like Meghan Markle!”

Angelina Jolie says she’s homeschooling her kids “partially because they are from around the world and it’s very…I didn’t want them to have the same education I had when it came to Vietnam or Cambodia.”

Ansel Elgort says he kept the car from Baby Driver.

-Eva Longoria is having a baby — and doesn’t want to brush her teeth. I don’t think the two are connected.

This podcast offers a really good look at the ramifications of the Disney-Fox deal, especially for streaming.

-Gina Rodriguez gets the 73 question treatment from Vogue.

-I hate when verified celebrities use their Twitter feeds to try to get better customer service. But it’s especially funny that Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland‘s rant against CVS revealed that she doesn’t know the difference between a website and Google Maps.

DJ Khaled had quite an ordeal trying to jet-ski to a party where Drake and Diddy were at.

-Here’s a look at the shows I was most sad about saying goodbye to in 2017.

-One of the best things to come out of The Last Jedi is that it made the lovely Kelly Marie Tran a star. Every interview I see of hers makes me like her more and more, like this one in which she says she spent the shoot learning about all the different departments and even feathered a porg. Or this one in which she discusses struggling as an Asian-American actor in Hollywood: “I had resigned myself to thinking that one day I would be just the weird side character who always talks about being Asian and brings kimchi to the party.”

-Speaking of celebrities that impress me more and more with every interview, Jessica Chastain tells Time: “I have a problem with filmmakers who use violence against women, and especially rape, to make a woman stronger — where the woman needs to be victimized in order to become a butterfly. I find that pattern in cinema really disturbing.”

Dave Chappelle has a NSFW message for Trump voters in his new Netflix special. Oh, so are we all just forgetting about his post-election SNL monologue when he told us to give Trump a chance, then?

-The review embargo has lifted on Bright, Netflix’s new movie starring Will Smith, and the reviews are really, really bad. IndieWire calls it “so bad that Republicans will probably try to pass it into law over Christmas break.” Vulture calls it “an amusing genre-bend, but a mess in just about every other way.”  Vanity Fairs says “director David Ayer’s latest is just as loud and dumb as Suicide Squad.” L.A. Times says “This film is a chore.” The Hollywood Reporter calls it a “genre mashup awkward enough to make ‘Cowboys & Aliens’ look like a stroke of genius.”

-At least the director has a good sense of humor about it all.

Chloë Grace Moretz has been granted a permanent restraining order against her alleged stalker.

Venus Williams will not face any charges related to the June 2017 car accident that killed a 78-year-old man.

-A fifth woman has come forward with a claim against Danny Masterson: “I stayed quiet long enough.”

Mark Schwahn has finally been fired from E!’s The Royals amid those sexual misconduct allegations, which first surfaced more than a month ago.

-Oh crap. Toronto Police have confirmed an open Sex Crimes investigation into Crystal Castles’ Ethan Kath. His former bandmate Alice Glass accused him of a pattern of sexual-assault and harassment in late October, and another accuser claims he preyed on her when she was 16.

-A former Marco Polo producer just hit Harvey Weinstein and TWC with a $10 million sexual harassment suit.

-The #MeToo dress code is throwing Hollywood red carpet prep into a tizzy. “Every request we’ve received thus far has been for black…it’s been quite a shuffle for fashion agencies.”

Oprah singing “It’s a FRAUD!!!” made me laugh.

-Will Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga‘s A Star Is Born be an awards contender? After execs saw a cut of the movie, they moved Cooper’s directorial feature debut from May 18 to Oct. 5, setting it up for award season consideration.

-Mamma Mia, here we go again! Watch the first trailer for Mamma Mia 2.

Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny Discuss X Files’ Return

x-files-tv-guide

-I can’t stop looking at Gillian Anderson‘s wig and David Duchovny’s eyes on the cover of TV Guide. It’s going to distract me during the whole upcoming season, isn’t it? In the interview, they talk about William, their characters’ complicated relationship, and what comes next.

-Congrats to Mindy Kaling, who welcomed her first child, a baby girl she called Katherine. I love the normal name, and I especially love that she feels no need to tell us who the baby’s father is.

Janet Jackson is  back together with Jermaine Dupri? It’s a Christmas miracle!

Vanessa Hudgens isn’t engaged, she just wanted to show off her new haircut and didn’t realize the world would focus on the giant rock on her finger.

-The floodgates have opened when it comes to bad TJ Miller stories. A transgender movie critic revealed an angry email from him, a woman told a story about him acting so shady a bartender wouldn’t let her have the drink he was hovering around, and adult film star Dana DeArmond has accused Miller and Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts of sexual harassment on the set of Comedy Central’s Mash Up.

-Meanwhile, Miller’s The Gorburger Show has been canceled by Comedy Central (though a network rep claims that the decision predated the allegations, with one source noting it happened as far back as July).

-Last week, the Today Show beat Good Morning America for the third week in a row — which lines up directly with how long Matt Lauer has been gone from the show. Meanwhile, CBS This Morning has held steady in the ratings since Charlie Rose‘s departure.  It’s almost as if these garbage men weren’t worth the millions they were being paid.

-Just because the world can’t stop blaming women for men’s predatory behaviour, Meryl Streep is being targeted by street artists with “She knew” posters. Someone wake me up when they use Matt Damon’s image instead.

Christian Bale says Hollywood would be better if “white dudes” weren’t in charge of anything. Well, at the very least there would probably be less actors who feel free to aggressively yell at hapless crew members in a long, expletive-laden rant for daring to walk in their eyeline. Or actors who are arrested for assaulting their mother and sister.  Sit down, sir.

Mark Ruffalo just bought the world a coffee. I love him.

-I really liked this Twitter thread, which pushes back on The Last Jedi’s backlash.

Anna Kendrick remembers having to style herself for the Toronto premiere of Up In The Air. “I was not famous so no one wanted to lend me shoes to wear, but I was broke so I couldn’t buy the shoes. I got talked into spending the money I really didn’t have on a pair of Louboutins. I never wear them but I will never get rid of them because I’m like ‘I spent my rent money on you!'”

-The former Pentagon official profiled in the NYT’s insane article about the secret branch of gov’t investigating UFOs is now working for Blink 182’s Tom Delonge. What is 2017??

-Here’s the trailer for BBC One and Hulu’s “pre-apocalypse” series, Hard Sun. It’s from the creator of Luthor and stars Jim Sturgess and Agyness Deyn, so I’m all the way in.

The Ocean’s 8 Trailer Is Everything!

-It’s here! The Ocean’s 8 trailer starring Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter and Rihanna.  God, I love so much about this! Richard Armitage is clearly some sort of love interest but doesn’t even get a line in the trailer. It’s the perfect use of Hathaway. The heist they’re planning is at the freakin’ MET Ball!

-Yikes. Selena Gomez‘s mother was hospitalized after reportedly having a “heated conversation” with her daughter about Justin Bieber. That’s going to make for an awkward holiday season..

Issa Rae is working on not one, but two shows and they both sound amazing.

-Silicon Valley actor T.J. Miller has been accused of brutal sexual assault. The accuser, speaking publicly for the first time, says it happened in college. The accusations were addressed by a student court at George Washington University at the time and Miller has told friends over the years that he was wrongfully accused. In the Daily Beast’s deeply researched report, five GW students at the time corroborated details of her story.

Miller has denied the allegations, saying “Sadly she is now using the current climate to bandwagon and launch these false accusations again.”

-Not surprisingly, everyone today is remembering that time Miller hosted the Crunchies and repeatedly called Gabi Holzwarth a bitch. And more stories about him being a not-great guy are coming forward.  He was already cancelled by many people because of a series of unfortunate interviews earlier this summer.

-I love that #damonsplaining is becoming a thing. Can we make it trend??

-I’m also enormously satisfied that Damon is getting called out as being “completely forgettable” in the reviews for his new movie.

-How in the world is Chris Brown still landing leading movie roles in 2017? Followup question: how did his duet with R Kelly top the charts in 2017?

-Wait, Terry Crews illustrated the cover of Ad Age’s Creativity 50 issue? Is there anything this man can’t do?!? (Besides getting white Hollywood to support him?)

-The Pitch Perfect reviews are in and they…aren’t good. THR calls it “soulless.”  At least EW thinks it’s charming, so there’s that!

Jimmy Fallon, Anna Kendrick, Darlene Love & The Roots sang “Christmas” with kids instruments.

Armie Hammer on quitting Twitter. “It’s a toxic environment. No one goes on the internet to say anything nice.” Ok.

-Wait, there’s a Sicario 2Josh Brolin, Benicio Del Toro, and Matthew Modine star in the new trailer.
