Gwyneth Paltrow Is Back On the Avengers Set

-Apparently there was some debate about whether or not Gwyneth Paltrow would be in the next Avengers movie but here she is on set so I guess she’s still in. I’m glad; I like Pepper Potts.

Mel B threw water on Simon Cowell and walked off the America’s Got Talent set after he made quip about her marriage.

Taylor Swift is here to save the world. She announced a new album, coming out on Nov 10, and her first single drops tomorrow. This is brilliant (if accidental?) timing on her part; she disappeared long enough for us to miss her, and then returns to the music scene on the heels of her triumphant court appearance.

-The Clooneys made a $1 million donation to fight hate groups, with George saying “Amal & I wanted to add our voice (and financial assistance) to the ongoing fight for equality.” Putting that tequila bank to good use!

-I love Variety’s annual roundup of TV salaries, mostly because it’s always so shocking. Also, pay Donald Glover more, Hollywood!

-I don’t understand how a guy who was paid a million dollars per episode for his sitcom for YEARS feels like he can’t retire.

Chris Hemsworth uses his Photoshop skills for good, not evil.

-Did Scarlett Johansson get a giant back tattoo (or, as I like to call it, pull a Ben Affleck)?

Sarah Paulson freaks out about Trump in the first American Horror Story: Cult trailer. Same, girl.

-Oh god, no! Deadline reports that Warner Bros. is setting the course for a Joker origin story from The Hangover’s Todd Phillips. Whyyyyy????

Tig Notaro did a pretty blunt interview about Louis C.K., urging him to finally address rumours of sexual harassment, and saying that despite his executive-producer credit on her Amazon show One Mississippi, he has “never been involved” and has “nothing to do with the show.”

Amy Schumer asked Netflix for more money after seeing headlines about Chris Rock‘s and Dave Chappelle’s deals. I’m not always her biggest fan, but good for her. She is without a doubt the most famous female comedian working right now, so she should be playing in the big leagues.

Kevin Hart gives so little f’s about his ex-wife’s cheating allegations that he filmed himself laughing it off on Instagram. As Lainey pointed it out, his current wife is creating more drama than the ex, which is odd.

-Buzzfeed interviewed a woman who says she had a sexual relationship with R. Kelly when she was 15 and then received payouts to keep quiet.

-Here’s another great great article on how GoT is ruining the Sansa/Arya dynamic. I’m glad I’m not the only one pissed at this.

-At least the actresses do really great Ned Stark impressions.

-This is an excellent, excellent thread on why Hollywood continues to whitewash Asian roles.

Angelina Jolie took her kids to Target on Saturday to get them hot dogs. But Target doesn’t do hot dogs. Good try at being a norm, tho!

Ian Somerhalder lied to us about his month of silence, and now we’re all suffering.

Adam Scott’s stepson might be the spawn of the devil in the Little Evil trailer. Evangeline Lilly and Donald Faison also star. Is it supposed to be funny? It looks funny! “What good thing has ever happened in a corn field?!”

Joss Whedon Put on Blast By Ex-Wife: ‘He Is Not Who He Pretends to Be’

-Ooh boy. Joss Whedon must have had a rough weekend after his wife of 16 years wrote an essay for The Wrap accusing him of multiple on-set affairs. In the scathing article, ex-wife Kai Cole called him a “hypocrite preaching feminist ideals.” Personally, though I still love and adore a lot of his work (Buffy, Angel and Dr Horrible will always hold a special place in my heart), the bloom fell off the Whedon rose when Charisma Carpenter talked about being fired from Angel when he found out she got pregnant. And yes, you can be a cheater and still be a feminist. But I think the reason this story is chafing so many of his female fans today is not because he is accused of infidelity as much as that he’s accused of using white male privilege/power to justify it. According to his wife, he said of his actions: “In many ways I was the HEIGHT of normal, in this culture. We’re taught to be providers and companions and at the same time, to conquer and acquire — specifically sexually — and I was pulling off both!” Like being a serial cheater is somehow fulfilling a masculine destiny? Yuck.

-The day the essay dropped, the biggest Whedon fansite shut down after 15 years.

Sarah Jessica Parker‘s breathless reaction to the eclipse deserves an Emmy.

-So it turns out Steven Soderbergh‘s Logan Lucky didn’t change the film business overnight. His new movie, which sidestepped the traditional studio marketing machine, opened at a disappointing $8.1 million.

-Bless the lead signer of The Architects, who stopped his show when he saw a woman being groped.

-Out of all the shows I expected Netflix to renew, the critically panned Friends from College wasn’t one of them.  I tried watching it because the cast is lit but it’s a pretty grim slog.

George and Amal Clooney had a date night and I really dig her dress while simultaneously recognizing it would make me look like a moldy potato.

Jay-Z is trying to make us believe that infamous elevator fight marked his “one disagreement ever” with Solange. That’s cute.

-Man, last night’s Game of Thrones was a bit of a mess. Why aren’t they killing major characters off? What are they doing to the Stark sisters?!

-This is an interesting piece about how celebrities should react in the aftermath of Neo-Nazi protests. I have to say, I’ve lost some respect for some of the celebs I follow who are usually very vocal yet have remained silent on this.

Matt Damon is bloody and Julianne Moore is crushing pills in the new trailer for George Clooney’s Suburbicon.

Tina Fey’s Sheetcaking Skit Stirs Controversy

Tina Fey appeared on the Weekend Update special last night and urged people to ignore the neo-Nazis, stay safe inside and eat some sheetcake. The reactions to it were swift and judge-y. Personally I didn’t love it either, but then again I tend to sideeye some of her race-based comedy bits to begin with. I usually LOVE Fey (I’ve re-read Bossypants so many times I can quote parts of it), but there has definitely been things she’s done on Kimmy Schmidt or Whisky Tango Foxtrot that aren’t great. So I understand why people are arguing that the suggestion from a white woman to ignore neo-nazis is kind of what got us into this mess in the first place. On the other hand, a lot of people think she was gently winking and mocking her own message (with the sheetcake being a spin on “let them eat cake”). It’s entirely possible, but maybe now is not the week for subtle, easily misinterpreted comedy?

Taylor Swift just went dark on social media, leading to speculation that she’s about to make a big announcement (a new album, maybe?). She wiped all profile pics from her Twitter, Tumblr, and Instagram accounts, and she’s no longer following anyone on Twitter.

-I’ve listened to Justin Bieber’s new song four times today. I’m not proud.

-I also really like Miley Cyrus’ new song. It’s like my music tastes are Benjamin Buttoning.

-Finally, Patty Jenkins is closing a deal to direct Wonder Woman 2. She reportedly held out for more money, and this deal could make her the highest paid female director in Hollywood.

-Speaking of ladies making bank, Emma Stone is 2017’s highest-paid actress, according to Forbes. Next in line  are Jennifer Aniston, who pulled in $25.5 million, and Jennifer Lawrence, who earned $24 million.

-Luke Cage explains Danny Rand’s white privilege to him in this scene in The Defenders and it’s amazing. Here’s the backstory.

-Meanwhile, the reviews of The Defenders are mixed at best. THR likes it, but Vulture calls it “a grim slog” and the NYT says it’s “less than the sum of its superheroes.”

James Corden started his show with an emotional monologue about the Barcelona attack.

-Your internet boyfriend Idris Elba is on crutches. Who wants to volunteer to play nurse? Ok fine, I’ll do it!

-I gave up on Transparent a while ago but somehow came across this clip today of Judith Light singing “Hand In My Pocket” and ended up bawling at my desk. So, that happened.

Emilia Clarke shared a cute Instagram video of Kit Harington and it almost made it seem like he has a personality!

Kal Penn putting Trump on blast is the best use of Twitter this week.

Blake Lively‘s photoshop skills are on point.

Cobie Smulders, Justin Long and John Cho star in the Literally, Right Before Aaron trailer.
