Wonder Woman Earns Early Raves

Wonder Woman on the cover of EW

-Wonder Woman, which got its own EW cover this week, is getting good early reviews! (I already bought 10 tickets for my crew so I was seeing it either way, but this is a relief.)

-Parent of twins Julia Roberts says George and Amal Clooney “don’t need advice from me or anybody else” — and then she proceeded to give some.

Vicky Cornell, the wife of Chris Cornell, issued a statement today implying his suicide may have been the result of taking too much anxiety medication.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not even engaged yet, but they already have permission to wed at Westminster Abbey. Being a royal is weird, yo.

Amy Schumer has split from Ben Hanisch and says she prefers to date “nice guys,” so I’m guessing it wasn’t exactly amicable.

Steve Harvey‘s ex-wife is suing him for $60 million for child endangerment, torture, conspiracy against rights, intentional infliction of emotional distress, breach of contract, and “soul murder,” which is defined in the lawsuit as “a combination of torture, deprivation, and brainwashing.”

Seth Rogen‘s tweet about Justin Timberlake made me laugh (and yeah, his wife really does look like Jessica Biel).

-This is terrifying: Amber Rose slept while intruder broke into her home and stayed for hours.

Katy Perry pranked unsuspecting visitors to New York’s Whitney Museum. If this happened to me, she would catch these hands.

-The CW revealed their new lineup, and they’re moving Riverdale to Wednesday, Arrow to Thursday (against This is Us — ouch!), and Jane the Virgin to Friday. Also, Black Lightning won’t be part of the shared universe like their other DC shows (because heaven forbid CW’s first black superhero show gets to be part of the crossovers.)

-Also, the CW debuted trailers for their new shows. Black Lightning looks  great, Life Sentence could be cute, and Dynasty looks terrible.

-I don’t know much about One Direction except that their fandom is super intense and will spend lots of money on them.  So why did Liam Payne think it would be a good idea to diss his former band on his first single?

-Orange Is The New Black fans, here’s a skit where Taystee and Poussey meet in Tucker’s bar from Black Mirror’s “San Junipero” episode.

-This is a great piece on how Master Of None captures the loneliness of being constantly connected. The scene that stuck out to me in the new season was when he and his buddy were having the dinner at the most famous restaurant in Italy and they both stopped mid-meal to text.

-Also, chef Massimo Bottura, who was featured in Netflix’s Chef’s Table, was the one who pitched Aziz Ansari on shooting in Michelin-starred Osteria Francescana, not the other way around.

Olivia Wilde was at Times Square yesterday when all hell broke loose.

-P*ssy Posse founder Leonardo DiCaprio has broken up with yet another model.

-The trailer for CBS’ Star Trek show is so wonderfully diverse and female-powered that I might actually watch it.

-Speaking of CBS shows, Mom has made the almost-unheard-of-in-Hollywood decision to donate the $250,000 budget earmarked for Emmy campaigning to Planned Parenthood. I don’t watch it, but this makes me want them to win the Emmy.

-I kind of love this Buzzfeed article about a writer who found her voice by writing Justin Timberlake fanfic. Who knew that was even a thing?

-CBC has unveiled the release date and a trailer for Alias Grace. So much Atwood on our TVs! I love it!

Jimmy Fallon Tries to Redeem Himself, Fails Miserably

-NYT did a profile on Jimmy Fallon and he came off … not great. I don’t remember another attempt at damage control that made things this much worse. I gave up after the part where he talked about people being upset by his Trump interview and how “it hurt my feelings that they didn’t like it.”

-Twitter did not take kindly to the Fallon profile, either. (It also reminded me of that passage in BossyPants where Amy Poehler destroyed him.)

-Tragic: Rosario Dawson found her cousin dead in the actress’ Los Angeles home last week. No cause of death has been released.

Taylor Swift is reportedly dating a British actor named Joe Alwyn. She’s been laying low for the past few months — I wonder if she’ll keep it on the DL or make it Instagram official?

Katharine McPhee is denying rumours that she’s dating 67-year-old David Foster. Wait, what??

-This video of Kendall Jenner falling off a bike has 4 million views.  Well done, Internet!

Will Smith clashed with Pedro Almodóvar over the Netflix controversy at Cannes, and I’m on Will’s side on this one. Streaming services like Netflix make diverse, worldly content easily accessible to everyone no matter where they live.

Johnny Depp is dating again. Who? Why? How?

James Corden is returning to host the Grammys in 2018. So basically it’s be another year of late night white dudes hosting all the award shows? Great.

-Pitch’s EP says he would like to shoot a goodbye episode. How about a goodbye three seasons?

-It was CBS’s turn at the upfronts today, where they got pissy that This Is Us has been crowned the biggest new show (it wins in the demo, but Bull actually has more total viewers), and defended the fact that all of their new fall shows have male leads. When pushed by reporters, Les Moonves said “I think we’re fine in terms of the amount of women who are behind the camera and in front of the camera.” See everyone? They’re FINE!

-CBS also announced that Star Trek Discovery takes place “10 years before Kirk, Spock, the Enterprise” and released a new photo and trailer.

-Warner Brothers insists the Justice League movie is totally fine so just ignore all those rumours that say otherwise, guys.

-In other DCU news, Sam Raimi reportedly passed on directing The Flash movie, which Billy Crudup just exited.

-Eff ya! Jordan Peele‘s next project is a Jim Crow-era HBO horror series.

Jeff Goldblum nearly became the voice of Apple’s Siri? Now that’s all I want.

-The article about The Handmaid’s Tale and how women (white women in particular) are complicit in systems of oppression is well worth a read.

-Hamilton star Daveed Diggs just got cast as the lead in a Snowpiercer TV show and I am here for it.

Stephen Amell is going to be on the Red Nose Day edition of American Ninja Warrior next week, and this preview shows him nailing the course. All that salmon laddering came in handy.

Solange Knowles penned an emotional letter addressed to her teenage self about losing her friend in a drive-by shooting and becoming a mother at 17.

Jimmy Kimmel and Justin Theroux are bringing back your favorite 70s, ’80s, and ’90s sitcoms.

Brad Pitt returned to Stephen Colbert‘s show to ponder life’s greatest mysteries.

-Here’s the latest trailer for Brad’s War Machine.

Kirsten Dunst and Sofia Coppola Talk Sexism in Hollywood

kirsten-dunst-sofia-variety-cover

-Look, I’m always here for females in Hollywood calling out the industry’s sexiest BS. But this cover story with Kirsten Dunst and Sofia Coppola is a little…odd. Like, when Dunst complains that she got “paid a lot of money for the Spider-Man movies but definitely the men were getting paid more”? Um, did she expect Tobey Maguire-level pay on that one?

-There’s a Justice League rumor that extensive reshoots have completely “remade” the movie, which doesn’t bode well.

-This is why British awards shows are so much better than ours. Look at the loser’s face at the 0:47 mark. Priceless!

Blake Lively is going to play a single-mom-turned-cage-fighter in a new movie directed by the guy who did The Notebook. I don’t understand how a lot of those words work in the same sentence.

Dave Chappelle is now trying to take back what he said on SNL about how we should all give Donald Trump. “I f—ed up. Sorry.”

Mo’Nique claims she was “whiteballed” by Lee Daniels, Tyler Perry, and Oprah. Is that a thing?

-A spinoff of The Young Pope is coming to HBO? Why? Has anyone even mentioned that show after it premiered?

-Fox’s trailer of Ghosted with Adam Scott and Craig Robinson made me laugh.

-Here are the new ABC fall trailers. The Gospel of Kevin looks cute, but that might be my Jason Ritter blinders talking. It’s also great to see Jenna Fischer back on the small screen.

-ABC also confirmed that Katy Perry will be a judge on their revival of American Idol, and that Roseanne Barr, John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, Laurie Metcalf and Sarah Chalke are all coming back for the Roseanne reboot (despite a very tepid reaction from the upfronts crowd). They also announced that Marvel’s Inhumans will air on Friday nights with Agents of Shield which doesn’t sound good — although to be fair, the Friday “death slot” isn’t really a thing anymore. ABC’s Tuesdays-at-10 time period seems more of a death sentence.

-Speaking of TV, here’s a look at the current season in 5 really depressing charts. EVERY network show has dropped in the ratings except for The Bachelor, of all things.

Jimmy Kimmel is going to host the Oscars again next year. Sigh.

Supergirl’s next episode is call “Nevertheless, She Persisted”? Now I want to catch up on that show…

Emma Stone and Steve Carell square off in the first trailer for the Billie Jean King movie Battle Of The Sexes.
