Sandra Bullock Is People’s Most Beautiful

sandra-bullock-people-most-beautiful

-No complaints here about People magazine selecting Sandra Bullock to be this year’s Most Beautiful person. I can’t believe she’s 50!

Blake Lively wore six outfits in eight hours, and I hated every single one of them.

-It’s time for our daily moment of appreciation for Amy Schumer. First she face-plants in front of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian on a red carpet in a moment of pure perfection, and then she and Josh Charles star in a spot-on and edgy spoof of Friday Night Lights. Even Connie Britton approves. “Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Don’t Rape!”

Andrew Garfield was reportedly “in a dark place” before his Emma Stone split. Did he revisit the reviews of The Amazing Spider-Man 2?

Ben Affleck addressed the backlash over his request to hide his slave-owning ancestor with the most politian-y post ever.

Aziz Ansari and the creator of Parks and Rec are reuniting for a new Netflix series.

-Speaking of Netflix, they’ve ordered  a second season Daredevil. I’m only on episode 5 but I don’t love it. I’m not sure if it’s the ultra violence or just superhero TV fatigue.

-Speaking of not connecting with a TV show everyone loves, this is a great piece on admiring but not fully embracing The Americans. I feel the same way about Hannibal and Mad Men, two shows I admire for their technical brilliance, but always find myself thinking about things like the composition of shots instead of feeling swept away by the story/characters. Conversely, “lesser” shows on the CW tend to take up an embarrassing amount of brain space for days.

-Tom Cruise was “scared shitless” when hanging off an airplane for the new Mission Impossible movie. Wait, robots feel fear?

Rita Wilson, Mamie Gummer and others shot a satirical video about how men in Hollywood should “have it all.”

-This is why sometimes it’s best *not* to read celebrity interviews. Jason Dohring boasts about not eating candy in years.

-What it’s like when your mom marries your celeb crush, according to Rumer Willis.

Taylor Schilling and Adam Scott share uncomfortable moments with Jason Schwartzman in the trailer for The Overnight.

Carey Mulligan Covers Vogue

carey-mulligan-vogue

Carey Mulligan is the cover subject of May’s Vogue, in which she gives a master class on how to be totally charming in an interview while giving away absolutely nothing about her private life. I heart her.

-Call off the search! The strange saga of “Where did Johnny Depp disappear to?” has finally ended. After reports that he failed to show up for his Pirates of the Caribbean shoot, he was spotted on a PR-orchestrated photo opp arriving in Australia with his wife.

-This Full House revival sounds kind of dark. DJ is a pregnant widow? (At least Steve isn’t the deceased. Comeback opp?!)

-Oh look, teenagers are still dumb.

-I love this roundup of the ridiculous way the media covers Kristen Stewart and her girlfriend. The word “gal pal” is getting a vigorous workout.

Courteney Cox channeled Monica’s competitive streak during Friends trivia on Ellen.

Amy Schumer used her last appearance on David Letterman‘s show to fluster him with her “vagina.”

-Love is dead. Miley Cyrus and Patrick Schwarzenegger have split.

-I can’t get enough of all the Joss Whedon interviews floating around this week. (This interview is long, but one of my favourites of his ever.) He says Edgar Wright’s Ant Man was “the best script Marvel ever had,” and that he’s holding out hope for Dr. Horrible 2.

Jared Leto is currently haunting my city’s streets and terrifying children.

-I never did them in my 20s, but the deeper I get into my 30s the more  I seem to be doing shots. (Regressing, I know). In any case, I really can’t judge Gwyneth Paltrow for pre-gaming her high school reunion with Fireball.

John Travolta is defending his “church” again.

Madonna is denying those pesky rumours that she was texting during an off-Broadway performance of Hamilton.

Mitch Pileggi is going to reprise his role as Walter Skinner in the X-Files revival. It’s all coming together, people!

-I never thought I’d see the day that Ewan McGregor signed on to play a talking candlestick

-You best be leaving Galaxy Quest alone, Hollywood!

-This is a great chat with Tatiana Maslany, in which she explains how she played a clone playing a clone on the Orphan Black season premiere. (Also, I love that she’s still taking acting classes.)

-The new Fantastic Four trailer heavies up on Michael B Jordan and my interest is *finally* piqued.

-Huh. The new Tomorrowland trailer makes the movie look way more action-packed than I first thought.

Batman vs Superman Trailer Leaks, Internet Has No Chill

batman-vs-superman

-There’s so much nerd rage over the leaked Batman vs Superman trailer. You can watch it here until it gets pulled. It’s so dark — like, literally dark. I squinted my way through that whole thing.

-Speaking of trailer excitement, Matthew McConaughey’s “reaction” to the Star Wars teaser is blowing up the internet. (It says something about McConaughey that for a second I actually wondered if it was real….)

-In other blockbuster news, this article about why Michelle MacLaren dropped out of directing the Wonder Woman movie is disturbing. What studio opts for more a more “character-driven story” over epic action? That studio does not exist. Were they worried that a woman couldn’t pull off set pieces and should stick to scenes with character talking about their feelings?

-Just when you thought it was over: WikiLeaks has published 173,000 leaked emails from the Sony hack. Highlights include Cameron Crowe cracking a joke about Bruce Jenner’s transition and calling Bradley Cooper an “odd bird,” and David O. Russell apparently got so rough with Amy Adams that Christian Bale had to come to her defense.

John Krasinski doing the “Bye Bye Bye” move on Lip Sync Battle made my week.

Michael Buble is trying to walk back that Instagram photo.

-This is the Kardashian profile we deserve: “She is the regal JFK to her mother’s liquor-running Joe Kennedy.”

-Guys, we almost lived in a world where Josh Hartnett played Batman. Mull that over for a sec.

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones confirmed that they’re back together.

-Good news: Sarah Jessica Parker is coming back to HBO. Better news: it’s not for another SATC movie.

Guillermo del Toro confirms Pacific Rim 2 is coming April 2017. Bring on more Idris!

-Sundance smash Dope has a new trailer.
