–Zendaya covers the October issue of British Vogue, styled by Law Roach. Between Dune and Spider-Man promotion, she’s everywhere right now and I don’t hate it.

–In GQ, Regé-Jean Page talks about what’s next for his career, breaks down his favourite pieces from his own wardrobe, and says he’s moved on from the show that made him famous. “The universe has expanded. So I’m no longer in the Bridgerton WhatsApp group.”

-Goddamit. Michael K. Williams, who starred in everything from The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, Community and Lovecraft Country was found dead on Monday afternoon inside of his Brooklyn residence.

–Angelina Jolie spoke to The Guardian mostly about her activism, but the article is getting more attention for the gross way the writer opens it, and her brief mention of being “hurt” when then-husband Brad Pitt worked with Harvey Weinstein despite knowing the producer had tried to assault her.

-The publicists for Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac‘s new HBO show must have popped champagne when they realized that this slo-mo gif of him kissing her arm on the red carpet went viral. (They’re actors and they’re both very good at acting and promotion, but damn that response underlines just how starved we are for a pair that has good onscreen chemistry.)

-Chastain posted a cheeky response to the hubhub. He later held her purse on a different red carpet because again, they’re very good at this.

-Speaking of things that caused the internet to melt down this long weekend, Olivia Munn was papped and appears to be pregnant, which has led to lots of speculation about the timeline of her and John Mulaney‘s relationship. A tiktok has resurfaced that a comedian posted back in May about the pair expecting, right after that news of his split from his wife came out.

-It feels like a good time to revisit this piece about fans’ connection to Mulaney, and the parasocial cloud that now seems to surround him.

-Emily in Paris star Lily Collins got married in Colorado over the weekend, and People has the photos.

-Expect a lot less filler episodes in the new season of Survivor. The competition will only be 26 days long instead of the usual 39 days due to a two-week Covid quarantine for the cast and crew, but host Jeff Probst says the change could be permanent.

–Michaela Coel says she turned down Netflix’s $1 million deal due to due to a “lack of transparency,” “exploitation” and their refusal to let her own the copyright for I May Destroy You.

-Meanwhile, Coel looks incredible on the cover of Elle UK.

–Patrick Wilson looks like Momoa-lite on the set of Aquaman 2. I kept hearing some not-great things about Momoa during his summer filming here, so maybe Wilson can take over?

-Ok fine, Momoa’s new Aquaman suit has won me back.

-Marvel’s Shang Chi (which I really dug) crushed box office expectations, which might convince Disney to keep The Eternals in theatres only.

–A new fan site for The Matrix: Resurrections generates a unique teaser video featuring footage and narration from the sequel. Right now, if you click on the blue pill you get Neil Patrick Harris’ character saying, “you’ve lost your capacity to discern reality from fiction,” but if you choose the red pill and enter the matrix, you hear Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s voice telling you the current time and saying that “couldn’t be further from the truth.” Both options give you different glimpses of footage.

-The Carrie Diaries’ Anna Sophia Robb announced on Instagram that she’s engaged, and this pic is so much better than the ultra-staged ones we usually get.

–Friends of Jean-Michel Basquiat are not happy with Beyoncé and Jay-Z for their use of a painting by the late American artist their Tiffany & Co ad.

–Selena Gomez is on a group chat with her Only Murders costars Steve Martin and Martin Short — but it’s over email.

-Want to attend the Met Gala? For the first time ever, it will be live-streamed by Vogue on Sept 13. The stream will be hosted by hosted by Keke Palmer and Ilana Glazer.

-The reviews are glowing for Apple TV+’s filmed performance of the musical Come From Away.

–Janet Jackson promises to tell her own story in the teaser for Janet, a two-night documentary coming to Lifetime.

–Jake Gyllenhaal plays a 911 operator who receives distressing call in trailer for The Guilty. I’m seeing this next week at TIFF and I don’t know if my blood pressure can handle it.

-In her new Elle cover story, Selena Gomez opens up about mental illness, lupus, and letting go of social media. I’m very intrigued by her new Hulu show Only Murders in the Building, in which she stars alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short. The reviews are good.

-Also, Hailey Baldwin (who is married to Gomez’s ex Justin Bieber) liked a post about the cover. I appreciate that she knew that would make headlines.

–Kanye West has filed to legally change his full name to Ye.

–Megan Thee Stallion has reportedly filed legal documents  alleging that her label is blocking the release of new music from her, particularly a remix of BTS‘ global hit “Butter.”

-No surprise here: Disney is hoping to resolve its issues with Scarlett Johansson in private. Disney’s lawyers filed a motion to put the dispute over Black Widow’s profits in private arbitration rather than have a public trial.

-Amid all the hand-wringing about the quality of season 2 of Ted Lasso, this is the most valid complaint I’ve seen: Apple’s weekly rollout is hurting it. (Also, here’s yet another critic alluding to the fact that the season is about to kick into a higher gear…)

-The world is morning Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, who passed away at 80.

-Scheduling conflicts may keep Mayim Bialik from hosting Jeopardy full-time, but she has expressed an interest in the position if she is able to make it work. Of course she has.

-I’m surprised that it’s taken this long for some of her questionable momfluencer advice to surface again.

-I’m very glad to see Brandon Routh leading a new TV show after how it sounds like he was treated on Legends of Tomorrow, and a Netflix series about Magic: The Gathering sounds perfect for him.

-In her second day of testimony, the woman accused R. Kelly of forcing her to have sex with his other girlfriends and another male, and testified that he made her lie to Gayle King.

–Jessica Chastain says she spent 4 to 7 hours a day in the makeup chair for The Eyes of Tammy Faye. “I think for sure I’ve done some permanent damage to my skin on this.”

-If Harry Styles launches a nail polish line I will buy every damn shade.

-Buffy alum Nicholas Brendon is in the new again. He was arrested last week and charged with felony prescription fraud.

-This is a great thread of reviews from Asian critics of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

-Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which was originally supposed to be released in Oct 2020, will likely be delayed again.

–Dan Stevens plays a robot in the trailer for the German sci-fi romcom I’m Your Man. Ohhhh, this might be one of my TIFF picks.

-Here’s the very good trailer for Yellowjackets, a new Showtime drama series about a team of talented high school girls soccer players who become the survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness, starring Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis and Melanie Lynskey.

–Margaret Qualley is a single mother fighting for survival in the trailer for Netflix’s Maid. (Her real-life mom Andie MacDowell plays her on-screen mom in the series.)

-Netflix just announced a huge new slate of movies dropping over the next few months. (I’m especially excited for Cowboy Bepop based on the magnificent first photos.)

–Melissa McCarthy and Chris O’Dowd play a couple dealing with the loss of a baby who meet ex-shrink Kevin Kline in trailer for The Starling, on Netflix September 24.

-The Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer leaked over the weekend, but it officially debuted at CinemaCon. I’m not as interested in a story about the multi-verse (as someone who always got annoyed by it when the CW superhero shows messed around with alt versions of characters) and I’d prefer if Peter Parker was still fighting a neighborhood badguy like Michael Keaton in Homecoming, but Tom Holland and Zendaya own me, so it’s all good.

–Jennifer Aniston covers the new issue of Instyle and talks about Jennifer Lopez’s posing talent on red carpets (“I want to know what gives her the look like she’s about to be seething. It’s amazing”), says the Friends cast promised each other to stay in touch after the reunion (“I had a couple of people over [that] Sunday, just with the kids and stuff. Schwimmer stopped by, so I got to meet his amazing little girl. But we really did make a commitment to each other. We were like, “That’s the last time we wait that long to see each other”), and says she cut people out of her life over their views on vaccines (“It’s a real shame. I’ve just lost a few people in my weekly routine who have refused or did not disclose [whether or not they had been vaccinated], and it was unfortunate. I feel it’s your moral and professional obligation to inform, since we’re not all podded up and being tested every single day. It’s tricky because everyone is entitled to their own opinion — but a lot of opinions don’t feel based in anything except fear or propaganda”).

–Chris Meloni got his first Men’s Health cover at 60. (That one photo of him doing the splits should automatically get him into the Zaddy Hall of Fame.) In the interview, he opens up about why he suddenly left Law & Order: SVU at the end of season 12: “My thought was: Instead of 22 episodes, bring me back for nine episodes, or bring me back for 18 episodes. They literally came to me on a Thursday night and said, ‘This is the deal. We want the answer by tomorrow. It’s our way or no way.’ [I said] ‘I don’t want to f–k around with you guys. This is what I want. If you can’t do it, that’s fine. Let’s figure out my exit.'”

–Rihanna is officially a billionaire, according to Forbes. She is worth $1.7 billion — most from her inclusive Fenty Beauty brand.

–Meghan Markle released a video describing her 40 x 40 initiative to Melissa McCarthy over Zoom. She’s celebrating her 40th birthday by asking activists, athletes and celebrities from around the world to spend 40 minutes mentoring women re-entering the workforce.

–Jay-Z and Will Smith are among a list of investors involved in a startup that helps renters build credit until they can buy a home. This feels so much better than rich dudes going to space.

-With Bob Odenkirk being in the news lately for health reason, this clip of him talking about the ridiculously long hours on Better Call Saul resurfaced.

-I love that Chris Evans is playing along with Lizzo’s pregnancy post.

-One of the women Princess Eugenie’s husband Jack Brooksbank was photographed with apologized for those controversial, “misinterpreted” pictures. “I usually never go topless,” Erica Pelosini told The Daily Mail, “but my bikini got wet and I decided to take it off. I know it does not look right for Jack and his family. I felt very bad for them when I saw the images of him surrounded by three women because his wife was not there.” She added, “Jack is a very dear friend of mine and I have known him for a number of years. He’s also good friends with the other two women. It’s very upsetting for me that people could be thinking the wrong things.” Yeah, who among us hasn’t frolicked topless with our platonic male married friends?

–Seth Rogen would like everyone to know he has not been kidnapped, just in case that was a worry of yours.

-Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is said to be very unhappy with the way Disney is handling the Scarlett Johansson lawsuit. Pissing him off seems like a very bad idea.

-After Dax Shepard‘s podcast interview with Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher sparked debate over their kids bathing habits, Shepard and Kristen Bell discussed their lax policy for their own kids. “I’m a big fan of waiting for the stink. Once you catch a whiff, that’s biology’s way of letting you know you need to clean it up.” What??

–James Gunn just can’t help himself.

–Selena Gomez responded to the “tasteless” kidney transplant reference in The Good Fight. Wait, did no one watch the actual episode?

-Heels is getting good reviews. I didn’t think I’d be interested in a wrestling show (or watching anything involving Stephen Amell again) but the Friday Night Lights vibe from the trailer apparently holds strong throughout the first four eps screened for critics. Plus, the showrunner is Kurt’s dad from Glee!

–Soleil Moon Frye says that that three of her four children have contracted Covid.

–Hilarie Burton defended her former OTH co-star, Chad Michael Murray, when a fan tweeted that he was the reason she left the show. “I’m not sure where your info is coming from, but Chad had nothing to do with my leaving. We were both treated badly, and he defended me. I so appreciate your support, but I just wanted to clarify that Chad was my teammate. My bosses were the s–ts.”

-Transphobes are trying to co-opt Terry Pratchett, which is ridiculous.

-This is a good piece on how DaBaby’s vile remarks about gay sex and AIDS mixed with the furor over Lil Nas X’s “Industry Baby” have made for the eye of a perfect shitstorm.

–Justin Bieber apologized for plugging Morgan Wallen‘s album — saying he didn’t know about Morgan’s n-word scandal.

-Here’s the first trailer for Netflix’s Kate, in which Mary Elizabeth Winstead becoming a bonafide action hero as a ruthless assassin on a hunt for revenge in Tokyo. Between this, The Old Guard and Gunpowder Milkshake, I’m here for Netflix pumping out female-led action flicks (though the optics of Winstead’s character fighting only Japanese antagonists in this climate is…not great).
